Salary Cap 2024/ Free Agency Budget
Isaiah Stewart $15,000,000
Cade Cunningham. $13,940,809
Ausar Thompson $8,376,291
Jaden Ivey $7,977,240
Jalen Duren $4,536,840
Quentin Grimes $4,296,682
Marcus Sasser $2,755,229
________________________________________
Guaranteed money $56,883,091
Simone Fontecchio $3,044,872 (This year's Salary, not sure if he has a cap hold since he's not a 1st round pick)
The cap is projected at $141M. Why does everyone keep citing $65M as the cap space? Even if you reduce a big chunk for a top 5 pick, it still seems like there's more than $65M available to spend.
I'd like to trade the top pick for Mikal Bridges and then sign Tobias or Miles.
Cade/ Sasser
Ivey/ Grimes
Mikal/ Ausar
Tobias or Miles/ Fontecchio
Duren/ Stew
If we're able to sign Tobias or Miles, I'd like to hear from any capologist, how extreme can we front load the deal?
If Mikal eats up $23.3M next year, that's still only $80,183,091 if nothing is sent besides the pick.
I know some people will say that he has more value than that but I've never seen a top 3 pick sent for a 0-time all-star that's due a raise.
With $80M out of $141M spent, we'd have a little over $60M to sign a free agent (Miles or Tobias), re-sign Fonttecchio, and round out the remaining roster spots.

Re: Salary Cap 2024/ Free Agency Budget
Dead Money Dedmon still on the books for $2.75 million this summer.
Font has a $3.8 million qualifying offer (cap hold) so we'll use our cap space and then be able to spend more money to go over the cap to sign him.
For the top picks its approximately $10.5 for #1, $9.5 for 2, $8.5 for #3.
James Wiseman has a $15.8 qualifying offer that we'll almost certainly not extend to him but I wouldn't be surprised if Weaver tried to quickly resign him to something like 2 years $7 million.
Overall the real cap number won't be known until we know where we pick, and we see if we make any draft day trades which I think is pretty likely given that Weaver's back is against the wall right now. Even James Edwards III talking about "if Weaver is still here" when talking about moves this summer.

Biggest problem with this is that the Nets don't want to trade Mikal. They want to win because Houston controls future picks and swaps. Larui M is probably a lot more feasible if we get a top 2 pick but even that is something questionable in this draft.

Can you share where you’re seeing the Dedmon dead money?
According to the websites that I researched, there is the last season of his stretched contract.

Dedmon had 2 years left at $13.333 million per... but only $13.333 million was guaranteed the final year wasn't so you take that $13.3 and divide it by 5.
When you stretch and waive a played with two years remaining on your contract you spread it out over 5 seasons.
Pistons Paid Dedmon
20-21: $2,748,674

I guess it’s not that accurate.

Spotrac is by far the best I've seen lots of info on all the cap holds, dead money (which is important if you're a Pistons fan), qualifying offers, etc.

Re: Salary Cap 2024/ Free Agency Budget
Good thread to discuss our cap. So someone correct me if I am wrong but Cades QO of $18M for 2025-26 season means we really have two summers to use our cap space. His Max contract would kick in the following year and we will have cap space never more.
If that’s the case, do we spend it all this summer or kick it out another year? Split it up? Or just be opportunistic with it and see what comes our way?

I believe the QO for Cade is $18,123,052 but the "cap hold" for Cade is 300% of his previous salary since he's coming off a rookie scale contract so his cap hold is essentially a max deal.

Thx but still not clear. So the cap hold applies to his 2026-27 season, and the $18M QO applies to the 2025-26 season, correct? That still gives us two summers to use this cap space. If that’s the case, maybe we don’t spend it all this year, or take on more one year deals.

So maybe we have 10 “keepers” if we include our FRP and Wiseman. That leaves us 5 spots to fill.

The cap hold would be for a max salary slot for summer of 2025 if he doesn't sign an extension in summer 2024 (in a few months). The Qualifying Offer amount only matters if he accepts it, which would be horrible for us because it would essentially mean he doesn't want to sign long term with us and he wants to leave after his 5th season with us.... pretty much almost no chance that the QO number means anything at all.

So we give him a max offer this summer, and the $18M QO number is replaced with his first year of the Max contract, correct?
So if we have $70M in cap space, Cade’s Max is for $40M, then it’s possible we roll $30M in cap space to summer of 2025. And that’s probably less or non existent if we sign Wiseman and give out multi year deals. Bottom line, we’re spending big this summer.
Next thing is strategy. Do we just do a few big deals? Or several smaller ones that are more tradeable? $30M+ deals need to work out since they are harder to trade than $10M deals. That seems to be a trading sweet spot

This summer Font only counts $3.8 until he signs so yes we are using it now or never because I think he ends up signing something over $10 million per year with us.

Re: Salary Cap 2024/ Free Agency Budget
I'm hunting for a blockbuster move this offseason with the cap space. I dont see it coming on the FA market though. Looking for a trade I think we can put together one of the best offers for any team esp if we offer up a future pick. Obv giving up a future first when you stink is a huge risk but something like this years 1st,future 1st, and Ivey is likely a top offer.
Ofc backing up the truck like this requires the right player to hit the market. I would only put in a future 1st if were really getting a needle mover. I havent even heard a name I'd give up a future 1st for yet but if that guy comes I hope we get aggressive and go for it.

Re: Salary Cap 2024/ Free Agency Budget
Apparently if Font starts one more game he'll be getting a larger "starter QO" which means a few million of our cap space will disappear if we plan on keeping him.
Simone Fontecchio of the Detroit Pistons needs to start one more game to reach starter criteria. If he does, that will see his potential qualifying offer go from $3.8M to $6.3M.
Fontecchio's potential cap hold would also go up from $3.9M to $6.3M.

I'm assuming those were meant as two separate deals.
Ivey + our top pick to Utah for Markkanen
Sign Lavine outright
(No to the second half of that from me)

I still wouldn't take LaVine unless they get us Caruso as well.
That said, no chance we go out and get LaVine + Lauri. Lauri is going to be due a 5 year nearly $300 million contract after next season the same time a Max deal for Cade kicks in. If Utah has a willingness to trade him its in part because they don't think he's worth over $50+ million per season.
