Who to replace Monty?

I favor Monty and Weaver losing their jobs. Would Chris Quinn ever leave Miami for Dertoit. Would Kenny Atkinson be a good fit? Supposedly, Langdon and Atkinson have a relationship.

Atkinson would be great, but even with that connection why is he choosing us over Cleveland?

I think Weaver is gone but we're stuck with Monty for at least another year

I personally think a good candidate for the pistons are the following.

Darvin Ham- Detroit seems like a perfect spot for him if he wants to coach.
Adrian Griffin - I believe he got the short end of the stick
Kenny Atkinson- seems like a great culture setter
JB Bickerstaff- another who seems like he got the short end
James Borrego - a quality coach

Are the coaches like ham wn

The coaches who were recently removed from head coaching positions I’m not sure if they are interested. I’d prefer a young coach who specializes in player development but I’m also not certain if the pistons may not decide move on from some of their youth.

I'm fine keeping Monty to see how he can do with the team with some vets... unless the team feels like Monty isn't the right fit. I'm guessing TL is going to talk with Cade and try to see what he feels the reasons were for the awful season last year.

That said I'd also be fine with Ham, Atkinson, Bickerstaff, or someone else who's had NBA success as a head coach and is under 60. It feels like a big risk to bring in someone brand new with a team that still has so many young pieces. The last thing we want is like the end of the Joe D era where its a new coach every year for like four years in a row.

I honestly understand this response. "Coaching carousel" is an older term, but an appropriate one that would be applied in this situation if Monty is indeed fired out of a cannon.

With that said, it wasn't just here at the Pistons board, NBA fans, local media, but national media, and other NBA players wondering out loud just what in the **** Monty was doing at times last season.

He was, that bad.

I'll put it this way;

If Monty wasn't paid that contract, maybe making coaches average salary, do you honestly think he would have survived that losing streak, let alone get another season? If the answer is a no, then Monty doesn't deserve to coach the Pistons again next year.

Sunk cost fallacy.

Move forward with all new people, and let Trajon do his damn job properly from the start.

I think the reason we heard that "whoever the Pistons hire can fire/hire at will" before an actual hire, is no one is going to take a job, just to be saddled with bums the owner likes.

If Monty survives the next week, he is going to have an insanely short leash. Ill guarantee Trajon is, or has already sat down with Cade, to find out the skinny on if he wants Monty to stay, or go.

Trajon will surely take that into consideration moving forward, but as of right now, there are a bunch of potential coaches floating around, several of which I like, so I'm hoping, just like Weaver, Monty gets booted.

Fresh start after last seasons trainwreck.

Putting my blind faith into yet another GM that if he thinks Monty is good to stay than ok. I prefer to wash the taste of last year out of my mouth but I also wanted Weaver and Monty here. Just gotta sit back and let things unfold here I suppose.

What has the amount they owe him got to do with anything? Why would they willingly eat bad coaching just because they owe him money?

If they keep him and he doesn't take a monumental leap, then it will very probably lose the organization more money than would hiring a coach who can do a much better job.

We'll see but you dont owe the guy $60 mil

Im sure Gores isn't fully ready to admit he lost it in year 1. Hopefully im wrong though and Gores gets it over with now instead of waiting for the inevitable.

Monty knew the Pistons roster was a total mess and knew there was nothing to be done with it so turned down initial offers. Give the man players to work with, shooters than can space the floor and veterans who k ow how to play winning basketball. Team was way too young with non-complimentary skillets. I think loss of Monte Morris was a bigger loss than most give credit for. He would have been the starter next to Cade and had a shooter on the floor. But Weaver seemed to think they players would all grow and figure it all out without any veterans.

This team needs 2 starter veterans in the offseason and a 7th and 8th man that are from winning organizations as well. Everybody other than Cade, Thompson and Tec should be very available.
