Would you trade jaden Ivey for Ben Mathurin?

Mathurin or Sharpe were the two guys I wanted over Ivey. I went back and looked at their stats. They are remarkably similar - About the same PPG, MPG, shooting percentages. Jaden has the edge with assists, Mathurin with rebounds. Mathurin is only very slightly better on 3P%, which was supposed to be his strength, and he turns the ball over less, but that's probably because he handles it less. It may be a good shake-up with little down side. Lord knows we need to shake things up and get this losing mentality out of the building.

Probably. I'd have to watch more Ben Mathurin tape but the bits I've seen I've liked more than Ivey. His shooting percentages look a little better too over his career.

Better shooter but also a poor defender. Not the athlete and upside that Ivey still has IMO but he's super confidant in his ability to score. I probably would but honestly it is a trade that doesn't make much sense for either team at this point.

I guess for the Pistons changing for the sake of changing is going to happen with a new GM and coming off the worst season in franchise history. Part of me still thinks its pretty likely only 5 to 6 guys are back next year even though right now with Font we'd have 8 back it just feels coming in as a new GM you're going to be likely to try to make a move and make more of a systemic change from the dogpile we saw last season. That said, it also feels like coming off a 14 win most of our guys are going to be not sought after and having very low trade value that it wouldn't really make sense to move anyone either.

No thanks. I think that there is a higher ceiling players that the Pistons could target.

I think so, but it's not really a needle mover.

No, the fact that he fell out of the starting lineup and was losing his grip on his rotation spot on a 3 point chucking team that barely valued defense is a huge red flag.

I don't know, I just feel like everyone is too eager to throw Jaden into the garbage can. Like I get it, the defense is trash and the careless TOs are maddening, but he was the lead guard in both of our most impressive quality wins against good teams and he's the only young player (of consequence) on the roster that we know we can get a 70 game season out of.

Hesitantly yes because Mathurin is a bit overrated and I actually think Ivey is a pretty good fit alongside Hailburton.
In a vacuum, Ivey could very well have a better career but Mathurin is the better fit here. I'd take Keegan Murray over both but the Kings aren't trading him.

Your making an important distinction here imo.

Jaden has now played in more games in his 2 Piston seasons, than Cade has played for us over his 3 seasons.

I definitely would've drafted Math over Ivey. Ivey seems to have fewer health issues. Mathurin has that dog in him compared to Ivey, which I like. Math hasn't been as good on defense as I hoped. I don't see why Indy would do this trade, but, sure, I'd do it if it were on the table.

Probably better off packaging Ivey with another asset in a trade for a 3 and D player who's 6'6 or taller, though.

Easily.

I've soured pretty badly on Ivey. I can't imagine the Pacers would do this, even though Mathurin hasn't exactly set the world on fire either.

Ivey definitely has that dog in him, almost too much of it as he tries to play hero ball too often. Cade is the one who lacks the dog attribute.

When I've seen Ivey and Math go one-on-one, it's pretty clear to me who's got the mental edge, and it's not Ivey.

I also don't translate "dog" as alternating between running really fast towards the hoop and chucking threes, though. Cade sees the floor well and plays methodically. That doesn't mean he doesn't have fight. Cade has also demonstrated some clutch gene, imo.

Although I like his heart, I didn't want Ivey either

Ivey averages 20.6ppg, 4.4rpg, 4.4apg on 48% FG against Mathurin in 35mpg
Math averages 20.6ppg, 5.2rpg, 3.6apg on 49% FG against Ivey in 35mpg

It's a pretty accurate view of them as players overall. It's a wash and neither can defend a traffic cone so each of them do well offensively lol.

Mathurin just chirps a lot. He could end up better, but I'd probably just stick with the one with better health thus far since I see them as extremely comparable players with similar strengths and weaknesses. Would like to see Ivey in that uptempo Indy offense though.

I have Sharpe a notch below both.

Both could use a change of scenery. Sure. Whatever. That's a ringing endorsement, right?

Again? Geez. Aside from that, he can't play on either end. I would trade him for almost anyone. He doesn't fit at all.
