Pistons help out Mavericks

Post#1 » by catari11 » Fri Jun 28, 2024 2:18 pm

Why on earth trade Grimes to Dallas for 32 year old Hardaway? It's an obvious waste of cap space and Hardaway does very little to improve the Pistons D. Someone please explain.

I don’t see the point in this unless TL just figured Grimes was redundant in some way with Holland on board.

Grimes is like a 70% FT shooter and he’s not an amazing defender by any means. I don’t have confidence in his 3pt shot, and whilst I would’ve like a 1st round pick attached I feel with the new cba these 2nd round pics will be highly coveted by 2nd apron teams which can give us a late 1st.

This gives us picks, and also a player that can help in the interim for one year

We're giving up a cheap young two-way player that might be better than THjr right now and only getting 3 second rounders back. What an absolute **** show.

I hate that this one was telegraphed for so long. Can't complain too much though. It's a 1 year deal for 3 seconds and THJ will be in the rotation - maybe starting.

We need draft capital in the worst way and the only player on this roster that will fetch a 1st is Cade. (Not advocating for this, just saying) We are in the midst of a re-rebuild. Sucks but needed vets as well and this checks this box off.

If we could get a future first sure, make that trade... even if we had to give up a future 2nd... honestly those two picks might only be a few picks apart... but to only get 3 second rounders why not wait and see what we could actually get with our cap space. We would have been much better served using that cap space to actually sign Derek Jones Jr away from the Mavs.

What an absolute **** joke. We just took on the assistant GM from the Mavs who knows he was part of a group/team that was trying to actively dump Hardaway Jr it almost feels like he joined Detroit for a nice pay raise and to help out his buddies over in Dallas.

What are the SRP's? THJ is a friend of Cade some how. Holland played with Cade in HS, the UDFA 2-way signed played with Cade in Texas as well. This is about making Cade feel comfortable and making it his team.

Basically traded Bojan and Burks for three SRP's

Like another poster said, I guess Grimes was redundant with the drafting of Holland. But he’s still someone that I cheered for and Hardaway is not. Hopefully those draft picks will be part of an interesting trade.

But we've constantly thrown away seconds like its nothing in the past and our seconds are actually good like #31 or #32 and we trade for seconds that end up being like #55 it makes no sense at all these 2nd rounders aren't going to land us anything we've seen how rare it is to get an actual rotation worthy player with a 2nd round pick you end up with Saben Lee, Luka Garza, Isiah Livers, etc.

Why are people made at this? We get 3x 2nd round picks which is a decent return for a one year veteran’s contract that can still play and help with leadership with our young guys. People are mad that we don’t have spacing, THJ shoots 35% on 7 attempts per game. Grimes can’t even stay healthy, shoots 70% FT which makes it look like his 3pt shooting was just a hot streak. I don’t think the deal is amazing, but it’s a decent return

Don’t love it, don’t hate it. Grimes, in theory, is a very nice complimentary piece. It’s only ever been theoretical, though, in his short time here.
