Not sure how having a coach with a losing record decide they don't want to come to Detroit right after we trade for Tim Hardaway Jr should make us feel like this is good news. Literally going to be hard for TL to find someone who wants to come to this train wreck.

Actually it shouldn't really be all that hard. Of all the problems this team faces, finding a coach that wants to come here and might actually be good is one of the more simpler things to fix.

The trick is to flush all these retread names and look towards young up and comer types who are hungry and eager to prove themselves. Get imaginative, and think outside the box. Sacrifice flies and bunts aren't going to do anything for this franchise.

And if the rookie head coach you select ends up failing, what did you really lose? There is literally nowhere to go but up.

I know we had Dejounte Murray talks in the past. The reality is #5, Grimes and Ivey was likely a better deal than they just got from the Pelicans. He would have been great to pair with Cade.

I said this in the general coach thread: I wanted Borrego but our success doesn’t depend on him.

The right candidate who wants to be here is out there. Just gotta find him. There are plenty of people in the business who’d make great head coaches.

My bet is he didn’t get the red carpet treatment after the interview and figured he wasn’t getting the job. His resume isn’t good enough to withdraw from anything

Borrego and Redick were the two guys oft mentioned that I didn't want. If we had hired Borrego, I could have kind of talked myself into him, but I'm glad that's out of our hands now.
Tom Gores' Securus faced a class action lawsuit in 2024. The company engaged in a "quid pro quo kickback scheme" with county jails in Michigan which banned in-person visits in order to maximize revenue from voice and video calls.

To be honest the whole thing about Borrego missing out on two other jobs this cycle then ending up in Detroit would have felt like a bit of a disappointment.

Now lets just not end up with Bickerstaff.

He pulled out cause we didn't want him?

If he wasn't our choice who is?

Your avatar reminds me that I wanted Stackhouse as our coach in one of the previous coach hiring cycles (was it just last year?). Now he's washed out at Vanderbilt. Shows what I know.

I remember a time when he was viewed as a potential NBA coach.

For the college gurus: what happened with Stack in Vanderbilt?

Also: where is Kevin Ollie coaching now?

Take some Chris Paul bait, make him the player coach for a season. That will keep them talking about us.

Don't blame him. Didn't end well in Charlotte and a not good performance could be the end of his head coaching career.

Because TJ and Borrego know each other so well, you probably would rarely have legitimate debates. He would be a yes man coach. Again, I reference the Lions. The owner got 2 guys who didn't know each other to buy in on working together. Bring in someone with a different perspective yet he truly wants to be here.
