Probably not, unless we can get him for cheap, think 2-5M per year. I believe Gores said he was done overpaying for potential/hypothetical production.

No.

TL has no ego invested in him. He’s gone.

It didn’t work for him in Detroit, but he seems like a good kid and a good teammate. For his sake, I hope he lands in a good developmental situation somewhere.

Also doesn’t matter, btw, what it cost us to get him. What matters is what he’s worth now. And to us he’s not worth the money or spot. The cost is sunk.

We took a good long look at him. In a few years he'll probably develop into a decent backup center. Not really something we need and the upside just isn't there, imo.

The Warriors dealt James Wiseman to the Detroit Pistons as a part of a four-team trade that also involves the Atlanta Hawks and Portland Trail Blazers. In the deal, the Hawks picked up Saddiq Bey and Kevin Knox II will go from Detroit to Portland.

Pistons receive:

James Wiseman
Warriors receive:

Gary Payton II
2 future second-round picks (from Atlanta)
Hawks receive:

Saddiq Bey
Trail Blazers receive:

Kevin Knox
5 future second-round picks
This season, Bey has transitioned from a starting lineup role to a reserve one, averaging 14.8 ppg, 4.7 rpg and 1.6 apg in 28.8 mpg, all of which were drop offs from his 2021-22 stats (16.1 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 2.8 apg). The 6-foot-7 Bey is averaging 14.8 points and 4.7 rebounds in his third season with the Pistons, and averaged a career-high 16.1 points last season.

The addition of Bey creates an apparent surplus of small forwards in Atlanta, where De’Andre Hunter is the starter.

The Hawks decided they didn't want to pay Bey $8.5 million for one year so he is now also a UFA. Seems like both teams lost that trade.

Yes, James Wiseman is indeed an unrestricted free agent. The Detroit Pistons declined to extend him a qualifying offer, making him available to sign with any NBA team that chooses to offer him a contract12. Wiseman was able to carve out a niche with the Pistons after being acquired from the Golden State Warriors in February 2023, averaging 8.6 points and 6.1 rebounds in 87 appearances with Detroit over the past two seasons. While his defensive deficiencies limit his ceiling, he can still be a positive

Coulda been a different outcome for Bey if he hadn’t torn his ACL.

He was bad before the injury. Hard to be a 3&D archetype that can't shoot and doesn't play defense.

Neither are players you want in your rotation if you have hopes of being good.

Should have taken the 5 2nds or whatever it was, but nothing to do about that now.
