I'm still surprised. Nice. So we still have roughly $18-20 million (depending on if Malik or Tek were used with room exception)

Good deal. Also surprised it’s only a 2-year deal though. Is it gonna be a big FA class 2 years from now? Tobias and Tek both get 2-year deals.

Wonder if we’re using the $8 mil room exception on Tek

Damn, I wish we could have gotten a third year team option by paying slightly more.

I guess we’ll just cross that bridge when we get there.

It seems like Trajan is doing these 2 year deals internally. Obviously Tech is much younger than Tobias. I would if there’s more to it.

I’m shocked it was so low. But I think our minds have been warped a bit since he was the only one who could shoot on our roster last year which made him look like an AllStar

Yeah I was expecting somewhere between 8-12 mil per year, we got him on the cheap side.

People who are shocked are not paying attention how the new CBA work. How many teams can spend the 12 mil MLE this season?

The top players are still getting paid, mid level players are the ones suffering with the new CBA.

If I am not mistaken we'll have his full bird rights since he played for us last season, and in theory will play the next 2 seasons, so 3 seasons is what's required for full bird rights, 2 years is not bad for us, and give him some flexibility to sign another contract before he is too old to get paid.

We still have all our cap space, Fontecchio and Beasley agreed but did not sign anything yet. We can spend all cap space we got left, then use part of the room exception to sign Beasley, and after that we can go over the cap to sign Fontecchio.

It’s good.

I’m surprised we didn’t want to extend him for longer though.

Wow, 2/16 for a player I like.

I think we'll have to trade 2 for 1, and hopefully sign one more upgrade.

I always felt that Pistons fans over-valued him a bit. Ainge didn't do Detroit a favor by trading him there, it was just the best offer he had for Font.

Some people also forget that he's going to be 29 going into next season. Plus he was a restricted free agent. So I'm not surprised at all, there didn't seem to much outside interest in him.

Still, all that said, this is a solid move for Detroit. At worst he's neutral value trade filler. But he also can give Detroit some decent production and value on the floor.

Yeah he doesn’t have a great deal of upside. He’s a rock solid player though. Still would have liked to have seen a third year even if it meant a slightly higher pay scale.
