You didn’t think he was just going to disappear, did you? I think we are now officially NOT the worst team in the league

It's a non-guaranteed tryout contract.

I don’t think he has much of a chance.

If he makes the team, you could see a lineup up of Ben Simmons, Ziarie Williams and him. That would be a brutal offense regardless of who else was on the floor

I was a fan of Killian Hayes. I thought he'd have a nice career. Always felt he was a decent jumper away from being solid. I'm personally pulling for him.

Best of luck to him. Seemed like a nice enough guy, but he just didn’t develop much in his time here. Maybe he turns it around in a different environment, but it sure wasn’t happening here.

This.

Why hate on a dude?

Go to work and develop elsewhere.

Hope it works out for him

Because one of his major issues in Detroit was self-inflicted: he chronically refused to do anything with the ball that would require him to come into contact with a defender. At the merest possibility that he might run into a defender, he'd pull up for a bad floater or midrange jumper, pass the ball, or literally turn and dribble away. He may well have struggled to get to the rim anyway, but this ruled it out completely, and defenses knew said tendency full well and played him accordingly.

Attacking into contact is an exceedingly common thing. Everyone does it. And it's an essential thing. He decided he shouldn't need to do it, and it came to light after his departure that both of his head coaches had tried without any success to change his ways. The other stuff was what it was, but this was something he had 100% control over.

I can't hate on many people. But this guy was the opposite of a gritty player. Bad in big moments, good in garbage time, avoided contact, looked disinterested, not a leader, basically everything Tyrese Haliburton is not. I'll never forgive Troy Weaver for setting us back another 5-10 years with this pick.

I might get accused of censorship but I’ve considered locking any thread w Killian Hayes in the title. And I even started one

First pick of a new gm that went horribly wrong, the other guy considered looks perfect for what we need. That GMs tenure went awful and this is a message board.

We’re not even close to the end of Killian threads, this board will probably need a stickied thread titled “Killian Hayes was awful, talk about it here only”

Can't wait for next season when he has one decent game in every six or seven for Brooklyn and someone comes to post his stats saying we should've kept him.

Rarely have I seen an NBA player who was as objectively awful on the court as Killian have such a dedicated group of fans.

He was by any measure whatsoever the worst player in the league who had a major rotation role in all of the past three seasons. He got chance after chance after chance after chance after chance despite being miserably bad -- and not did he get endless chances, but he also spent the vast majority of his games in any given season as a starter.

When the front office was ready to move on from him, the worst coach the NBA has seen in decades swooped in to not only keep him but also immediately put him back in the starting lineup until the team's owner forced him to stop, then continue using him as the primary backup and spot starter for as long as he could. The whole saga was absolutely insane.

For no significant stretch was he actually a solid NBA rotation player. A short and extremely inconsistent span (he'd have two blah games and one bad game for each good game) in which he averaged 13.5 PPG on blah efficiency was the best he put together, and it was cause for riotous celebration by his hardcore supporters. Whenever he had a few decent games amidst a bevy of stinkers, they would come out of the woodwork to advocate for him. It was just surreal.

Killian really was the most painful sort of draft bust: not only was he absolutely horrible, but we were subjected to 200+ games across four seasons of watching him almost invariably be the worst rotation player on the floor.
