Big trade and Minny has our pick

KAT for Randle and Divincenzo. Wow. I like it for both teams. TWolves get our FRP that was held by the Knicks. It seems we could have played the Charlotte role and got our pick back.

Minnesota might have been set on our pick being given to them (although in reality it's potentially not that valuable and could conceivably end up being a second rounder if we remain terrible).

Will be interesting to see what compensation Charlotte gets for the salary they are taking.

It's most likely other teams don't value our pick high because they think its fairly possible it will just be two second rounders... so the Knicks know this and this was the pick they were willing to give up on the deal. Minny knows on paper they are getting the worse end of the deal so it was important for them to have it look like a good first rounder was coming back. The reality is this is both a move that is due to the huge contract that KAT has as well as KAT's lack of stepping up when it matters most.

Interesting....this gives me hope that trajon could still make a deal

Wonder what the deal woulda been.
Thjr+Reed works capwise
Stew+?

Makes one think that we aren't done with our roster just yet!

Super rare for two contending teams not looking to rebuild to make a move like this.

Damn interesting.

I think it’s defensible for both teams. For the Wolves it’s mostly about money. As impressive as they were last year having all that money committed to ANT, KAT, and Rudy wasn’t likely sustainable. I don’t love Randle as a fit there, but he’s not there long term. They are also recuperating young draft assets and Donte should be a very nice piece there. I think they still have the pieces to contend. Naz Reid should see a bigger role next year.

For the Knicks on paper they’ve obviously massively upgraded the roster. Given Randle was out much of the year they’ve turned IHart and Donte into KAT and Mikal, plus they have a full year of OG. I respect the all-in approach, but I still wonder about KAT as a primary defensive big man and really think they’d into their perimeter advantage on both ends if they started KAT with Mitch. And there are questions about KAT as an impact guy when it matters.

Most people are saying this is a massive win for the Knicks and a huge fail for the Wolves. I’m not convinced of that.

Knicks also gonna dump Robinson next. My takeaway

Knicks lost all their depth and gave up 6 FRPs Randle divencenzo Bojan and second round pick for bridges and KAT.

That’s a classic move by the Knicks to blow up their assets for win now moves.

The problem? This isn’t the same roster that got them to a winning culture. Sure Brunson pushed them there but the 2021 roster is the reason they got out of their situation. Imagine our roster now and if they make play in, you’re gonna trade them all? Doesn’t make sense. That’s what the Knicks did.

Wolves on the other hand, give up a big contract, go all in who won for them (Reid), gain depth with Randle and divencenzo but that pick wasn’t enough. I’d be looking to dump Randle next if I was them.

Wolves won the trade not the Knicks. Knicks lost their front court and thibadou runs his players to the ground. They might be a first round exit next year.

Makes sense Edwards is their star. They just build around him

I think this is a win-win. Both teams have financial issues.

Minnesota needed to get off KATs deal to make any other moves. And they already have Gorbert and Reid at center. So to pick up Randle for one year who could also be flipped again makes sense. And DDV will give them another solid all around player.

New York is all in after the Bridges trade and had a big hole at center. Randle isn’t a good fit for the team they have now and is going to need a new contract soon, one that the Knicks didn’t want to pay for such a bad fit. And w KAT they can also play a 5 out offense like the Celtics. But they will miss DDV.

DDV is not talked about enough for his performance in last years playoffs.

Imagine DDV next to Cade. *chefs kiss*

I believe the Wolves wanted DDV, and gladly took a one year rental of Randle, as they have Naz sitting right there, ready to go. Perhaps even flip his ass for another piece.

Minnie got the better of this trade.

Minnie got the better of this trade.

Randle is such an obviously poor fit that he almost feels like filler.

The trade was to save money, and they also got a really good starting level player and a pick.

On paper the Wolves look worse, but I see why they did it and think it could end up working out for them.

As of right now I will admit their rotation is a bit confusing- it doesn't look like Donte starts. I like him a lot though.

Randle is solid offensively. He should be able to cover some of wht KAT does. Will be fun to watch.

I think people see this as a big win for the Knicks because KAT has a much better reputation than Randle which I don't agree with, I don't think there's a big difference between the two, and because KAT is a much better fit with the Knicks than Randle which I can agree with.

Where the Knicks kind of lost this was adding in DiVincenzo. I know they have a crowded roster at the 2 and the 3 but he had great chemistry with the group, was one of their best defenders and deadly from 3. I think that made it too rich from their POV but I get it, KAT has some starpower and he is a very good fit offensively with Brunson. I just think they overpaid.

It's going to take a while for my brain to adjust to the new cap rules. The trade value of these overpaid or about to be overpaid guys is just in free fall. I wonder how long it's going to take GM's to remember that in free agency?

as much as i disliked well, pretty much everything weaver did when he was here, i am amused at how much he de-valued that first round pick. it's been traded like 5 times, nobody wants it.

Yeah, it isn't really being treated as a hyper-valuable asset. Some say it being included in this deal is an indicator of how valuable it is.

I'm in the camp that says that KAT's massive extension devalues him as a player enough that him for Randle/Donte wasn't THAT far off to a team that cares about flexibility.

At this point I think much of the league thinks it's just going to lapse into second rounders.

Lets hope they're wrong!

That's because it's extremely likely to convey as a second rounder after 2027 and thus has little value.
