Big trade idea

Post#1 » by Horace6766 » Fri Jan 31, 2025 5:12 pm

Detroit gets Devin Booker

Phoenix gets D Fox

Kings get Ivey, Thompson, Hardaway Jr and future first and a handful of seconds. If salary filler is needed we throw in the end of our bench guys.

This allows the Suns to start Fox and Beal in the backcourt and not have to worry about playing Booker and Beal together.

Let’s the pistons get another pure scorer and outside shooter.

The kings get younger cheaper and some players with potential along with Tim’s expiring contract. Add in the pics and it might be enough.

I don't know if it works value-wise but my first instinct is I really don't want to part with Ivey and Thompson right now. And the idea of getting rid of future 1sts after we have been hamstrung by the deal we did to get Stewart isn't appealing to me at all.

I also know that Devin Booker *loves* Detroit. I'm unrealistically hoping that things in Phoenix implode catastrophically and Booker basically pushes his way out for pennies on the dollar / maneuvers his way back to his home state. One can dream right?

I think the more realistic trade would be the following.

Kings want "win now pieces" and draft capital

Pistons trade: Ivey($8.0) + Tobias($25.3) + Beasley($6.0) + UNPROTECTED 2030 First rounder + Raptors 2nd rounder 2025
Kings trade: Fox($34.9) + Kevin Huerter($16.8)

Kings have already been rumored to have interest in moving off of Huerter's contract this season. Kings will want Beasley's shooting to "win now" IMO.

Fox + Cade would be the best backcourt in the league, but its a high price to pay.

Gonna be hard to get Booker with Houston owning all their picks. If book becomes available they have all the young talent and picks to make it happen and that’s exactly why they traded Brooklyn all their picks for the Phoenix ones.

100% agree... Fox is obtainable its just a matter of if we want to give up 1 or 2 young guys, 1 or 2 win now guys, and 1 or 2 picks. I don't think we have what the Suns would want in a Booker deal unless we dealt Cade.

Suns will not trade Book unless he wants out.

Of which there is no indication and there is counter-indication.

I think they trade him after failing next season, but not this off season

I don't think bringing in a smaller ball dominant guard (Booker or Fox) who doesn't play particularly good defense at the price of Ausar is likely to be the winning move for us. But I get the appeal of having two superstar offensive players if we want to raise our ceiling and I know you have to give to get.

So that's the type of move you make if the Pistons were the 1-3 seed and you don't mind selling the future for a very real shot at a championship in the next 3 years. But the way the team is now? Why? Do you think Cade and Booker and scraps would be enough to win a championship when Durant, Booker, Beal and scraps has been a slightly above .500 team in its experiment?

I know everyone is having fun this year watching the Pistons be competitive, especially after recent years, but we need to lower expectations a bit. Rome wasn't built in a day, as they say. The Pistons just aren't in a spot where it makes sense to give up the future for a star player. It's better to play the long game and invest in young guys and picks. 2018, the .500 Pistons trade for 28 year old star Blake Griffin and the rest is history. 2025, the .500 pistons trade for 28 year old star Devin Booker? Maybe it's a trade offer you make because you believe Ausar and Ivey are absolute phonies. They're still extremely young with high ceilings. Hell people were low on Cade at the beginning of the season and now everyone considers him to be a top 25 player at age 23. I'd argue the same things from the Suns perspective: Why the hell would you want Fox (whose contract expires in one year) instead of Ausar, Ivey, a 1st, and 2nds? Durant is 36 and they're a .500 team. Do they really think Fox is that much better than Booker that all of a sudden they're the favorites to win it all? And in a 2 year window? Wouldn't you rather just take the young guys and picks, trade Durant, and have a really good start at a rebuild?

I would rather see a full season of cade and Ivey with JB before moving Ivey on. Booker is the only star the suns have that has much of a future given Durant and Beals age. I think they'd hang onto him for as long as possible

Any chance they want KD instead? He also fits Amen Sengun Green. There’s a chance they go for KD and not Booker.

I think if you see what Amen has been doing lately, you see really good reason to wait and hold onto Ausar and see how he continues to develop. Remember that he missed a bunch of development time that Amen had and while they're not the exact same player they do share a ton of attributes.
