Detroit's Trade Deadline Results

Post#1 » by coordinator0 » Thu Feb 6, 2025 11:32 pm

IN: Dennis Schröder / Lindy Waters III / 2027 2nd round pick (MIL pick) / 2031 2nd round pick (DAL pick)

OUT: Wendell Moore Jr. (waived)

Not bad. I think Waters III directly takes over for Moore Jr. as a guy who barely ever plays, but Schröder obviously slots in immediately as a major rotation piece. I'm not a huge fan of his but the production is there as a guy who can both shoot and finish around the rim decently. Detroit finishes a little over $1.2 million over the cap.

Hopefully he can give us an efficient 12 and 6 or something. Either way it’s production we didn’t have without disrupting what we already have.

Assuming Shroder isn't going to get bought out (which I haven't seen anything suggesting that), you have to consider this a productive deadline.

While nothing substantial was done, but the short term outlook does look better after today. Got useful talent, at a position that was super thin who's skillset was a huge need. Also got draft assets. All while giving up nothing but cap space, all of which is going to be re-created this summer.

All in all one of the better trade deadlines for Detroit in quite awhile. Nothing to complain about.

Did exactly what we needed to do. Sometimes less is more.

From my understanding we gave up a 2028 2nd rounder for Dennis. Still have the 2031 Mavs 2nd?

So add a 2nd rounder to our collection. Very solid deadline.

No long term salary implications. No forfeited draft assets.

Netted a player who fills a role we need and a couple of second rounders.

Improved now and for the future with no downside.

It’s not flashy but it works.

Solid B. Only homerun moves get As.

Something I haven't seen mentioned yet;

Schroder is one of those guys.

One of those guys who loves confrontation, and will mix it up.

Stewart
Holland
Schroder

Is a possibly explosive bench, in terms of anger management issues.

I expect an exceptionally fun rest of the season, with a decided edge to the teams play. Understand what this is, and if you don't like how Stewart, or Holland act sometimes, Well, prepare yourselves.

That’s a pretty generous grading scale. No big positives. No bog negatives. C grade

I like the Schroeder pick up, particularly given the structure of the trade. He should bring what they need for the balance of the season- a legitimate secondary ball handler, a credible scoring threat, and a willing and capable defender. He’s a UFA after the season, so they’ll maintain their cap flexibility.

Schroder is playing for his next contract. Basically will hero ball it whenever Cade isn't on the floor. Which is what Detroit needs. I can stomach him for ROS.

I think our team being .500 and in playoff contention has given Langdon a good problem.
Had we been worse, I would've expected something like THJr + 2nd for a 1st round pick
I'm happy with Schroder. I'm fine with diving the Triple Lindy. Hope Moore finds a gig.

No, Utah got the second that Detroit was supposed to get before Schroder got rerouted. They never actually ended up giving a 2nd round pick. Just getting two from Philadelphia for the Martin dump.

It was getting late and picking up two seconds and the point we needed is not bad.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

I stand corrected, looks like they kept the second round pick from GS and sent different one out. Still a net of plus two though.

Right so we keep the 2nds from Philly?

I'm fine with it, about what I expected. Langdon addressed a need with a guy who can play a bit even though he's an absolute clown.
The 2nds are inconsequential but not nothing so it's fine.

As I said, I expected something like this but I can't wait until the day when the Pistons are the contender adding substantial players for draft capital as opposed to the team sin-eating for 2nds and working around the edges of the roster. For now though, this deadline served its purpose.

Not sure until the full trade details are out with the pick information. It looks like Detroit received a 2031 pick from GS. Utah received a 2028 2nd pick and a 2031 2nd round pick, but I'm not sure which one came from Detroit. Nor which one it could of been from Detroit's stash of 2028 or 2031 picks that they own the rights to.

Schofer will te shots away from Beasley.

It will be interesting to see where the minutes Dennis will be getting are coming from. Detroit didn't move off any of their regular rotation guys so something's gotta give. Obviously it seems like Sasser's minutes will take a direct hit, but I'm hoping he still gets some run. Shave off a few minutes from Hardaway Jr. and Fontecchio. Maybe even Harris. This does open up some interesting opportunities for running smaller units more often.

Just hope Schroder fits well enough into the team chemistry. If he does I think there's a fairly decent chance Detroit re-signs him this summer. If not... well, they tried.
