Big Congrats to Blaha!

I know he’s slipped a fair bit, but I still enjoy listening to George call a Pistons game. He’s been at it 49 years, and is going to honored with a Curt Gowdy Media Award.

We’ve really been blessed with devoted announcers in Detroit. I don’t even follow baseball closely now, but Harwell was a legend, too.

Slipped "a bit" is the understatement of the century.

Count that baby and a foul! Blaha seems like a great guy (and a true fan of the team). I hope he gets in the Hall of Fame (and then retires and is replaced by someone who can follow the action a bit better ....).

He is the biggest fanboy on planet. Love the way he gushes over every player.

I love Blaha. He's very witty and sometimes I think he goes over the heads of some fans who don't understand Detroit references (especially music)

George deserves his flowers. He won't be with us much longer. Yes, sometimes it's obvious he doesn't see as well as he once did. To clearly paint myself as a fellow geezer, back in the early satellite dish days 'League Pass' was watching all the team's 'back feeds.' In many ways that was great as for home games you had the road team crew and for road games the Pistons' crew. There were no commercial breaks broadcast. The feed stayed with the crew and the camera people amused themselves taking shots of the audience or the cheerleaders. You heard the announcing crews unfiltered dealing with their staff. There were quite a few who were diva pricks. George was the same gracious kindly gentleman on or off the air. He can play out his string with my respect and appreciation.

I love George, his signs of age don’t bother me one bit.

I’d take another 50 years of him at his current condition over Johnny Kane.

I agree 100%... I've been listening to Blaha for over 30 years. One game of Kane was too much for me.

Amen! Maybe in another 50 years, Space Jam will be real and they can pencil him in as an announcer.

Smooth Johnny Kane catching strays over here…it is possible to say something nice about Blaha without **** on the new guy btw…

Anyways, Blaha really is the best. Nothing funnier than when he gets sassy/pissed off.

The man still comes up with new things to say every game, which always amazes me. We need to get his name up in the rafters.

I haven't realy notice him slipping too much, If anything I think Kelser is a bit more negative or disgruntled or something.

Blaha does deserve to be celebrated in Piston land, but I admit I usually listen to the other team's feed nowadays. Father time wins every time, so it's not personal, but I do find it frustrating when he doesn't have any idea what is going on.

If we're supposed to take a high road and not throw shade on Johnny Kane, then I'll just say Pistons clearly need to consider lots of candidates.

Up there in age but still has it
Read on Twitter

I remember his scathing criticism of the refs when they ejected Jokic last years against the Pistons, takes a pro to make that call and call out the refs with such confidence, one of my favourite PBP guys around the league, the new young guy is also good.

I personally love Johnny Kane. He brings the energy. Some folks around here may not remember, or ever heard, how loud, and heated George used to get in his younger days.

Blaha is a legend, but when you got two guys, at, or over 70, they can only bring it on occasion.
