Malik Beasley vs Ty Jerome

Post#1 » by Rip32 » Sat May 24, 2025 4:52 am

Both are essentially the same defensively. However, I noticed Ty attacks the rim alot and is more of a scorer in a variety of ways imo. He can shot the 3 but loves attacking the rim. Plus, Ty is a legit 6'5. Who do you think is the better fit? Honestly, if Beasley 3 not falling what does he bring?

Beasley. He'a already established chemistry with the team, understands and excells at his role, and wants to be here.

Beasley excelled under Bickerstaff.

Jerome didn't see the court.

This.
Beasley was a huge culture changer for the team.

Does Ty Jerome shimmy at appropriate moments?

Can’t turn on Beasley like that. He better sign for a fair deal though after those playoffs.

I'd like to see him in at least one playoff series with Beefstew setting screens for him and judge on that

I think a very good general rule of thumb is that, unless you're already a title favorite, you should be willing to disrupt continuity for a clear upgrade.

Ty Jerome is not a clear upgrade over who he'd be potentially replacing, so I don't see much of a point unless he's going to be cheaper and thus allow us to upgrade elsewhere. And I don't see that.

At this point, it's almost certainly either keep Beasley and Schroder or lose them both and add someone else. That someone else is unlikely to be proper recompense.

I am always about playoff performance. Beasley was a trainwreck in the playoffs, when the games actually matter. I'd argue that he cost the Pistons a series win. Im OK with a playoff upgrade. He's also younger, and bigger then Beasley.

I think it's very important not fall in love with Beasley and overpay him. It's hard to believe he'll be such a good shooter next year like he was last year, and, besides his shooting, he's not that good offensively or defensively. Like we saw in the playoffs, his shot wasn't falling and he dropped from being 2nd best Piston in the regular season to, probably, 5th or 6th. As far as culture changer, sure he was great last year, but the culture is pretty set right now in Detroit. We don't need him for that anymore.
I would be pretty warry giving him full mid level exception. If he's wiling to take 3/36 or less - sure, let's sign him.

I really like Beasley, but Ty Jerome is a more versatile offensive player. I feel that having a player like him AND Ivey on the team better covers the back up PG role, thus making both Beasley and Schroeder more expendable. Signing Jerome also makes our divisional rival weaker, as he is probably one of, if not Cleveland's top priorities this off-season.

If we don't re-sign Beasley, might as well find a 3pt shooter who can play defense. It's a must.

Playoffs show even the best shooters go cold. Which is why you need guys who play defense, hopefully everyone, kinda like OKC.

We should be doing that even if we sign Beasley. Can’t have too many of them. Are we really bringing back THJ?

I like his game a lot, he'd be a nice signing as long as it's not an exorbitant cost

Amico is a terrible source. Completely unreliable.

But Jerome can't play postseason defense. He sat for most of game six because the Pacers had been deliberately targeting him.

Yeah, at least Beasley had two good games this postseason.
