Second round draft ideas

Post#1 » by Horace6766 » Thu Jun 26, 2025 2:20 pm

What would you guys like to do with the second round pick or trades for tonight.

For me I’d love to trade our pick and another second or 2 to the T Wolves and draft Stanford center Maxine Raynaud.

I’d then try and offer the Celtics who seem to be trying to cut costs a future first somewhere like 2027 for Sam Hauser and the number 2 pick in the second round. You could then draft Ryan Kalkbrenner from Creighton or Rasheer Fleming. Remember if the pistons keep getting better that first is a late round pick 2 years from now and we gain a back up small forward who shoots over 40% from 3 point range for the next 3 years at 11 million a year which is a steal.

If the Celtics don’t bite the Hornets and the third and fourth pick and already added 2 players in the first round and only have so many spots for rookies. Offer them a handful of future seconds for the third pick in the second round and take whichever above players the Celtics don’t take. This plan costs you your back up small forward but saves your future first.

If you draft both Raynaud and Kalkbrenner you hope you have 2 decent young centers and could then at the trade deadline or end of the year trade Jalen Duran for something decent. We can’t pay everyone and this plan insures you the best chance of getting a decent young center you can develop this year.

If you draft Raynaud and Fleming you can still work on the above plan with Raynaud and hope Fleming can learn behind Tobias this year and step in to that spot next year when Tobias is gone. This plan may also allow you to one day trade Stewart and his 15 million in a package to bring you an elite player.

End of 25 season with this plan your paying Ivey but you will have both Tobias and Fontechinno off the books and possibly be able to package Duran and Stewart with some future assets for a very good player. Holland also becomes redundant with this plan and could be traded to.

Cade/Dennis/sasser
Ivey/Beasely
Thompson/Hauser/Holland
Tobias/Stewart
Duran/Raynaud/kalkbrenner(or flemming at the 4 if you choose him)

I didn't follow college BBall this year but is Fleming really better than Klintman? What are their similarities and differencies?

Fleming seems like a good pick but regardless, you have a point. 2nd rounders are there for a reason. And even if you get one that is rotation level or better, it can take a year or two to get there.

Measurements from the NBA Draft Combine:
  • Klintman: 6'8 ¼" barefoot / 212.2 lbs / 6'11" wingspan / 8'10 ½" standing reach
  • Fleming: 6'8 ¼" barefoot / 232.4 lbs / 7'5 ¼" wingspan / 9'1 ½" standing reach

Fleming physical tools look better. But I don't know what message you send to Klintman if you pick him, in particular knowing that both would be picked 37th in consecutive Drafts.

I don't think messaging should matter? Klintman should take away that his future isn't guaranteed and he needs to fight for his place. And he should be thinking this already...

You take best player available and figure it out later…dont be hesitant to take Flemming because you have Klintman, that is ass backwards.

Likely that one or both of them don’t even pan out. I think Klintman could play some 3 like a poor mans Batum as well.

Don’t know the centers left well enough, but if it’s not Fleming I’d hope we go for the most athletic rim running center available (unless theres a clear better guy out there)

Make those 3rd stringers fight for a job. It should make them both better.

there are 5-6 quality PF and Cs available. Pistons ought to nab one of them (even if they requires trading up to guarantee it). this is should a priority over small ball wings.

This. If there's any way of throwing another 2nd to jump up and grab someone you think has at least a slight possibility of being a future answer at the 4 then I think you go for it.

There some decent front court guys who could help, but if there all gone I think we draft Barea or Lanier. Having Flemming and Portis competing will be good for Both, Tobias only has one year left on the contract technically, so the future at PF spot is open here as well as the backup PF of the future.
