Simple. Is there a regular rotation player who isn't on our roster yet?
Just trying to get a sense of where people's expectations are for the the remainder of this offseason, as we've definitely hit a point where the news cycle has slowed down quite a bit.
Feel free to discuss whether we SHOULD add someone in the thread below, and what spot in the rotation they would occupy.
But for the response I just want to see what people think we WILL do.
Do we add another rotation player this offseason?

Re: Do we add another rotation player this offseason?
A lot of the remaining rotation players are pretty "fringe" maybe slightly better than someone like BBall Paul but close enough I doubt we sign someone else.
Al Horford
Chris Boucher
Trey Lyles
Thomas Bryant
Precious Achiuwa
Ben Simmons
Monte Morris
Cam Payne
Gary Payton II
Alec Burks
Seth Curry
RFA crowd is a little better but often hard to actually land one of those guys because teams are so likely to match.
If we don't sign someone with NBA rotation experience, I bet at some point this season there will be an injury and we will end up having a need for another player we will wish we had signed so we don't have to depend on a Bobi Klintman or Chaz Lanier.

I think whether or not guys like Lyles, Boucher, Payne, and Monte Morris would accept small roles on this team depends upon just how dry the market is.
The Pistons are in a bit of an awkward spot when it comes to adding another rotation player, because anyone who signs will do so knowing that they'll be playing very small minutes in lieu of injuries. That's a bad sell for somebody who could get more minutes elsewhere.

Yeah, that is an issue.
With the Pistons you’re most likely looking at a short term deal and a limited role.
With the market being pretty limited most of those players are likely hoping to at least get a role with more steady minutes so they can earn a better deal next year.
The money likely won’t be there for these guys this offseason.

Re: Do we add another rotation player this offseason?
if the current rotation players are:
cade/levert
ivey/robinson
ausar/holland
harris
duren/stewart
i think we have to have another body to throw in as a backup 4. i've seen some suggest that we can throw ausar or holland there but that takes them far away from where they're best, which is as POA defenders. we completely abandoned the "stew at the 4" experiment so i doubt they try that again even against double-big lineups. bobi most recently showed in summer league he's not ready to be a rotation guy.
this honestly feels like our lead guard situation last season, where we went into the season with a "let's see how this goes" mentality only having cade and ivey as reasonable options in that role. when ivey went down it was clear we needed to make some move so we got schroder. so i don't know if it will happen in the off season but at some point this year we'll have to get a proper backup 4 if i had to guess.

Whats Bostons luxury tax situation? Would they not be more than open to dealing Hauser into our TPE?
What other teams are facing major tax implications now and in the near future, that could use a little relief?

Re: Do we add another rotation player this offseason?
I don't think we are going to sign anyone what would make that top 9, but we really could use another big that could hit a jumper and a pg that can run the team in a pinch. Whether that big can crack the rotation as a regular or is just playing spot minute (barring injury) would really depend on the guy.
The problem is that in the modern NBA, almost everyone misses 10+ games. Besides for Ivey, we got fairly lucky with injuries last year with 8 guys playing 70+ and several others that were available but just didn't get the nod that night. Depth matters. I mean, sasser wasn't exactly "in the rotation" the whole season but ended up playing 57 games for us. Bball paul was 3rd string and played 45. Sure, some of those were garbage minutes, but they averaged 14 and 10 mpg.

Re: Do we add another rotation player this offseason?
I voted “yes” and then re-read the question which included the word “offseason”
I don’t think we do anything else significant this offseason in terms of rotation players. We’ll see how the young guys are. But…
We got the TPE and a bunch of seconds which is a good position to be in. I’m sure TL is just going to keep poking around until he can find a good deal between now and the trade deadline. And at some point this season we add another rotation player.

Hauser is one of only six (or seven if you consider Queta worthy of the title) NBA rotation players set to suit up for the Celtics next season. I doubt they're in any hurry to get even worse, particularly as the combination of Brown, White, Simons, and a weak East alone could suffice to keep them out of the basement. Dealing Hauser would still leave them $7m over the tax line anyway. If they move him, I'd imagine it would be at the deadline. They'll want to be out of the tax to get out of the repeater, but they needn't be there until the end of the season.
The Mavericks could go a long way toward ducking the tax by trading Washington with no salary coming back, but I think that's unlikely unless a meaningful asset is going the other way. The Knicks, Timberwolves, Rockets, and Clippers have nobody they'd be of a mind to dump at the moment. Outside of the Lakers, the rest of the tax teams have easy routes to ducking the tax by the deadline if they so desire. The Lakers would presumably be happy to part with Kleber, but the Pistons shouldn't want him unless the Lakers are adding a meaningful sweetener to the deal -- they'd be effectively wasting the TPE otherwise -- and parting with a 2031/2032 1st (they have no tradeable picks before then) just to dump Kleber's salary would be insane for the Lakers.
The Sixers could potentially look to shed salary in order to sign Grimes without exceeding the 2nd apron, but only Oubre would fit that need, and the Pistons should not want to add a bad shooter.
