An impressive outing. Nine three pointers, 72% from the field, zero TOs.

Man, the non-Lanier highlights musta been brutal. They still lost.

He hit the rim a couple times on his makes, that’s about it. Chaz can shoot. Think we kinda knew that already though.

Nice pick for a 2nd rounder. If he can become even a rotation player, we chose well.

I don't think his shooting was ever the question. It's whether he can do anything else to get himself on the the court since he's probably going to be getting relatively few attempts in his limited minutes. Realistically, he might get a shot every 10 possessions, so he's got to do something positive the other 90% of the time

yeah he's an elite shooter, but he definitely still has to refine his footwork and process with his shots at an nba level. g league defense/closeouts are nowhere near as intense and you can see he made it look like target practice. he improved a lot every year in college so hopefully he continues that trend.

unfortunately though he's a 6'4 off-ball guard so his ceiling might be a bench sniper like THJ or something but i am still optimistic of that happening eventually.

The Pistons Powered writer who did the article about the team regretting drafting Lanier then had to write the article three days later about Lanier scoring 40 (lol). But in the headline he also labeled Lanier going to the G-League as a "controversial rookie move". We had almost a week of no games and our G-League team was playing; I would've thought Lanier getting some reps should be a "no-brainer rookie move". Amateur journalism at its peak.

Journalism is such a difficult area to be successful in now that headlines are clickbaity as a survival imperative. It sucks, though.

He’s definitely a cut above at the G-League level. Not unexpected for a 24-year-old, but some guys can’t even do that.

He has a decent chance to be a contributor up here. Certainly a better chance than Klintman. Right now, there’s just zero room for him even as a shooter, because he’s a step below everyone we use in every other aspect. Sasser’s a garbage time guy these days, and he’s a lot like Lanier but with a lot more experience st this level. Actually, that’s probably Chaz’s spot that Sasser is keeping warm. Sasser’s 4th year is already picked up at 5.1 mil, while Chaz’s 2nd year is 2.1 mil. Expect Marcus to dealt either this TDL or next summer.

If we can't have Beasley, Lanier is way better than no shooting off the bench. If Ivey can space the floor like that and can stay healthy, maybe there's no role for Lanier. I think the plan is to move Duncan to the bench eventually if Ivey can get back to playing like he did last year. If that's the case, it's going to make even harder for Lanier to get on the court.
