Check it out it's on the wiretap.
Seems crazy to me.
Basically, the Heat were down by 1 point with 51 seconds left and the Atlanta scorekeepers ejected Shaq even though it was only his 5th foul. The Heat tried to tell them it wasn't his 6th but they ignored the Heat coaches...
So they will be replaying the final 51 seconds of the game on March 8th, the playing their other scheduled game. At least that's what appears is going to happen.

What was the scorekeeper supposed to do? his records showed that Shaq had 6 fouls. Shaq was called for the foul, Horford shot two free throws which put Atlanta up 3... are they going to discount that foul and make it a 1 pt game?
This is so absurd it's ridiculous.
Toronto was screwed out of a win in Atlanta by the same scorekeeper, Toronto protested and Stern let it stand as is. If I am Toronto right now, I am pissed.

This game actually means something to Atlanta, seeing as their actually in the playoff chase. If I'm Atlanta, I play my ass off for 51 seconds.
Atlanta should still fight the decision, and in reality, the outcome should stand, but Miami should be granted some kind of payment from Atlanta or the NBA, an extra pick... trade exception? I don't know.

I don't have a major problem with this and don't really understand why people are so upset about this, aside from it being Miami.
This is obviously over simplifying, but the Hawks cheated and Stern is attempting to rectify the situation.
Put it like this; if the Pistons were in a 1 pt game with 51 seconds left and Chauncey was wrongly removed from the game and we went on to lose would you really care if the other team was fined or not? No. You'd be pissed as hell and demand the league take some meaningful action. That's what Stern did.

Actually, if I were a Heat fan, I'd want the loss and hope it gave me a few more ping pong balls...
If it happened to the Pistons, most people would be pissed because than our starters would have to play 51 more seconds...

The Hawks and Heat must replay the final 51.9 seconds of their game last month because the NBA said the official scorer ruled incorrectly that Shaquille O'Neal fouled out. This will be the first time since 1982 the league has sent teams back on the court for a replay. The Hawks won 117-111 at home in overtime Dec. 19.
The NBA said Friday the replay will be held before the teams' next scheduled game -- March 8 in Atlanta. Play will start from the time after O'Neal's disputed sixth foul. The Hawks also were fined $50,000. The protest is the first granted by the NBA since December 1982, when then-NBA commissioner Larry O'Brien upheld a request for a replay by the Spurs after their 137-132 double-overtime loss to the Lakers the previous month. The Spurs and Lakers finished the game in April 1983, with San Antonio winning 117-114. The Hawks were leading 112-111 in overtime when O'Neal was called for a foul. The scoring table personnel, who are provided by the home team, ruled it was the Miami center's sixth foul, when actually it was only his fifth.

According to the league, the mistake stemmed from a foul with 3:24 remaining in the fourth quarter that was called on Udonis Haslem but was mistakenly credited to O'Neal at the scoring table.

According to the Miami press, Toronto didn't protest it.
Just over a year ago, the Atlanta scoring table failed to record two points on a fourth-quarter layup by Toronto guard T.J. Ford in what turned into a 97-95 loss for the Raptors, in essence making them repeat offenders, although no protest was involved in that discrepancy.

What a spectacle! That will be some interesting 51-second game. How bizarre! It will be right before they play another full game? Do you suppose whoever loses that 51-second game will be deflated for the following game? How will the players warm up for that 51-second game? Should they do a lot more pre-game warm-up? Do you think there will be tons of betting on this tiny game? Will Atlanta be favored because of their lead?
Wouldn't it be great if Shaq fouled out in the first several seconds of the game? Or will Dywyaynye be able to muster up 51.9 seconds of domination? Much fun.
So there is a precedent. I was wondering if this would open up a can of worms, but it doesn't seem to happen often.

I don't know much about sports betting. What happens with bets already paid out for this game? If Miami wins, do they have to give the money back?
Good question, let me check my bet history on bodog to see if I lost any money, haha.
Edit--
Nope, it was the same day as the first Pistons / Celtics game, so I only had money on Pistons moneyline.

Riley also coached the last game replayed under protest. His Lakers lost twice to the Spurs on April 13, 1983, when the teams played the final three seconds of a protested game and then a second game.
The protest stemmed from a Nov. 30, 1982, game won by the Lakers after a controversial double-lane violation call when Norm Nixon intentionally missed a free throw. Bob McAdoo, now a Heat assistant coach, was on the court with the Lakers for the protested game and the one replayed.
''It's hard for me to remember,'' McAdoo said. ``All I remember is us losing two games in one night.''
