Y'know, this board is REALLY bi-polar.

Post#1 » by HeroicKennedy » Sat Jan 19, 2008 3:47 am

A few weeks ago:

"Our bench is great! This is the best bench since the 2003-2004 team!"

Now:

"Joe! Make a trade! Our bench sucks!"

Argh. Don't you people understand that the season is going to have it's ups and downs? That some games our bench will be great, and other nights they will struggle? It's a young bench. Everyone is 28 years or younger sans Lindsey Hunter. They aren't going to be consistent, but they can be good when they're on.

Now, I was one of the few people that thought we should make a trade BEFORE this little bit of struggling we're having. I thought that we had an excess of talent, and could land a good 6th man with it. But please, don't act like the sky is falling everytime we lose. We're still 29-11 (which I believe is still second best in the league). You can start to panic when we're only a few games above .500. The regular season is USELESS for the most part. We should only worry about whether or not the starters are rested enough for the playoffs.

I counldnt agree more some people come on here thinking they know everything and dont realize how long a regular season is and that it has its up and downs. Our Starting backcourt played over 40 mins tonight why dont you tell joe to trade them they couldnt lead us to a victory over the weak kings. Just because you have been posting for a long time doesnt mean you know everything. Our bench is very productive and is KEY to our success whether you like it our not stop complaining everytime a rookie has a bad game. Its getting to the point where if someone who isnt a starter doesnt have a great game they are trash. Its just dumb be patient. We need those guys your beloved starters need some help hints the fact they havent been able to get over the hump that last couple years.

Yes this board is bi-polar.

Along with every other board on RealGM.

Sorry, I just don't see the big deal. Fans get emotional and irrational during games and sometimes post things that are just plain senseless. It happens, message boards provide a means for fans to vent.

Message boards should be a place to have intelligent, thoughtful conversations about a certain subject, not rambling on about how much something sucks or other stupid stuff. If you want to vent, vent intelligently. Not posting "We suck" over and over again.

Of course, this is the internet. Where a man can become famous posting a picture of Sean Connery with a loop of "You're the man now, dog!" playing over and over again.

It would only be "bi-polar" if it was the same posters praising thhe bench last week and condemning it this week. I don't believe that is the case.

The board is made up of many different people with many different view points.
Rip Hamilton is a stain on the Pistons franchise.

It seems like the majority of people were praising the bench during our 11 game winning streak. Which is rightfully so, because the bench was playing pretty well.

However, during the last 7 games, it seems like people have completely soured on the bench. Like it has no chance of it ever being good, and we need to make a trade BADLY.

We've actually seen it play well! It's capable of playing well! It's just that, because it's so damn young and inexperienced, it's not going to be consistent. Which is perfectly fine, because these games don't matter. You want them to work towards consistency, and if it means a few games where they don't play well or don't play much, well, so be it. That's how it works.

I'm usually one to try and put things in perspective and not get to carried away.

But I think it's pretty stupid to call out people for being emotional about their team. Some people live and die with each game or each play. So friggin' what? :dontknow:

In the span of 3 minutes I can go from wanting to trade a guy to wanting them to start. So sue me. I'll reflect back later and put it in it's proper pespective, but in the heat of the moment I'm gonna say some stupid ****. Deal with it.

I never said don't get emotional. I said don't get emotional on a message board. Human emotions are best expressed visually and verbally with other humans in the proximity. If the Pistons win, I'm gonna high-five my friend, not go on a message board and type "YES WE RULE" in all caps. It's completely impersonal and really doesn't feel like you are truly emoting. However, I do see why people do it, because they are excited, and there's nothing wrong with a little happyness. It just gets frustrating when people start posting stupid stuff like "We suck" or "Blow up the team" after every loss.

I also think you should never live and die with a team. To put things in perspective, I was watching game 6 of the 2005 NBA Finals when midway through the game we get a phone call. My uncle had committed suicide. That put everthing in perspective. I used to sometimes cry when the Pistons lost, but I realized after that how the cosmic order of things, the Pistons aren't the end all-be all.

Of course, people have the right to think differently, but it'd be nice to have less knee-jerk reactions (FIRE FLIP/TRADE TAYSHAUN/STUCKEY SUCKS) and more intelligent discussion after wins and losses. That's what I enjoy the most about this board, when we're discussing in a smart manner about what the team has done right, what it can do to improve, and talking about fond memories related to the Pistons.

Being overemotional doesn't violate the rules of this forum in any way.

This thread serves no good purpose.
