Apparently, he thinks March 1st may be too soon for a return.

But the biggest thing is that the Clippers have mentioned that teams are calling about him. So here's the question: can he move while injured, and if he moves, where does he go?

I highly doubt the Clips move Brand. He's injured, so teams are trying to get him at less than good value for him. And I doubt the Clippers want to give away their best big for a low price... bigs are so valuable in this league, and when healthy, a Brand and Kaman combo is as good as any 4/5 combo this league has seen the last few years.

They need to move Magette, get a young point guard and shooting guard.

But if he were available, I'd really hope the Pistons would at least look into what it takes to aquire Brand. He'd instantly be one of the best bigs in the East, and not to mention he's one of my favorite players.

The only problem is that the Clippers are 10 games out of the playoffs, and it's only half-way through the season. Granted, it's because Brand is hurt more than anything, but Elton is a HUGE salary for them to not being playing, not to mention how he will be after coming back from injury. They might deal high-priced players like Maggette and Brand to get low price talent with potential.

And yes, the Pistons should inquire about his availability. I'm guessing that one of those phone-calls was probably from Dumars, but the asking price was probably too high. In fact, I really don't know what we could offer them that they'd want, other than Amir or Stuckey (youngs with loads of potential on cheap salary), expirings, draft picks, and a starter (probably Hamilton). They want a young PG/SG, which could be Stuckey. They'd also want a young PF to potential replace Brand, which would obviously be Amir.

If we wanted him, we'd have to pay at least 75% full value for him.

Something like one of Tayshaun Prince/Rip Hamilton along with Jason Maxiell, expirings and possibly a draft pick.

Also I believe Brand could opt out after this season.

I'd LoOVE BRand on the Pistons, but I don't think it's bloody likely. I'd say less < 1% chance.

Agreed, it'll probably never happen. But we should at least try to make something work, because you know the Clips are looking to send him out East, we don't want him wearing a Cleveland uniform anytime soon... or Chicago.

I don't think they'd want Prince, considering they already have Maggette.

Really, we don't have anything that they would really want other than draft picks (which everyone wants) and younger bench players, all of which aren't enough to land Brand.

I was thinking more along the lines of who will get Brand. Maybe Chicago? The idea of him going to Cleveland turns my stomach. Brand/Lebron would be tough to stop.

Those are the only two I can think of in the East that could make a realistic run at Brand.

It would be a dream. an absolute dream come true. he is soooo good.

But just not going to happen.

I just get the feeling that Brand will be moved in the next 2-3 years. The Clippers seem only good enough to compete for a 7-8 seed in the West. They seem like they'd be better off just loading up on young talent, than making a push 4-5 years from now when the big teams in the West (San Antonio, Dallas, Phoenix) are severly declining.

By the time those teams fall off, Brand would be 33-34 years old.

Besides, they have the 5th worst record in the league. Do they really think that with Brand they'd be serious competitors?

The only reason why the Pistons have such a small chance is because we have so little to offer young talent-wise. Otherwise, Dumars could probably pull off a deal to bring him in.

Wonderful idea but if he opts out next season and Joe D or Mr Davidson dont want to pay him what he wants the Pistons may find themselves dealing him in a sign and trade or trading or another starter to keep him. Remember all our poayers have very moderate salaries.

Love Brand. Would great in Pistons red, white & blue. But very tough to land a guy like that. Even injured his value hasn't depreciated to the point that Sheeds was (and people considered Joe to have gotten a steal).

When healthy Brand is a top 5 PF in the league. 20 & 10, nice defense, good attitude.

You'd have to start by swapping Rip for Mobley then look at including a couple of prospects (Stuckey & Amir or Maxiell) plus some expirings etc. And at that point is it really worth it?

It wouldn't be worth it to either team.

Rasheed was thought to be a talented head case at the time of the trade,sort of the J.R.Rider of power forwards (an incorrect assestment it turns out). Elton is as solid a citizen and teammate as there is in the league and he's a better player IMHO. Never is the correct assestment.

But as big as a headcase as Sheed was, we got him for practically highway robbery. I'm not concerned about comparing Rasheed to Brand. I'm comparing how you can get All-Star level talent for trash, and it is possible to land a good player that way.

There's been enough trades in this league where one team has completely fleeced another, and it's entirely possible for it to happen again.

That being said, the chances of us ever landing Brand = 1.36%.
