John Salmons

Well, the Kings just got Artest, Martin, and Bibby all back. They also have Beno Udrih, Quincy Douby, Francisco Garcia, and Salmons playing the 1-2-3.

They are overloaded on the Wings and Salmons could be the odd man out, he's been playing extremely well this season. Should we look into trying to aquire him to help bolster the bench? He'd instantly become our 6th man. Taking away most of the minutes for Hayes and Afflalo.

He'd instantly cost us expirings, a 1st, and possibly Amir. He only makes the mid-level I believe...

What do ya think?

Salmons has been playing great. Douby and Garcia are more expendable imo.

No. John Salmons was terrible before he came to Sacto. I have to believe hes still not very good, regardless of numbers.

Wrong. Go watch some Kings games or ask any Kings poster. He is playing like an All Star for us when he is starting... But when Artest/Bibby/Martin came back his minutes and etc...lowered... IMO I rather keep and trade Artest JUST to keep Salmons in the starting line up...He is SO underrated and it is not even funny...

Agreed, Salmons is playing at a very high level, granted he's been one of the only good players on the court for a team decimated by injury, but he's a solid player, his numbers aren't a fluke. He's put those numbers up all season long, actually they'd be even better if he was starting all-year.

Artest and Martin really cut into his playing time and effectiveness... but thats what happens when you have a team loaded with solid wings.

Salmons isn't getting enough props here, I know we play in the east and don't see Sacto much, but we should know talent when we see it, and Salmons has it.

He's on my fantasy team though... so that's why I've been following his game pretty closely.

Funny you say that... because Salmons could be that starting small forward...

He's been that solid.

Would love salmons a definite upgrade over that malnourished dude that plays our 3. If u know bball u would know that when salmons gets big minutes he puts up big numbers.

^You also know he's prolly outa our price range. Don't think the Kings will be looking to deal him. At least not until they decide what, if anything they are going to do with guys like Bibby & Artest.

They really gotta take care of those bigger issues first before they can figure out where exactly Salmons fit into their future plans, imo.

I'd certainly like to have the guy though.

If we're going to be a *slower* team we should at least try to refrain from being a shorter one as well.
Rasheed is a PF with a SF's mindset trying to play C. McDyess spends the bulk of his time at C and he's a PF making his living at the elbows. Jason Maxiell is 6'5" and 230 now. If those three are dominating PT in the post, I'd rather have our third front court member either be very long/tall, aggressive, or proficient in the post. John Salmons is none of the three, so far as I have seen.
The luxury of having Tayshaun Prince in the starting lineup, despite his general frailty, is that he's 6'9" with a 7'2" wingspan.

and I also do not trust *came completely out of nowhere on a bad teams* players.

I was more less with you up until that last sentence. People paying attention wouldn't say he came completely out of nowhere. He's been a relatively solid role player each of the past 2-seasons. It's true he's having a bit of a break through year, although part of that has to do with increased minutes and playing a larger part in the offense. Many of the things he's doing this year are things he's done the past few years. He's just doing more of it now. It's not like he was some scrub that came out nowhere and suddenly put up numbers the last month of the season for a bad Bobcats team.

I'm not saying he hasn't improved, but it's not as dramatic as you make it out to be.

I'll admit that I haven't been paying attention to him. All I hear about Sacramento is a) Kevin Martin for the all-star game! and b) where/when will Mike Bibby be traded? and I follow Beno Udrih, who's on my fantasy team.
But I have known who he was since he came into the league. He's received significant minutes and has started a fair share of games between Philly and Sacto. He's just never done anything until this season worth mention. No part of his game had stood out, really. No, he's not a *scrub* because he wasn't some end of the bench guy prior to breaking out in Sacramento. But there's never been evidence that he's anything more than a mediocre role-player.
Hardly dramatic, Hunter. I just had to question the sudden increase in stats, and have chalked up to nothing more than increased minutes on a bad, injury-plagued team. I'll pass.

Well his Philly averages (excluding rookie to even help your point)

03-04: 20 mins, 5.8 pts, 2.6 rbs, 1.7 asst
04-05: 17 mins, 4.1 pts, 2.1 rbs, 2 asst
05-06: 25 mins, 7.6 pts, 2.7 rbs, 2.7 asst

I mean, those are pretty unspectacular numbers on some unspectacular Philly teams with some pretty good minutes. Im still wholly unimpressed.

I said "the past 2 seasons". What he did in '03, '04 or '05 don't particularly concern me.

GJense is right about one thing though; no one part of his game stands out. What has stood out has been his versatility. He's been able to fill in at the 1, 2 or 3 giving his team about 8-3-3 in roughly 26 min of action. He's also a decent defender.
