Will Joe make a trade before the deadline?

Post#1 » by theBigLip » Sat Jan 26, 2008 8:27 am

I'm getting the feeling that we will NOT make any trades. Joe has to be looking at our team and pretty happy with what he sees. If a great deal lands in our laps then maybe, but I just don't see it. Maybe move Flip, but he could come in handy if RIP gets hurt.

It's not like in 2004 that Sheed became available and we got him for practically nothing. We still needed something to get us over the hump. I just don't see it - it is so hard to improve on our starters without giving up a lot to make an improvement there. The bench is looking okay, but if we trade for anyone, that's where we will make a move.

Too bad, cause I like the whole trade deadline gossip, but I just don't see us taking part in any trades this year.

If he does not obtain another big man I see us falling again unless Charles Barkley looses his hands (pun intended) in a card game and Arnie Kander attaches them to the wrists of Mad Max.

Joe is hoping to trade Primo, Hermann, or even Muray or a combination of either two of the three for even a second rounder so he can bring in a big...maybe CWeb. I think that is why CWeb hasnt joined another team. He had quite a few opportunities. Or maybe Joe, like all other contending GMs is waiting for a juicy deal.

I posted today, that Joe spoke to Flip and spoke to him about playing Amir more to see if he could handle it all basically. As Joe wanted to see if he had to bring in another big guy, whether that be Chris Webber or whatever. So far IMO Amir has handle himself quite well in limited minutes. That is the reason we have all seen Amir play more lately.

Well it seems that our trading chips our the expiring contracts of Brezec, Hermann, and Flip plus possibly any future picks.

I think whether or not we make a trade may weigh heavily on how our team plays in the next 4 weeks.

I have seen no indications to this point that Stuckey will be able to make our playoff rotation, so it will be interesting to see if Dumars is content with Hunter being the guy for the playoffs.

It will depend on Amir's play up until the trade deadline. If he shows he can handle the fourth big man duties I think there is a possibility we only make one move- trading away Flip Murray for a second rounder. If he shows he isn't ready I could see us making a move for Kurt Thomas, using our expirings plus our first rounder this year.

I think the Pistons like Herrmann and want to keep him in the fold until they make a decision regarding their back-up SF whether it's Hayes, Herrmann or somebody from outside the organization.

Ideally I think Joe would like to bring in a veteran big man regardless of Amir's play though, as Maxey and Amir are not really play-off battle tested. I still like the Kurt Thomas option, however we'd have to include one of Hayes or Herrmann along with Brezec, Murray and a first rounder to get the contracts to work.
Rip Hamilton is a stain on the Pistons franchise.

Still need a back-up PG, SG and SF.
“[Your English] depends on where you start in the NBA,” said Nesterovic. “I started in Minnesota, he [Brezec] started in Indiana. That’s a pretty tough organization to pick up English.”

Yep

IMO it all depends on how we play during the next 2 weeks but IF someone offered future 2nd rounders for players not getting any burn I think Joe might trade just to free a roster slot.

If you don't think Stuckey will be able to make our playoff rotation I would not be surprised if you and Joe D are watching Lindsey Hunter's new unreleased video entitled ' I still got game' that Ron Artest produced after blowing kisses to the crowd last week

How about Gerald Green? Word is he wants out of Minnesota, and I always thought he was a steal at the number 18 pick Boston had.

He's young, too. He can play both SG and SF.

^^^^
I was just going to say Gerald Green, hes very talented, will bring tons of energy, great 3-Point shooter, he's obviously a high flyer, this guy can dunk, he could be a fan favorite.

Gushing over Gerald Green is allowed but this thread is about trade proposals. Let us hear yours.

Hmmm, reminds of a 'Tales from the Crypt' episode where two compulsive gamblers ended up betting a finger then a hand then... they end up in a mental home still gambling but now have no arms or legs. Ouch!

Green seems to be fairly dumb at the game of basketball though.

Gerald Green for Flip Murray and the 2008 Draftpick.

If we still have the pick, what Minnesota gets:
By all accounts, Green is on his way out in Minnesota, and will be an unrestricted free agent. May as well get something out of it, and a rebuilding team loves draft picks (even if they are late 20's). Also, Flip has a tendency to play well when given major minutes, and Minnesota could do that for him. Who knows, maybe he'll finally be a solid contributor.

What Detroit gets:
Gerald Green, a high flyer who will bring energy off the bench and easily become a fan favorite. Not only that, but he probably would resign with us for the MLE or less, considering he hasn't played that well this season. Detroit really only loses a draft pick in this trade.

More than likely, however, I think the Wolves will want us to take on one of their bad contracts (Walker and Jaric), which I don't think Mr. Dumars or Mr. Davidson would be too happy about.

I didn't have episode in mind when I mentioned Charles. I only said that is because he was doing a TNT game and Mad Max was throwing it down he did not give Kenny Smith any grief when Kenny said "I remember when you used to do that".

I have no argument with this analysis and in addition with Aaron and Stuckey already on the roster can you see the odds of Joe even thinking of Green on our roster at this time are sitting at about 2%
