Okay, I'm sure you've read the Portland - Dallas - New Jersey trade rumor however it looks to be falling apart for a couple reasons - one being Portland is sketchy about trading for an injured Harris (which is crazy since he's an ideal fit for them for the next decade) and the other being NJ doesn't want Stackhouse and wants expiring deals for him instead. You know where I'm going with this -

What about dumping some of our expirings to being Stack back to Detroit. He'd bring the pissed off toughness we need and would definitely push Tayshaun for minutes. Stack is straight up Gangsta.

I would be inclined not to just so Portland doesn't land Harris. That team would dominate for a decade with a backcourt of Harris/Roy and Aldridge/Oden(assuming he lives up to the hype) up front.

Well if both Portland and NJ don't want Harris or Stack maybe we can pull something off to get both of em. Never happen of course but damn.

Time to play with the trade checker

EDIT - I haven't read the rumor so am clueless(what's new?). got link?

EDIT - I did some digging, when a reporter asked Cuban about trading Harris/Stack/+ for Kidd he replied "Step away from your crack dealer".

it would be great to see Stack back in Detroit, I know he has talked about coming back to Detroit in the past and he has always wanted to play with Sheed in the NBA, one thing to remember a player can longer return to the team that traded him after he is waived (like Hunter did in the Sheed deal) so I am sure he would have interest in returning to Detroit

Would he play SG or SF? Or would we see him backup both and Stuckey strictly play at backup PG?
Keep in mind that this depth chart doesn't take into consideration whom we'd give up in a three-team trade:
Billups/Stuckey/Murray
Hamilton/Stackhouse/Afflalo
Prince/Stackhouse/Hayes
McDyess/Johnson/Hermann
Wallace/Maxiell/Brezec
Something like that? If this were straight up (and Dallas was allowed to trade one player for three) we would give them Hunter/Murray/Hermann and sign either Boykins or Payton to be the third PG. But they can't, so I just wasted a paragraph of writing.

I'll admit it: I love depth charts and minute-breakdowns.
It's easier to visualize a transaction this way.

Forget about the minute breakdowns, just get the player first then worry about that later.

^No? Otherwise we could cook up a trade or hypothetically release and sign a player, improving our overally talent level, but have no idea how that'd affect the rest of the team.

I'd rather have 79 yr old Stack backing up rip/tay than Arvis.

If we could give up expirings to get him.... git er dun joe!!

^They'd have to cut two players prior to the trade in a 3-1.
Or we'd have to 4-2, and it'd be Stackhouse/Diop for Brezec/Murray/Hermann/Hunter. We could have them buyout Lindsey or Murray and have him come back to us.

Billups/Stuckey
Hamilton/Stuckey and Stackhouse
Prince/Stackhouse and Jarvis
McDyess/Maxiell
Wallace/Diop
With Amir, Afflalo, Hunter/Murray, and Samb as the deep bench. I LOVE it. We could sign Hudson/Boykins/Payton if Hunter/Murray weren't brought back. That would give us 14-15 players. Dale Davis would be a possibility, then.

With Diop/Amir/Max we wouldn't need Dale Davis.

Of course, this trade only work depending on what Dallas/NJ agree too. Dallas isn't going to give up two rotation players for expirings without a very nice package around Jason Kidd.

C. Billups/R. Stuckey
R. Hamilton/J. Stackhouse/A. Afflalo
T. Prince/J. Stackhouse/J. Hayes
A. McDyess/J. Maxiell/A. Johnson
R. Wallace/D. Diop

I have no idea why Dallas would do this. They give up their two best bench players for nothing...why?

Yeah, Stack was only an option if he was heading to NJ in the three-way involving Portland, NJ and Dallas as it was said NJ didn't want Stackhouse's two remaining years but would rather have expirings.

Because
Harris/Terry/Murray
Jones/Hassell/Ager
Howard/Hermann/George
Nowitzki/Bass/Howard
Dampier/Brezec/Fazekas
is still an extremely good team, possibly improved, and they clear some cap.

^ I don't think Cuban is THAT concerned with capspace. That is not an improved team at all, it is worse.

Stack >>> Herrmann
Diop >> Brezec

Who cares about Murray he is buried there like here.

I thought that a 30 day waiting period is now what happens if the player wants to return to the original team.

The growing feeling among league executives that the Dallas Mavericks are the most likely winners in the Jason Kidd trade sweepstakes is even stronger now. Reason being: Within 24 hours of Kidd saying that it's time for him and the New Jersey Nets "all to move on" in separate directions, New Jersey and Dallas engaged in advanced trade discussions with Portland on a three-way deal that would land Kidd back with the team that drafted him in 1994.

Such a trade would involve at least a dozen players, cash sweeteners and future draft picks. In a breakdown of the most noteworthy principles, Portland would land Mavericks guard Devin Harris and possibly Mavs forward Brandon Bass, New Jersey would receive draft and financial considerations, Dallas' Jerry Stackhouse and a trio of young prospects from Portland (Travis Outlaw, Channing Frye and Jarrett Jack) while the Mavericks would score Kidd.

The talks were very active Tuesday, as reported Tuesday night on ESPN2's "NBA Coast to Coast" by ESPN The Magazine's Chris Broussard. But dialogue between the three clubs had cooled Wednesday to the point that sources close to the situation described them as "pretty much dead." But another source insisted that the deal still has life and noted that the "pretty much" disclaimer leaves open the possibility that the dialogue can be reheated to Tuesday's levels, especially since the league's Feb. 21 trading deadline is still three weeks away. And what most observers considered to be one of the biggest obstacles for New Jersey and Dallas to either moving or acquiring Kidd -- finding the third team they needed to broaden the deal -- might be less of an impediment than anticipated if Portland could be recruited so quickly.

Avery Johnson left little doubt about which way the Mavericks are tilting amid rampant rumors that Jason Kidd is coming to Dallas. His response: Don
