Ok, what teams are having a Fire-Sale, and who can we get?

With the Pau Gasol trade, and the fact that Memphis also dealt Swift and bought-out Damon, it's obvious that they're fire-saling the team.
The question is: what teams are going to Fire-Sale, and can we benefit in anyway?

How about...
1st rounder, Herrmann, Flip Murray, Jarvis Hayes, and Primoz
-for-
Mike Miller
Do it Joe.

The Lakers had that expiring Brown contract to deal. We have some contracts like that too, but when we acquired them, people here pointed out that we will need the cap space that will come when those contracts expire to re-sign some of our players. With this long-term goal in mind, can we afford to trade those contracts away? Then again, it's now or never, baby. How fast is Mike Miller?

How is Miller's D? Must be better than Jarvis.

Here's one that works in the checker.
Detroit trades Prince, Brezec, Herman, and Flip Murray
Detroit gets: Ben Wallace and Loul Deng
Why for Chicago? Rids them of Ben Wallace's terrible contract, saves them a ton of money, prevents them from having to give an unhappy Deng tons of money to stay this offseason. Prince is a solid replacement for Deng and will come much cheaper than what Deng reportedly wanted, $60 million over 5 years...
Why for Detroit? There may be no where Ben would produce better than back in Detroit, but the real reason to do it would be to get Deng who is a young up and coming star in this league. This would put Detroit way up into the luxury tax though so who knows whether or not its worth it.

That's exactly why we wont be making any major trades before the trade deadline. I just don't see Bill D approving going over the lux tax threshold unless it's for a player who will significantly upgrade the team. Most of the players you kindly listed are good players but are overpaid with long contracts.
However, I would LOVE it if we could someone nab Kurt Thomas.

Deng would be sweet, but Chicago doesn't want to trade him, seemingly. I know he gets good numbers, but I've only seen him play a handful of times. How good is he? Who would you compare him to? Does he improve every year?

Apparently the Bulls intend to keep both Deng & Gordon. they could have traded one & other expirings & got Gasol.
Paxson does have a love fest with the players that he has drafted - and to date has never traded a draft pick (other than swapping positions on draft day) or a free agent signing.
That said - I would do bstein's trade. It helps both teams.
Will paxson do it? probably not

Like I said on the Bulls board. Prince > Deng. Why people consider Luol as an up and coming superstar is beyond me. He is not suited to be the first option, and was hihgly overrated following a good series against a decripit Miami team. Deng is a really good role player, but a role player none the less. He offers nothing that Tay doesnt offer + Tay is the better defender.
Now onto Ben. He has openly criticized FLip Saunders since becoming a Bull. There is no way that I want him back to continue to criticize Saunders and create a riff in the lockerroom. Wallace is a bit of a whiner and I truly believe that he created lockerrom issues for Detroit and now for Chicago. There is now way he is worth his contract.
How about a trade for the Sonics for Chris Wilcox or Collison or with Memphis for Darko? Murray, Brezec, Hermann for Wilcox, Collison, or Darko. Sonics have a plethora of bigman with potential in Wilcox, Collison, Petro, Sene. Not all of them can be in there plans. Detroit could offer them more capspace to continue rebuilding around their core of Durant, Green, 08 first, . The same goes for Memphis, they are clearly in the rebuilding era and will build around Conley-Gay-08 first. Both ballclubs could use the extra cash to go after a young 08 FA to fill a void in their roster. Id even be willing to throw in Maxiel if needed.
Detroit becomes
Billups/Stuckey/Hunter
Rip/Afflalo/Stuckey
Tay/Hayes/Afflalo
Dice/Johnson
Sheed/Wilcox or Collison or Darko
Detroit gets a legitmate C with some upside left to match up with instead of playing small.

Well its been reported that the Bulls offered Ben Wallace for Kwame + Radmanovic so Ben is almost certainly up for grabs
I agree tho it'd be stupid to take him back unless we were getting a tremendous amount of young talent with him.

Well, who do we need to extend?
Maxiell has a team option left, right?
Rasheed, McDyess, Billups, Hamilton, and Prince all have two years or more left.
Afflalo, Stuckey have rookie contracts.
Amir just signed a 3 year deal.
Prezec, Hermann, Hunter, Dupree, Hayes, Murray are all expiring and none will be extended more than likely.
So really, I see us being able to make a trade and stay under the luxury tax, plus if we decided to resign Rasheed, it'll probably be 2-3 million less than what he's making right now.

Next year is Sheed's last season under contract, and it can be Dice's too if we decide.
So Next year is really the only year we are looking at paying the tax.
Next year the starters make about $51 million.
Amir, Max, Afflalo, Stuckey, Samb and a 1st make about $11 million
So we're at $62 million with the tax projected to be at $68 million or so which means we'd have just enough to use the MLE.
If we make a trade now, it might mean we won't be able to use the MLE without going into the tax.

Kurt Thomas is the one that interests me most because I still think we need to upgrade that position in our line-up. I think Hayes is fine in his role and we don't need to over-pay for a bench upgrade at that position.

Miller would be tight to get, but we don't want him long-term and we should trade him the next year. He makes too much money for a back-up.
His scoring would be great, he's like Jarvis++.

yeah I'd do mike miller for hermann, brezec, hayes, flip murray, and a 1st rounder also. Miller would obvioulsy be coming off the bench with the pistons. He came off the bench one year and was sixth man of the year.

What's our MPG average if we get Mike Miller?
I would hate to see Afflalo's minutes just disappear.
SF:Prince(30)/Miller(18)
SG:Rip(34)/Afflalo(14)
PG:Billups(34)/Stuckey(14)
