pietrus-hermann deal in the works

Post#1 » by rly723 » Sun Feb 3, 2008 6:37 pm

(DetFP) Golden State GM Chris Mullin is reportedly inquiring about the availability of Argentian and recently acquired 6'10 Power Forward Walter Hermann. Hermann who was recently acquired by the Pistons together with Primoz Brezec via trade with the Charlotte Bobcats is a seldom used Power Forward who was originially drafted by the San Antonio Spurs. He had his most productive stint with the Bobcats and has shown his ability to play inside and step back to hit the long distance shot.

Chris Mullin is reportedly offering Mikael Pietrus who has been out of favor with coach Don Nelson. Pietrus who hails from France and was formerly the Warriors first round pick can be a significant reliever to forward Tayshaun Prince.

Hermann meanwhile can only be traded after February 14.

Per Request of the board, this rumor is not from the Detroit FP and is apparantly untrue. Take it as such, and next time post links.

Pietrus has a really low BBIQ, but at this point, I would do it. He's a more well-rounded player than Arvis.

Herrmann/Murray for Pietrus works.

C. Billups/R. Stuckey/L. Hunter
R. Hamilton/A. Afflalo/M. Pietrus
T. Prince/J. Hayes/M. Pietrus
A. McDyess/J. Maxiell/A. Johnson
R. Wallace/P. Brezec

Pietrus is much more gifted athletically and I think he could be an option off the bench to play decent D on guys like Lebron, Kobe, Jefferson, Butler, etc in the playoffs.

I'd do this trade if it was just an even flip.

Pietrus is dumb. He is not an upgrade over Hermann or Jarvis. So I dont see why Dumars does this unless Golden State throws in a 2nd rounder or something

Successful Trade Scenario
Congratulations on a successful trade.

Due to Golden State and Detroit being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. Golden State and Detroit had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

I hope ur joking with that trade. Afflalo is the best player in teh deal. I think Pietrus is trash, as is Obryant.

From his stats, it looks like he mostly takes three point shots (109 out of 196 shots were threes--source: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=3714). Isn't Hermann just as capable from three-point range? Is Pietrus a better defender? I remember people proposing him as a possible SF acquisition at the beginning of the season, but I'm not familiar with his game. Why do we want him over Hermann? What's his contract like?

Both expirings. MP makes 3.5, WH makes 1.95

Maybe add in muarry & gs adds in a 2nd or 2. A option to switch 1sts. IDK

Muarrys still a decent insurance policy & we already got a few 2nd rd picks. Herrmanns probably asking to be traded since he gets no playing time & that was a major concern in cha when he was getting 10-15 mpg.

Mullin likes Herrmann because of the D he played on Nowitzki. We're not playing him here, but Herrmann isn't raising a stink either. Pietrus will want playing time we don't have to give. Also Pietrus is going to Miami for the MLE this off-season, his big thing is that he wants PT. So we'll have nothing to show for this trade. Maybe include Brezec and POB, but even then POB is unrestricted this off-season as well.

We can't trade Herrmann or Brezec for another week anyways, so it's not like it's imminent. There is interest for Pietrus from other teams, maybe we could get a three-way deal put together.

I find myself completely without an opinion on this rumored deal.

Herrman is a benchwarmer and theres no indication that he wont stay that way, but I dont think Pietrus actually makes us any better either.

I can't imagine Joe would actually have turned down Hermann/Flip for Pietrus. There's got to be more to this.

Pietrus might have the bball IQ of a gerbil, but he's a better shooter and a better defender than Jarvis. He's long and athletic and a much better option on Pierce & LeBron than any of our other backups. And if you're just going to camp him in the corner he's a better option there as well.

Flip won't play Herrmann at the 3, even not against Nowitzki today...what makes you think he will play Pietrus at the 3? he can't shoot very well...

Well if it is phony news, I think a banning is in order.

I don't even think Herrmann was drafted by the Spurs...

Pietrus is actually a pretty solid shooter. His problem has more to do w/ shot selection. He shot 39% from 3 last year and is shooting 36% this year, although not playing as much.

C'mon, we're talking about Hermann & Flip - two guys completely out of the rotation. What could it possibly hurt? It's very low risk. If he doesn't improve our bench we're no worse off and have no financial commitment.

Hermann is fun to watch in garbage time tho. I don't know if I can give that up :)
