It is according to Rotoworld and some reporter in Miami. I don't know why in the hell PHX would do something like this unless this is their answer to the Gasol to LA move. Shaq is the antithesis of a PHX player as they are currently constructed.

This makes absolutly no sense for Phoenix, Shaq can't even put up 20&10 anymore, he's a liability on Defense, run and gun is dead when if they trade for Shaq, they sure have a lot of 3 point shooters, but they're overall D suckz too much to go from a run and gun team to a half court only team....

PHX supposedly approached Miami about it. The theory is that Kerr hates the up-tempo run and gun and feels this would force the team to play half court or something like that. D'Antoni should quit on the spot if this trade does happen.

Miami probably hopes Marion would opt out so they could be players in the FA market. Say target Okafor to be their new man in the middle, along with their lotto pick this year and Wade they could make a quick rebound. Hell or they could keep Matrix for one more season if he wants to stick around - helluva boobie prize that would be.

OK.... here is how I see it.

Not a great trade for the Suns by any means, but not a terrible one IF reports that Marion wanted out of Phoenix this summer were true.

Having Shaq is better than having Marion opt out and sign elsewhere this summer for nothing.

Shaq can't bring it all season long, but Phoenix is good enough that they don't need that from him.

Phoenix also gets rids of Banks bad contract in this.

I think a motivated Shaq in the playoffs is still a threat to some teams out West, and a Nash, Bell, Hill, Amare, Shaq lineup is pretty solid.

I could see Miami giving up $3 mil cash, Shaq and their 08 2nd rounder and that might be enough IMO.

If Marion is happy where he's at and they think he'll resign with Phoenix for considerably less than he's making now, then this trade doesn't make sense for Phoenix

Shaq makes no sense in Phoenix, and taking on those big bucks for a guy who doesnt isnt a Phoenix style move.

Stein and Bucher said on ESPN this rumor makes no sense for Phoenix, which I totally agree. That would certainly change the look for Phoenix.

One place where there could be a real trade would be Dallas. They have the high-salaried contracts that could make a deal work. Miami should do it just to get smaller pieces and maybe Diop or Dampier to replace Shaq.

Yeah...I don't see the team with one of the most frugal owners and fastest-paced offenses going for one of the slowest and most over-paid players. If they were that eager to trade for an impact piece, they could have just gone for Pau Gasol now or made a bigger push for KG last off season.

If this goes down, Phoenix is pretty much saying "you know what? Run and gun just isn't going to do it anymore, so lets turn things around 180 degrees smack-bad in the middle of the season and run a methodical, half-court oriented offense." All kidding aside, if this is legit, they are probably planning on continuing run-and-gun with Diaw in the starting line-up and bringing Shaq in when they need to play a slower tempo. This could work but defensively, it does nothing to solve their inability to guard dominant big men because Shaq definitely can't help much in that area anymore.

I DO think its very possible Miami brought up the idea of getting Shaq to Phoenix and Kerr shot down the idea quickly.

Again though, why the hell would anyone want Shaq? Have people been watching games from this year or 3 years ago? He is washed up and really pretty useless now. And for 2 years after this at 20 (!) mil. a pop, jesus no.

The Miami Heat's season has come to this: Shaquille O'Neal may be on the trading block. Citing two sources close to the situation, the Miami Herald reported on Tuesday that the team has told the center that he should be prepared for a possible deal. A confidant of the 14-time All-Star center told The Associated Press on Tuesday night that O'Neal is ready for the Heat to trade him. "Shaq thinks something will happen," the associate said. The Herald goes on to report that a trade of O'Neal to the Phoenix Suns for Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks has been discussed. One of O'Neal's representatives told the newspaper that they were informed that talks with Phoenix were ongoing and serious.

ESPN.com's Marc Stein reports that this scenario has been rumored for a week, but it will not work without major modifications due to financial restraints. Sources say the Suns are considering scenarios, however. The Heat have a league-worst 9-37 record and have lost four straight. O'Neal has missed the last six games with a sore left hip. Heat coach Pat Riley said on Tuesday that O'Neal will undergo an MRI. ''We just want to back it up and see, after two weeks, what it shows,'' Riley said, according to the Herald. O'Neal led the Heat to the 2005-06 championship, but he is averaging a career-low 14.2 points per game, while adding 7.8 rebounds in 32 games this season. Trading O'Neal would open considerable salary cap room for Miami, which is due to pay the 35-year-old $20 million in each of the next two seasons.

This trade will destroy Phoenix and Miami will stay in free fall.
