Okay, we've seen that Shaq may be traded, and that might be not just to make the Suns better (questionable) but also to keep Shaq away from Dallas.

Question is, is there someone that we should pick up that may seem like a lateral move, but might take someone out of play for our competitors? A perfect example of this would be to make a trade with the Clippers for Cassel, prevent him from going to Boston. Any thoughts on this kind of strategy?

Well, I think we'd be looking at our competitors as Boston first, and then Cleveland.

I don't think we really need to worry too much about the West til we make it to the finals. Let them worry about moves they're making.

Boston's options are really limited because they have 3 players making huge sums of money. If they were to make a move, it'd likely be signing a player who had been waived.

As far as Cleveland goes, if they could get the right player to throw into that lineup with Lebron it could really bring them back into contention of getting out of the east.

I wouldn't mind getting Sam Cassel as a rental, but it would have to be something like this;

Hunter (and him getting cut like the 'Sheed trade), Murray, Hayes (and a 2nd round pick or something like that) to the Clippers for Cassel.

Now, you can look at that and see whats wrong with it. But thats what I would look for.

Sam gives the team a playoff tested backup PG, who also screws Rodney over for the time being, without really giving up anything of value.

I'm more concerned what other eastern teams may do as the trade deadline approaches, i just hope Joe is a step ahead. Especially with Boston having reports that they have had interest in getting Cassell, IMO he would be a valuable asset for their playoff run.

What's the point of having Lindsey come back if Rodney, Cassell, AND Billups are ahead of him?
That would effectively remove Afflalo from the rotation, as well. Perhaps even from the active roster.

Who else is still on the block? That could come out East?

Jason Kidd going to another Eastern team?
Jermaine O'Neal going to another Eastern team?
Brad Miller, Mike Bibby, or Ron Artest?
Jason Terry?
Al Harrington? Or Biedrins? One of them has to go to the bench to make way for Webber.

I have no problem with the C's getting Cassell... the old slower vets (like Payton, Cassell) cause us less problems than the young quick PG's (Gibson, Rondo).
No trades for a PG... hopefully this year Stuckey is our own lil disrupter.

We are good enough to win a title the next 3 years.

We need to focus on our current guys staying motivated & not acting like they are gods gift.

Other teams that are making moves are trying to catch up to to SA, Det, & Bos.

We could try to get him (if we arent sold on Stuck come playoff time), but I doubt we could compete with the appeal of playing with the Celtics and KG.

agreed, plus Cassel is Billups_lite, doesn't really being anything different to our team. We don't need anymore saavy vets, we need energy change of pace hungry guys.

We may not need someone at all, just trying to disrupt the plans of our competition. We do have Brezec, Herrmann and Flip's expiring deals, so we could do something if needed. At least be negotiating to raise the price - that would be a good GM move. Denver could also use Cassell, as could Orlando, and the Celtics don't have much to trade, so that might not happen anyway.

Just thought this might be an interesting strategy to take.

Spurs could sure be looking into a move now, especially after both the Lakers and Suns added pieces this week. Reports now are the Spurs may make a aditional move other then the move they already made when they signed Damon Stoudamire.

Spurs don't have many quality trade pieces, though I do believe they have some expiring contracts. I think they're after Mike Miller right now.

I still believe we'll land Kurt Thomas at the deadline. We luck out in that Cleveland and Boston really don't have any pieces that they could trade for significant upgrades. I think Cassell could be bought out and end up signing on there, but I can't see them making any moves. They already don't have any depth, and dealing for a starting-capable point guard would cost them 2-3 back-up players ot make the salaries match. Cleveland has nothing except an ugly Larry Hughes contract.

I think we should make a move to shore up for a EC run though. Brezec, Murray and one of Herrmann/Hayes is useless to us come playoff time and walk as free-agents after the year.

Would Pistons fans do a multi-team deal that has Artest and Mihm going to Detroit for Amir and McDyess?

Last thing i read about the chances of Cassell being bought out were very slim, from the owner of the Clippers.

I believe that the Spurs could have some interest in getting Herrmann, there was something written about about a week or so ago, but i think it was from a Spurs fan.
