Rodney Stuckey
Just wanted to get Pistons Fans opinions on him.
How many years until you think he gets real significant time in the Pistons backcourt? 20+ mpg
What are his strengths, his weaknesses?
Will he ever develop into a big time scorer in this league? In 3 years, what kind of numbers should we expect out of him? I know its hard to judge now, but just wanted to get a sense of what you guys might predict...
Any other information about him would be nice.
Thanks, and sorry if my questions seem dumb...I dont get to watch too many Pistons games, and obviously even if I do, Stuckey isnt getting much more than 10mpg yet.

April 2008???! 3 of the last 4 games he has played 20+ minutes and never under 15, Flip mentioned him getting close to 25 mpg right before the season started and he has played better then expected especially with missing 25 games due to a broken hand. Weakness being a rookie and missing 25 games, strengths being he has a boatlaod of talent and just has to learn the NBA.

The best guard off the bench in a Detroit Uniform since Vinnie Johnson
Zeke-Dumars-Vinnie 2 rings as a three guard unit. Didn't look up other stats, didn't have to I saw them before Al Gore invented the internet.
Dumars played the point when he was on the floor with Vinnie
Rodney has been rushed into primary duty as a backup for Chauncey because for some odd reason Lindsey just doesn't cut it but don't look on this forum to find any evidence of that tidbit.
Rodney sometimes plays with Rip but that is a disaster when Mr McNice and Mad Max are on the floor with that combo and this board goes wild and says that Stuckey looks lost and confused and is no better than Flip Murray who was never a point anyway.
Rodney is 6'5" tall and excels at beating his man off the dribble and finishing. He had troubles earlier in the year because he has 3 pins in his hand and swelling and tenderness caused some issues but according to a few in this forum that was an excuse and we needed to pick up rejects from other teams or trade him quickly so that we could continue to watch Lindsey Hunter excel in the playoffs.
Rodney played real well upon a two month layoff because of a broken hand but struggled two weeks later when he was standing at the top of the key waiting for the 'plays learned from practice' to develop.
Lately when playing lesser competion Chauncey throws up a bunch of points in the 1st period so Stuckey gets a chance to come in with a big lead and has enabled Chauncey to rest in the 4th quarter.
When out on the court with that bad teammate who this Forum has been counting the minutes until he is traded he is able to direct an attack with 3 other bench players that cause people to go Ooooooo
Joe D drafted him and I KNOW that he will be wearing a Pistons uni for a long time but what does that clown know, he only managed to turn Darko who was and is an immature baby into Stuckey while managing to never mess with his 'core' and keep his BOSS happy.

1. He's already receiving 20+ mins a game.
2. Strenghts: Gets to the rim at will, good defender, good court vision, great running the fast break
Weaknesses: has trouble finishing, jumpshot needs work, doesnt work as well in slow tempo, overdribbles
3. He definately has teh skills to become a bigtime scorer in this league. His ability to get to the rim is astounding and once he develops a jumpshot he is goign to be very very hard to shop.
4. Its hard to extrapolate numbers in 3 years but I think by then he should be the starting PG and Billups should be coming off the bench in the last year of his deal. I think he will be getting around 18 points, 6 assists, 4 rebounds

lets be fair though, a big factor in his minutes increasing are that we are blowing out teams and increasing garbage time. I think he means, on a regular consistent basis, regardless of what's happening in the game. Can Stuckey get 20 minutes in a hotly contested all the way through game against the Celtics for instance? I'm not so sure he'd get it but i dunno he might be close. So I'll say if he continues to improve, next season he could reach that plateau.

Rodney Stuckey is a combo guard. He is better manning the two and has the size and musculature at 6'5 and 205lbs to play there. He can use his strength and quickness to beat his man off the dribble and wills himself to the hoop. The problem is he is not a super athlete and has trouble finishing at the rim against a contesting shotblocker. He is improving in that area.
His jumpshot beyond the free throw line is an adventure. His rotation changes frequently.
He is a decent man defender but can get lost in transition and finds himself out of position a lot. His young legs allow him to play the passing lanes and poach.
He is developing into a good setup man on the move with a penetrate and dish or an alley oop but he really struggles in the half court. He doesn't have the crispness to his passes to catch a teammate in rhythm. He gives it to them once they're all the way open and the defence has reset instead of hitting their hands on the move so they can go straight on the attack.
His decision making is also very suspect and his ability to handle top notch pressure is not so certain. He can look very good against a blown out team like the Bobcats but his battle with Wade (not a great man defender) demonstrated just where his athleticism is (not overwhelming) and that he may get a little star struck (Wade is his idol.)

First of all, anybody who believes that he's actually 6'5" is fooling themselves.
Second, most of what has been said is true. He's showing flashes of his true skills (good one-on-one ballhandling skills, ability to get to the rim, decent on-ball defnese).
He'll be a 20+ minute player from here on out, IMO. In his prime, I think that 18/6/4 is as good as you could expect.

With Rip and Billups starting, they are going to get at least 34 to 35 MPG.
At the very best, if Stuckey can prove he deserves all the minutes at the backup PG/SG positions, Stuckey could get 26-28 MPG next season.
That's just the most I could possibly see being there, and I'm sure most Pistons fans here would love that.
That would push Afflalo to backup SF minutes only.

There is a reason I brought his name up as a possible draft choice way back in April. I think he has the talent, will, and eagerness to improve and make it to an All Star level a couple years down the road.
I'm biased though see avy and sig.
The kid is gonna be a long time Piston's baller.
Here are 3 words I hope to hear many times over...
STUCKEY TO AMIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well he is as tall as Raja Bell, Devin Brown, and Maurice Evans and all those players are listed at 6'5", there are others who are listed @ 6'4" I have seen for sure he is taller then. In NBA terms he is 6'5" for sure.

NBA heights don't mean anything. Just subtract an inch or two for shoes and maybe media. I know when I send in player heights for my girls when dealing with college coaches any point who is 5'2 and under gets listed at 5'3. It makes a difference because nobody will come see a 5'0 point guard but they will for 5'3.

Its hard to compare from pictures, but just from looking at pictures of these guys compared with other Pistons Stuckey looks like he's just barely taller than Billups... He looks about two inches shorter than Afflalo.
Again its hard to say for sure. Afflalo is listed at 6'5" and he is clearly taller than Stuckey.

Joe D is 6'3" both Stuckey and Afflalo look taller then him, Afflalo closer to 6'6" then and Stuckey clearly 6'5"

When Billups is out of the game and he talks to Stuckey at the sideline Stuckey has bent over a bit to listen to him so he look at the very least a good 2 inches taller then Billups. It's barely but it is almost a true two inches.
