2008 FA's, Give these players contracts!

Post#1 » by bstein14 » Wed Feb 13, 2008 3:03 am

Ok, here's a list of some good young 2008 Restricted Free Agents.

Most of these guys will sign 5 or 6 years deals I'd assume.

Here they are.

Give me contract length (years) and total $ value.

What do you think they will get???

Josh Smith

Emeka Okafor

Luol Deng

Ben Gordon

Andris Bierdrins

Andre Iguodala

Jose Calderon

Carlos Delfino

Paul Millsap

Call me crazy, but Smith is not worth the Max. He seems to be more about highlights/numbers than he is about winning games. Not saying he's not a very talented player, but a team with 2 max players (JJ, Smith) and a bunch of good young players (Marvin, Chill, Horford, etc) should be better than the Hawks. Smith should get about 5 years, 60 mil.

Been preaching this a bit, but how do you think someone like Josh Smith would do a real winning situation. A Phoenix, Dallas, Lakers, Pistons situation, surround by vets and winners, a real positive atmosphere.

Not saying he would demand max value in these situations, but do you think he would be more highly thought of if he was 3rd man to a succesful team rather than second man to a struggling team?

The dude averages 3 blocks and 2 steals each game. I think he would do ok as the third or fourth guy.

One question for you.... If tay got nearly 10 mill per year, How much is Smith worth? Probably more than 10 mill per year! And starting around 11-12 mill. Basically a max deal.

One point is that Philly seems to be the only team with cap space so if any of these guys are expecting to get more than the MLE they better get it from their own teams. Not a strong position to be in for the players.

Josh Smith 11.5M per year

Emeka Okafor 10.5M

Luol Deng 10.5M

Ben Gordon 9M What's the market for a 6'1" shooting guard? On a winning team at best I think he's a 6th man.

Andris Bierdrins 9.5M

Andre Iguodala 11M

Jose Calderon 7.5M

Carlos Delfino 3.5M
