According to the report, several league sources said the NBA will consider forbidding Stackhouse to re-sign with the Mavericks this season as punishment for public comments the forward made on Wednesday that suggested tampering could have occurred.

David Stern finally doing something and this is not about the Jason kidd trade or any of that I think it's a great idea so that teams won't be able to trade players to equal cap and have them bought out in the plan of the trade and get that player back, I just think that's wrong and not fair to the other teams in the NBA. He finally does something good!

This sort of circumvention will continue to go on until David Stern a) relaxes the salary equivalencies even more or b) scraps the whole idea and goes with a trade approval committee.

If New Jersey wants Devin Harris, Devean George, DaSagana Diop, and two first-rounders for Jason Kidd, so what if the salaries don't match up? If Devean George refuses to be dealt, it's STILL in New Jersey's favor to make the swap of Kidd for Harris/Diop/Firsts. A trade approval committee would see that, from a talent perspective, New Jersey wins the deal even if they have to take back fewer contracts/less salary.

Yeah, that sounds right, I just don't see the cap space being changed if not at all at least for a long time.

im no cap guru by any means but didnt the pistons do this with hunter or campbell i believe a while back.

Boston waived Lindsey right off the bat and we re-signed him, but Elden got picked up off of waivers by the Nets before they jettisoned him and we got him back.

The Nets did not jettison him. They had him on the end of the bench and IMO Thorn was keeping him only to not let him resign with Detroit.

In reading articles written by journalists with credibility Mr D and other owners had a discussion that may have included David Stern about the Nets intentions and The Big Easy was a Piston again 8 days later.

if this is true i cant have a complaint about what the mavs are doing then it just dosent seem fair. its not like this wasnt known it just wasnt spoken of.

If salaries didnt have to match in trades, the divide between teams who would spend more and those that couldnt would increase with greater ease.

If you want the NBA to be like MLB, relaxing salary matches on trades would be a good place to start....

I don't want in New York Yankees, or Boston Red Soxs in the NBA who buy they way to success even the tigers. I like the NBA's way better you depend on your young players who you trade for and you sign from free agency.

I think this kills the trade. I'm not sure if it can get done without Stack's salary. Even if he doesn't come back, I don't think the Nets want his salary on their books. Way to mouth off, Stack.

Stack might have known that the Nets wouldn't follow through on the buyout and he would have been forced to play out his contract on a lotto team.

Think it, but don't publicly say it.

Looks like they arent gonna let him go back if he gets traded.

He'll either catch on somewhere else or retire.

There's nothing to stop this type of prearranged deal from going on unless it is specifically talked about. That's what makes Stackhouse talking so mind-boggling. Anyway, what's the point of having a rule that is so impossible to prove (unless someone is foolish enough to say they did it)? If you don't want this to happen, then prohibit players from going back to their original team within the season. If you don't care, scrap the rule. It's that easy, Stern.
