On paper it looks good, getting a young center for expiring deals, but I think we're better off skipping that. Will Amir be able to play center full time in the future? If so, then we don't need Darko back.

I would expect Joe to be able to do something with the expiring deals, just don't think that is going to be the deal.

Would that be enough time for him to a) learn to love the Pistons again (or, for the first time?), or b) develop to the point that we'd be alright with extending his 7.5 mil final season?
He's averaging 7 and 6 (but 2 blocks) in 25 mpg. That's not good enough, especially when it's coming from a bad team.

Some people think that what Detroit Basketball gets from Mr Nice at over 6.5 million on a GREAT team is not the best use of Mr. D's money either. I'm tired of seeing him roll layups off the rim at point blank range or throw passes out to guards at the 3 point line while standing under the basket.

I'll leave the debate of 'stats' for others.

Pretty sure Darkos been averaging around 10 and 10 since Gasol was traded. He is still only 22, and seems to finally be putting the pieces together. I do this deal in an instant. Even if you dont like Darko you ahve to admit he is an upgrade over Brezec.

Detroit doesnt need any more PF's what they need is a legit C that can play every night to match up with some of the big guys. Darko can be that guy

Follow up deal would be Jason Maxiel, Detroits 08 first(29) to Golden State for Austin Croshere and the Warriors #1 (20). Detroit moves up in the draft and has a better shot at landing Chris Douglass Roberts, Tyler Smith or another SF.

This isn't the same 19 year old with no real game experience... for that package?... of course... Memphis wouldn't though.

It would be nice to have five functional big men. Right now we have Wallace and McDyess, both can play the four and the five (sometimes a pinch for McDyess). Then we have Maxiell, an undersized four who is a bit streaky as a player. I'm impressed by his shot blocking ability, but I'm not sure how dependable he is on D when he has to cover a 6'11" 260 pound player. Then we have Amir Johnson, who also has impressive shot blocking and rebounding ability. But, again, I'm not sure we can count on him to effectively cover a 6'10", 260 pound player for extended periods.

After those four guys, we have Brezec, or maybe play Hermann at power forward. Injury or foul trouble to Wallace, or even to McDyess, would serious hamper our team. Can Maxiell and Johnson fill in consistently yet? The 8-ball says it's not clear. Darko is not great, but I don't think he's making a ton of money, either, relatively. He would certainly be a defensive upgrade over Brezec, though, wouldn't he? He could play starter's minutes if Wallace of McDyess went down, too. I'd rather have him than Brezec.

I'm not sure Dumars wants to give up those expirings, though, as he may need that salary cap space to re-sign players.

I dont think Darko has the work ethics to be a Piston. He is just another soft Euro. I wouldnt touch him if I were Joe. In the off-season get someone to work with Amir...teach him how to paly center.

I think if Memphis decides to trade Mike Miller for expiring contracts, that they may also consider moving Darko.

He's makes a decent amount of change, and he just doesn't seem to be a starting caliber center on a great team.

Orlando did let him walk for nothing. Memphis has been one of the worst teams in the league this year.

They could have considerable cap to go after some big name FA's this summer if they were to rid themselves of the contracts of Mike Miller and Darko.

Memphis is not going after big named FA's this summer, there is only one, Brand and the Clippers can offer him more money than anyone else.

Darko would get a lot less playing time here than he got in Memphis. That would conjure up bad memories of being the human victory cigar, and he would revert to his old ways (if he ever changed at all). He doesn't do enough - he's not efficient at all. He wouldn't be comfortable back in front of Detroit fans. There are a thousand reasons to say no. I'd rather the Pistons save the money on the expirings than do this deal.

Amir and Maxiell are both better than Darko. This would do nothing but cause problems.
