The one thing this team seems to really be lacking when you look at who will be in the playoff rotation is a legit center.

Someone who can bang against some of the other bigs we might run into in the playoffs.

We had Nazr as that guy but we had to move him. We don't have that Eldon Campbell, Dale Davis, Ben Wallace type player.

Is that the one piece we're missing? Or do you think that we don't need a legit center?

We need another big man.

It sure would be nice if we had one but I think we could handle our business If Joe D throws out Flop's playbook when the playoff's start.

Honestly this is how I see our playoff rotation right now.

Sheed(38)/Max(10)
Dice(36)/Max(12)
Prince(38)/Hayes(10)
Rip(38)/Afflalo(10)
Billups(38)/Stuckey(10) (Perhaps Hunter some nights)

The starters will probably get about 6 minutes rest in the first half and 4 in the second half. Maybe a few extra for Dice. I think unless Amir fixes some of his foul problems and 3 second calls he'll likely not be in the playoff rotation because Flip likes mistake free bball.

I'm not sure Max is going to be good enough up front against some of the bigger front lines so play the role of getting most minutes off our bench.

By legit center I'm guessing someone that'll be able to keep Big Z out of the paint. If thats the case, Primo looks is big enough and capable enough that if we're struggling out there with Z's offensive rebounding, we can plug him in for a stretch for the sole purpose of pushing Z outside the post.

But to be honest I don't think we're going to have much of a problem with big guys come playoff time. Dice and Sheed will do a descent on Z and I don't intend on seeing shaq in the finals.

Not really we're very deep big man wise, I just wonder how we going to guard the superstars that we meet, they pretty much out "size" Tayshaun.

How did Tayshaun get into the discussion of legit centers

I think the comment about Tay is legit, although maybe needs to be in another thread, but is a big backup center to guard Big Z, and someone in the Fianls, more importnat than getting Tay help guarding Lebron and Pierce?

I think that depends on what you think Aaron Afflalo brings to the table.

He is better defensively at the wings than anyone we had coming off the bench last year.

Delfino was guarding James at times when Prince was out.

Rip has improved his D too. Perhaps him playing less minutes allows him to exert more energy on D???

I think the trio of Prince, Rip, and Afflalo will be pretty solid again opposing wing players defensively.

If we trade for someone who can play better D than Hayes we're likely going to lose his shooting, which when he's on can be pretty important.

Right now, which 3 players don't make the playoff rotation?

Samb, Flip, and Hermann???

Every thread should be about getting Tay help even when others start threads about other topics according to some.

Trade Brezec and Flip for Pietrus and then sign Dale Davis. We get a perimeter player to help with our defense on players like Pierce or Lebron and we get the big bruising center to help clog the paint. I still have fond memories of watching the Maxiell and Davis front line out-rebound the entire Sonics team last year.

Hunter and Flip would never see the floor in my playoff rotation.

Undecided about the 3rd person right now.

Dale Davis has moved on with Life after BB. I have links but that may not stop some for continuously suggesting it.


3 people in less than an hour are talking about small forwards in a thread about centers.

Also PJ Brown has supposedly moved on as well, though he's hoping he could get an Aaron McKie-like payday from the Bulls if they needed to include him in a trade.

I think we could get Kurt Thomas, but it would cost us our first or in the very least the Minnesota 2nd rounder, along with Brezec, Herrmann and Murray. I think we could look to keep Herrmann past this season though, so don't think we're too keen on moving him for essentially a 10 minute back-up. Let along moving our draft pick for a rent-a-player.

I had read about the PJ Brown saga and his willingness to work with the bulls management on that 'payday' possibility.

I think you are spot on in your analysis of the Kurt Thomas situation.
Would love to have him here but Seattle has no reason to just give him to us for less than a 1st round pick.

I would do that, but DD is retired now, i doubt he will come back for another a chance to get a ring.

Doubt we will make a move, if anything it will be a minor move, possible for a draft pick.

I think GS wanted Hermann for Pietrus, but I think it was just a rumor.

On a side note: in NBA Live 08 Hermann (pronounced "Ramone" by Marv Albert) has a rating of 85 making him one of the best players on the Pistons.

No. I believe this team is flawed but if you add a stiff based on size, it changes the entire dynamic of the bench.

Sheed guards true centers as well as anybody in this league. The only guy he struggles to defend is a healthy Shaq. He's guarded Howard one on one better than anyone.

Detroit's weakness with their bigs is defensive rebounding. I don't see how you could add a defensive rebounder to this mix right now without messing things up. A stiff who rebounds doesn't necessarily make them better. I think they gotta live and die with their mix and let their young guys get valuable experience. If it doesn't work (and I have my doubts that it will), then Detroit will have to move either Maxiell or Dyess to get someone bigger on the front line.
