Lebron-We didn't beat Detroit. Detroit beat themselves

"We're not that good. That's what everyone talks about. We beat Detroit. We didn't beat Detroit; Detroit beat themselves. Washington was missing key guys, and New Jersey didn't play up to their capabilities. Enough of the Cavs now. You all got me a little upset.- Lebron James

It seems like Lebron is a little upset with Cleveland not making a move to get Jason Kidd or Mike Bibby.

Lebron basically admitting they cakewalked it to the finals last year.

um, he's not actually saying that, he's referring to the 'disrespect' his team gets, by listing off all the things people say to not give his team credit for last year's performance.

See him referring to Washington's injuries or the "easy side" of the bracket.

According to the article he's upset in Cleveland with their lack of improving the team.

Which would lead me to believe he thinks that they really aren't that good.

Unless someone took his quote out of context and put it into that article to make it look like he was displeased with him team.

Id have to see a link to get the full context of this.

I find it impossible to believe he actually said those things, I think it more likely he his merely quoting all of the criticisms he's had to listen to regarding himself and his team over the last year.

Lebron's not pathetic like that, I dont think he'd go this far to bash his team just to throw a hissy fit about the team not improving.

Lebron throws a hissy fit everytime he doesn't get a call from a ref... what makes you think he wouldn't throw a hissy fit to force the hand of the GM?

Lebron knows what's up.... he knows his team had a cakewalk to the conference finals and he knows what happened in the ECFs, we are all just fortunate that the Spurs handed his ass to him or else we wouldn't be able to live with the NBA and BSPN if Lebron actually won a ring. :noway:

You dont draw a distinction between throwing a hissy fit at refs and throwing a more serious one at the team you play for? Alrighty.....

And of course he cakewalked to the ECF, but I'm really tired of all of this "the refs beat us" or worse yet "we could have beaten them if we had wanted to" garbage.

Lebron has already publiclu, in the press, gone out and told the Cavs brass to do certain moves and to get him better players.... that's just not speculation....alrighty?

I have never blamed the refs for the Pistons losing against the Cavs last year.... and I haven't said that the Pistons didn't WANT to beat them.... Boobie hit open threes, Varejao got Sheed and Dice out of the game, Billups was getting trapped across the timeline and Lebron went off for a good fourth quarter and OT...... don't lump everyone into one group.

^Im aware of such quotes as "I shouldnt have to tell the Cavs to go after Kidd" etc, but I think its safe to say that the above quote (if taken in its proper context) goes a step beyond that, doesn't it?

And Im sorry if you arent among those using the arguments a sited above. But what exactly did you mean then, by "he knows what happened in the ECFs". It sounded like an allusion to one of those above arguments, but if it wasn't, than what was it? It sounded like you meant something other than the simple fact that we were outplayed and outcoached.

^ He knows that his team came together at just the right moment and took our team off their game. I don't discount their win one bit, but if you think he knows that it won't happen again, especially when he'll have to prepare for Detroit AND Boston... you are more of an optimist than I ever thought possible.

You think he's not worried about Billups/Rip resting and having young guards with ballhandling ability and fresh legs? you don't think he's worried about Rasheed and Dice getting help from Maxiell and maybe Amir with a bad taste in their mouths from last year? You think Lebron trusts Larry Hughes, Sasha Pavlovic and Damon Jones when everything is on the line?

Lebron knows what's up. Lebron might not be a great and powerful Oz everyone makes him out to be, but he's not stupid.

Detroit did beat themselves in a variety of ways. They simply didn't execute the same way they did the year before.

Thread title is misleading. He was quoting or paraphrasing his critics in mock fashion.

Of course he knows itll be very tough to repeat as an Eastern Conference champion. If you got that I was implying otherwise from my post, then you misread it.

But I still dont think he'd repeat criticisms others have weighed on his team in a non-ironic way just because he's unhappy about the lack of trades for the Cavs this season. Just because he knows he'll have an really rough battle in the playoffs doesnt mean he'd make a statement like that.

Whatever, this argument entered the realm of the pointless a while back.

You win, okay?

Orlando, Detroit, and Boston have all made the necessary steps to improve their teams.

Cleveland has paraded out the same lineup as last year.

I'd be frustrated, too, if I was LBJ.

LeBron James needs help, and he's unhappy about not getting it.

Saturday's Mike Bibby trade, in which Sacramento sent him to Atlanta for four players, coupled with New Jersey still trying to move Jason Kidd to Dallas reportedly has James fuming."San Antonio is the Western champion. We are the Eastern champion. Everyone talks about everyone else," James said in a sarcastic rant.

"We're not that good. That's what everyone talks about. We beat Detroit. We didn't beat Detroit; Detroit beat themselves. Washington was missing key guys, and New Jersey didn't play up to their capabilities. Enough of the Cavs now.

I would like to add this all this was said by Sam Smith of the Chicago Tribune, so who knows if this is actually true.

I'd be mad too if I was LeBron. The Cavaliers had years to put someone half-decent next to him.

It doesn't take a psychic to see the headline coming out of all of this mess in a couple of years...

LE-GONE

(to New York, would be my guess)

He was being sarcastic--it says so right in the article itself. It's being played right now on ESPN Radio in its entirety and it's pretty pathetic how horribly misinterpreted this whole thing got.

That's not to say he doesn't think the Cavs aren't doing enough to help him, but the part about "Detroit not beating us" and all that was totally tongue in cheek. Like he was saying how the Cavs get so little respect from the national media and such. That's why he mentioned San Antonio too--because when was the last time you heard anything about them either and they're the defending champs? He's pointing out how ironic it is that the two teams in last year's finals are given almost no credit or chance to get back there again.

Lebron has no right whatsoever to talk about lack of respect by the media.
