Literally, whenever i hear ppl mention who they think the top 5 pg's in the league are, nobody seems to ever mention Chauncey, even the NBA analysts just shrug him off at times, the guy is one of the most efficent nba guards out there today

He's not a *sexy* player.
Western conference snubs are more entertaining.
But in the past 3-4 years I haven't heard many analysts or experts list him outside of their top 5.

All will put Kidd and Nash in their top fives. After this season, Chris Paul will be a unanimous selection. Depending on the intelligence of the list-maker, two of Chauncey/Baron Davis/Tony Parker/Deron Williams will round out the top 5. I'd put Chauncey and Davis in there.

I would probably go with Billups, Parker, Paul, Williams, Davis as my top 5.

Nash is great on O but not so hot on D

Kidd is great floor general but not a shooting threat

Neither has a ring or an MVP trophy and both are in the twilight years.

Either one could replace Davis on my list although he makes it due to play on both sides of the court.

Billups and Parker have the MVP hardware and really know what it takes to get the job done.

Paul and Williams get the nod due to what should be very bright futures.

All 5 play D, see the floor well, control tempo, shoot well, and play good D, although Williams is a bit lacking there at times.

They do not underrate him they just don't show him in the highlights because he's not a "sexy player" he does what he has to do when he needs to. If he doesn't need to score 20 he won't score 20 he'll score nothing for all he cares as long as they win. Last time I heard ESPN analysts actually talk about point guards Stephen A. Smith really chose him over everyone else in the categories of

1: Best all around PG
2: Most clutch PG at the moment
3: Best passing PG (Even over Steve Nash)

Other people chose him for Best All-Around PG but yeah a lot did shrug him off.

This was about 35 games in the season? I'm not sure, but it's nice seeing someone make such a defense for him

Tony Parker isn't in the conversation.

His ego gets in the way of things, and he can't break down an entire team like Nash, CP3, Parker, Davis can and Williams is even better at it than him.

He hasn't been that clutch recently either. I'm still pissed at him in the Boston game when he shot the 3 with time left on the clock when we didn't even need a 3...

How could you not put Steve Nash as top 5? His D is lacking, yes, but he runs a team like no other PG in the league. He is the best PG in my books, closely followed by Chris Paul

Chauncey is rated just where he should be... an All-Star but not a superstar. He's not a HoFer but shouldn't be.

He is.
I don't necessarily like him. He wouldn't do all that well on many other teams. Having said that, his statistics are very similar to Chauncey's yet he has had more post-season success than anybody not named Tim Duncan or Robert Horry.

Top 5 (no particular order): Nash, Deron, Paul, Davis & Billups.

Parker is a notch below, as is Kidd. But I think both Williams & Paul have passed Chauncey.

As of Today -

1.) Nash
2.) Chris Paul
3.) Deron Williams
4.) Jason Kidd
5.) Chauncey Billips

Baron Davis IMO is far too overrated. He's a chucker that has found a system that caters to him. Monta Ellis could to a fairly good job of replacing Baron in that system.

He makes great plays and great mistakes, is getting up in years, and has inflated offensive stats due to the PHX system, and has yet to even make it to the Finals, maybe this will be the year or maybe never. Oh yeah, he gets owned by not just Chauncey but Flip 'frickin' Murray.

Granted I'm thinking in terms of who I would take right now as opposed to how history will view them down the road so you can choose to take what I say with a grain of salt.

I'd say Chauncey is one of about 5-6 PG's in this league that you could put on literally any roster and instantly improve them greatly. As a Pacers fan, even with our screwed up roster, if you swapped Chauncey for Tinsley (hypothetically speaking of course), I feel like it would add about 10 wins a year at least for the Pacers and put them comfortably in the 40-50 win range instead of the 30-40 win range.


That's a pretty high compliment.


Nash, Kidd, Paul, and Williams are about 4 of the other. Parker is probably the other. I can't see Baron Davis fitting in on 90% of the rosters in the league.

Why is Chauncey so Underrated??

because for every 25/10 game he has he puts up a 8/3 with 5 missed 3's & 6 turns.

AI isn't really a PG

Chauncey's not underrated. As someone said, he's an All-Star caliber guy but only squeaks into the top 5 PGs, IMO.

He's a good, but streaky, scorer. He's a very steady hand running the offense and a pretty good passer. He's a good defender on all but the fastest point guards, and he hits more clutch shots than most.
