The San Antonio Spurs have reached agreement with the SuperSonics that will bring them center Kurt Thomas in exchange for guard Brent Barry, center Francisco Elson and a 2009 first-round draft pick, league sources said Wednesday.

Ron for the expirings of Brent Barry, Francisco Elson, and a draft pick.
Seems kinda crazy, they would have been the last team I thought would want Ron.
I wonder if they'd run a Parker-Ginobli-Bowen-Artest-Duncan lineup.
Another reason for Detroit to make a move, not because there not good enough to make the finals but because these teams are stacking up and hoping that they are getting to finals and preparing for that.

It obviously wouldn't affect us very much because our main concerns need to be our team, and teams we face in the east to get to the finals.
Perhaps the more these teams stockpile guys and beat eachother up in the finals (litterally with Artest) the better for Detroit or whoever comes out of the east.

Strange...that would give them 2 of the very best defenders in the league in Bowen and Artest. That team would be a defensive nightmare

I can't see Artest going to Spurs, everyday there is a new team that is in line for Artest. Pure speculation at the moment, but if this deal went down it could be scary for other teams.

That Tim Duncan is no slouch defensively either

All the West teams are trying to match up with one another and they're all going to beat each other up in the process. Not to worried about any of them atm. We have to worry bout Boston and I don't see much need to make a move in that regard. The only thing we need to do is try to find a vet bigman enforcer if we can.

Yeah, but we're good enough to beat anybody already so we don't need to make any trades. Dallas, LA, PHX and now possibly SA are all making more to catch up to our greatness. Artest as a rent-a-player will be on his absolute best behavior.

Looks like the Spurs are willing to make a deal with the devil in order to avoid getting lost in the shuffle out west.
I dont think this prompts us to HAVE to make a move, but you have to believe Dumars will keep his mind open. You dont want a questionable kneejerk reaction, but hopefully he isnt COMPLETELY set on standing pat.
Complacency can be as bad as making the wrong move.

As was figured, Kurt Thomas' price tag was a first rounder. We could have had him if we wanted him I would assume. And it was a 2009 first rounder, meaning we could have traded that pick and still had Minnesota's pick 4-5 picks later early in the second round.
Ku.Thomas makes more sense than Ronnie Artest. Artest was the player originally linked to be heading to SA before the TS changed the OP to make the rest of us look like maroons.

I dont understand your reasoning at all for saying SA is trying to catch up to our greatness. I also understand we have been successful but no teams are making trades to catch up to us they are making trades to catch up to SA. We havent been to the finals in over two years and we lost to a team that SA swept no one is worried about us right now. Over the last two years we havent proved it. Thats just wrong to say teams in the west are looking up to us. The whole league is trying to catch SA including us, not the other way around.
This trade would make them champions again easily. Artest gets hated on by pretty much by everybody on this board (for good reason) but one thing that shouldnt happen is people question his ability. He is a great player and would go to a new situation and be a great teammate. People always try to label bad guys but look at Randy Moss in NE everyone thought he would ruin them. This is the same situation if it happens. I understand it wouldnt affect us to a point but if we want to win a championsip and the Spurs aquire Artest it will be them we will play.

For us to make it work we would have had to trade Brezec, Hermann, Flip, and a First...
And as soon as Thomas gets here people would be complaining about Amir getting cut from the rotation.
I can see why Dumars wouldn't make that move.
Spurs playoff rotation now?
C:Oberto/Thomas
F:Duncan/Thomas
F:Bowen/Ginobli
G:Finley/Ginobli
G:Parker/Damon

He was being sarcastic, Low Ki has wanted to trade away all our expirings and draft picks for *insert random player* for weeks now.

There seems to be an abundance of fans who want the Pistons to make a move just for the sake of saying they made one. Crazy aint it?

I would have had no problem relegating Amir back to the bench come play-off time. Ku Thomas is expiring after this season, so there is no long term commitment or anybody blocking Amir next season.
Brezec and Flip wont play a minute in the play-offs, and probably won't dress. Herrmann could log some garbage minutes, but will not play ahead of Hayes and certainly wouldn't be in the play-off rotation.

I dunno. I want to make a move to improve this team for the play-offs.

I'm glad it is Thomas, rather then Artest going to the Spurs.

Initially it was Kurt Thomas. Kill me now, but I wouldn't mind dealing for Eddy Curry, as I think he's ripe for the picking buy low candidate and would like to see how he would respond to playing for a veteran laden professional organization.
Where else are you going to get a 6'11" 280lb true center who is 25 yrs old and once averaged 19points and 7 boards in the NBA?

Kurt is a solid player, works hard on the boards.
We have a version of him somewhat in Dice tho.
In the playoffs Sheed and Dice will be playing 32-40 MPG. Max will be the other big off the bench. Amir is almost certainly out reguardless unless he can cut down on his mistakes.
