Brent Barry waived by Seattle... Can we get him?

I think he'd be a better option than Dixon.

He has enough size to play SF if Jarvis is slumping.

We could just go ahead and waive Flip and Dixon and sign Barry and a big man.

Id rather have him than Dixon or Flip, so I suppose Id be in favor of this.

I wouldnt expect him to make much of an impact, but I always liked his versatility earlier in his career.

I bet he'll just take some time off and sign with the Spurs in time for the playoffs just like Stack said he would with the Mavs.

He's great off the bench when he's healthy. I'd like to see Joe try to nab him.

I'd let PJ Brown know we were also interested if he is entertaining the thought with the Hornets. Of course he's familiar with the city and organization in New Orleans, so it would make more sense in that way, but NO coming out of the West is a long shot.

Basically we're set-up nice in our hunt for a veteran big man should any be waived. Sure Dallas could use one as well, however if they're chasing a ring, the West might not be the best place to land. And Cleveland just added two veteran bigs, to go along with Ilgauskas and Varajao. So it would basically be us and Boston trying to lure the big man in and I think Boston is hoping a point guard becomes available.

Of course Dallas has the FULL MLE available at their disposal.

Of course I would sign Brent Barry. He's an even better shooter than Hayes and can't be much worse of a defender. His versatility and consistency makes this a no-brainer. I would play him at SF when Hayes is slumping, PG when Stuckey is mucking up plays (with Dixon at the 2, if we'd like), and SG when Dixon is simply too short to throw out there.

I wish we could get him , but more likely he will go back to the Spurs, there should be a rule were a player that has been traded from a team can not go back to that team until the following season. I thought once he clears waivers in 48hrs he can sign with any team, not 30 day.

I thought the waiver period was 36 hours.
I was going to suggest a rule that stated that players could not re-sign with a team that traded them, but this would just result in team A trading said player to team B, which trades him to team C, which trades him back to team A, all pre-planned. Third teams (C) could be used as facilitators between the original trading partners (A+B) and receive picks or some other compensation for their cooperation.

He could sign with any team within but the same team the Spurs, that's the only rule on the
"player traded, waived, re-picked up to same team" problem.

The Rockets plan to begin pursuit of guard Brent Barry, who was dealt to the Seattle SuperSonics on Wednesday but will be released, a person with knowledge of the Rockets' intentions said Thursday. The Phoenix Suns and San Antonio Spurs, who included Barry in the deal that landed them Kurt Thomas, also are expected to chase Barry. The Spurs can offer the largest contract, having not spent their mid-level exception. But Barry, who is expected to be sidelined two to three weeks with a calf injury, would have to sit out 30 days before returning to the team that just traded him.

"There are several guys that look like they might shake loose," Rockets general manager Daryl Morey said. "We have the ability to offer as much as most teams, unless they kept their mid-level. We used ours this year. I think we're a pretty attractive situation. That was a big part of it.

The Sonics quickly waived former fan favorite Brent Barry to clear roster space for the 11-player deal Thursday. Barry had missed the past three weeks with a torn plantar fascia and it is uncertain when he will return. He is eligible to sign with any team and could help a contender down the stretch.

The Sonics paid Barry the prorated portion of his $5.4 million deal. The last time the Sonics acquired a veteran who never put on a uniform was Bryon Russell from Denver in the 2006 Earl Watson deal. Russell also was waived and eventually retired.

"In all honesty, he had that injury twice," Popovich said of the left calf injuries that struck Barry twice this season. "That does become a concern, the injury and the age. But really, the trade was done to obtain Kurt Thomas."

Pretty sure a player can't get traded back to the team that traded him during the season so...

As far as waivers, any team can sign him as soon as the alloted wait period (48 hours?) has passed. Only the team that traded him (SAS in this case) can't claim him at that point and would have to wait 30 days before signing him.

Brent Barry will be free soon. The Sonics have waived him, and he can sign with any team after a 48-hour period.

Any team except the Spurs, of course. Because they traded him, they wouldn't be able to re-sign him for 30 days.

There are reasons to think Barry will wait. But he has every right to weigh his options and rethink what he wants to do. After all, he's been hearing trade rumors for several years.

If we could get him, sure. That being said, I don't think he'll be a Piston - we'll use our open spot (now that Murray has been waived) on a C.

My guess is he'll either go back to the Spurs, or sign with Phoenix.

If I were the GM I would cut Hunter and sign Barry/Magloire.

The only weakness in that ENTIRE roster is our project C. We could variate the active roster, switching between Dixon/Afflalo/Hermann and Magloire/Hayes/Johnson.

It's too early to tell whether Brent Barry's recent wild ride on the transaction wire will wind up with him back in San Antonio, the guard's agent said Friday.

Barry's agent, Arn Tellem, said Friday that Barry is still in the early stages of weighing his next move.
