Boston Celtics sign PJ Brown

I hope Joe Dumars knows what he's doing. That's a solid add for the Celts. I'd much rather have PJ than Dale I'll say that much. I hope at least Brown turned us down rather than Dumars never inquiring. Maybe he's the player we were waiting on before signing Davis.
Rip Hamilton is a stain on the Pistons franchise.

The Boston Celtics announced today that they have signed center-forward P.J. Brown. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Brown, a 6'11", 239 pound forward, will be entering his 15th year in the NBA. Brown played for the Chicago Bulls during the 2006-07 season and averaged 6.1 points to go along with 4.8 rebounds in 20.2 minutes per game. The Louisiana Tech product has career averages of 9.2 points, 7.8 rebounds in 31.4 minutes per game. Brown has appeared in 81 career playoff games and has posted an average of 8.4 points and 7.9 rebounds per game in over 2,500 career postseason minutes played.

Its a nice add for Boston, but not one that particularly scares me. He'll play reletively few minutes.

As for why Joe D didnt go after him, there are several possible reasons. For one, all of our other big men currently on the roster prefer the 4 to the 5, and PJ would add another. May be weak, as PJ is 6-11 and has played center at times before, but its all I got.

Seems like we could have gotten the guy. We havent signed Davis yet, and maybe thats because Dumars WAS talking to PJ and maybe others. With Magloire and Brown off the market, Dale is our best bet.

Interesting. Does he start over Perkins now at center? This is a real good signing for Boston.

Nice pick-up but doesn't scare me he's not going to pull of 20 PPG. He may even only play little minutes.

Gosh, I'm surprised people out there are still keeping track of some of those names. The only name that somewhat catches my attention is Jackie Butler. He had 1 good year with the Knicks then signed a pretty good contract with San Antonio. That's the last I ever heard of him. Anyone know what happened?

Agreed

But you also have consider that if Brown signed here, he would've been the 5th big. As for Boston, he might move into their starting lineup. Probalby not, but he would be an upgrade over the drunk currently starting at C.

I think the way Amir has played(especially after unloading Nazr) has proved to Dumars that he has earned the 4th big slot. While Brown would be nice, I'm sure he wouldn't be content just to be an emergency backup. I'm not sure if he's getting more than the minimum, but he knows he will be getting minutes in Boston.

But I was still a bit surprised by this as I thought he was going to New Orleans.

It's a good pickup for Boston, but I wonder if this will effect signing Cassell if he becomes available.

The **** crypt keeper is old as dirt, but they need a backup pg. Badly..

More so than adding P.J. Brown or even us adding Dale.

NO gets 1st dibs but have to wait until he is reinstated by the league.

If he makes it past 30 days (starting from time of reinstatement) then anyone is free to sign him.

Boston needs some depth and this move helps. Same if they were to get Cassel. Still, if/when we play them in the playoffs, the rotation is going to be pretty tight for both teams. I doubt Brown gets 15mpg. I don't think that will be a difference maker in the series. Our bench guys are going to be reduced minutes as well - Stuckey and Max and a little Hayes/Amir with spot minutes from Lindsey as needed. The series will be decided by our starters vs their starters.

All I know is some people were pissed around here for signing Nazr instead of Butler.

If anything, that was a wash

Actually, if you read their forum, they've been wanting to sign him.

I mean, they already have an alcoholic commentator and starting C, why not a cokehead

IMO i think Joe will go for someone that he knows can bring to this team, where i think DD is favoured to be that guy.

After a 2-year contract with the Spurs ended; He signed with the Rockets but was then waived earlier this year in the Pre-Season when Mutombo stayed. Other then that he's a free agent who hasn't played since the pre-season.

Yeah I checked that out. Wonder if/when he will get reinstated.

He has been working out with Abunassar? and playing pick up games with Garnett and JO apparently

OK, Tommy is definitely a drunk. But last time I checked Vin Baker isnt on the team and our starting C isnt a drunk.
