Globe: Sam Cassell to be bought out within the hour

"Los Angeles Clippers point guard Sam Cassell is expected to sign buyout papers with the franchise with an hour and he will sign with the Boston Celtics once he clears waivers, according to an NBA source.

Cassell and the Clippers have agreed to buyout terms and is expected to receive some of the money remaining on his $6.1 salary this season.

Once the 38-year old's buyout is official, he has to clear waivers within 48 hours so he can become eligible to sign with another team.

The 6-foot-3, 185 pounder is expected to be waived by Saturday and would be eligible to sign and play with the Celtics in the postseason.

Cassell will not travel with the Clippers to Denver where they face the Nuggets on Friday night.

The Clippers are expected to sign guard Flip Murray, who was let go by the Detroit Pistons, to replace Cassell.

Once the buyout is finalized, Cassell will have 48 hours to clear waivers and sign with another team.

The Celtics are expected to be the front runner to sign the 38-year old guard."

Cassel and Brown would be a pair of really solid additions to the Celtics, assuming it goes through as expected.

Not that Im scared, but this really helps Boston's weaknesses (IE depth and experience on the bench).

Not scared but I wonder how much Rondos minutes are reduced.

Exactly. I think Piston arrogance is trickling down to it's fan base. Boston has added to legitimate NBA caliber rotation players over the past couple of days and Piston fans play it off like it's not a big deal. If we play our game nobody can beat us. If we lose it's because we beat ourselves.
Rip Hamilton is a stain on the Pistons franchise.

Tony Allen is the backup SG, not House. Posey will also get some minutes at the 4, too. But yeah, you basically got it right.

I feel more comfortable with Chanucey going against Cassell than Rondo.

1) It's not a guarantee Cassell is heading to Boston. Likely, but not set in stone

2) If it does happen, it's a good move as they need a backup pg badly. But I'm not about to freak out about other every single move not involving Detroit.

Call it arrogance if you will, but I call it having a level head and not worrying about things I can't control. No matter how things look on paper.

But if you want to go Dennis Green, then by all means go ahead and crown their asses

The last-place Los Angeles Clippers waived injury-prone Sam Cassell on Thursday, after he missed four straight games because of a sprained right wrist.

Cassell is earning $6.1 million this season -- the final year of his contract."After weighing all of the options, and after conversations with Sam, we believe this is the best solution for this team," general manager Elgin Baylor said in a statement. "We know and appreciate the many contributions Sam made during the last three years, and we wish him nothing but the best."

Three weeks ago, Cassell denied a Boston Globe report that he was trying to buy out his contract so he could play for the Eastern Conference-leading Celtics.

I just go by what yahoo tells me. It listed Allen as a G and House as a SG.

Celtics general manager Danny Ainge has said he is interested in finding the "right veteran point guard."

I bet he'll start and average nearly 15 ppg in the final 25 games. He will only pass when absolutely forced

Marginalize it all you want, but the fact remains the Pistons & Celts have been fairly evenly matched thus far and Boston just upgraded their bench.

Our upgrades, if they come will have to be internal development, ie; Stuckey, Afflalo, Maxiell & Amir. And Flip doesn't even trust them in the regular season, you think he's gonna play them in a tightly contested playoff game?

Can we still beat Boston? Yeah, sure. But make no mistake - things are getting tougher for us and this is not good for us.
