PALACE PRINCE BIG WITH STARTERS OUT

Post#1 » by captainrebel » Mon Mar 10, 2008 8:14 pm

I have always known that Prince plays big when one of the other starter is out but I never figured the numbers were that big across the board. Check this out! The numbers are higher in every category.

Its interesting, but as you said, not altogether surprising. A starter being out means he'll have more plays run for him (as Id imagine he has fewer than any other starter normally), and also forces him to assert himself more on offense. It was particularly striking when Rip was out, but applies now as well.

What would really be a treat is if Prince could raise those offensive numbers when all the starters are in instead of being a little girl and not being aggressive with the ball

I'd say a pussy on offense but that works; he does need to be more aggressive with starters in.

I'd be more impressed if Chauncey would call more plays for Tayshaun. Considering Tayshaun makes great decisions when the ball is in his hands, a few more ISO's and post ups wouldn't hurt. His defense, as most players, seems to pick up as well when he's getting additional ball handling duty.

Yeah he always plays better with a starter out, isn't anything new. He doesn't care about individual success and he's like the marquee guy when it comes to this. He could easily average 20 a game and I feel like someday he will, probably when Billups and Sheed start to slow down.

The thing that surprises me the most about him is how durable he is. When he's playing aggressively, he always takes hard fouls and gets right back up. Considering his frame, it always surprises me that he is the most durable Piston.

Pts Rebs Assts FGA FTA FG% FT%
All games 13.8 4.8 3.25 11.8 3.2 45 78.6
Minus starter 20.5 5.7 4.4 14.45 4.9 54 83.3 :o
With every starter 12.3 4.6 3.0 11.2 2.8 42.4 76.8

It's not that Tayshaun is a pussy when Sheed, Dice, Rip and Chauncey is in the game.... it's just that he's the 4th or 5th option most nights and doesn't get looks early. Plus he often defends the opposing teams best player... that takes some of the enrgy out of him while his teammates are jacking up jumpers.

How many times have we all stated that if Tayshaun got early looks in the game, he plays better, and the Pistons have a better chance of winning?

How many times have you see him get the pass from Rip or Chauncey with under 3 seconds left on the shot clock and he's closely defended?

How many times have you see him box out his man long enough for his teammate to grab the rebound instead of fighting the opposing player to the ball and maybe losing that possession?

I truly believe that if Tayshaun was even the 3rd option offensively on this team and was looked to early every game, he would put up much better stats.... but he's not the type of guy that looks for his... he's just worried about the team getting theirs.

I would like to see how his minutes vary (obviously an increase) without one or more teammates.
A truer of his offensive production would be how much his points-per-shot changes when he's more of a focal point in the offense. perhaps.
