Darius Songaila Unaware of His Position in Life, Punches LeBron James

So apparently someone forgot to tell Darius Songaila that a. no one punches LeBron James, and b. if someone were able to punch LeBron James, it's certainly not him. But that's just what the 6-8 Lithuanian forward did tonight. While Songaila was only given a technical foul for this, it's likely (read: certain) that he'll be suspended for Game 6 in Washington. And a series that has already been brutally dirty just got nastier. Except for the fact that it's pretty clear Songaila just got tangled up with him. It's not like Songaila was actually thinking "Who do you think you are? I'm Songaila!" It would be a shame for Songaila to be suspended for this, but still ... dude, it's LeBron. What do you think is going to happen?

That was the bitchiest punch I've ever seen. He barely even hit him.

I'm surprised Lebron didn't flop to the floor and play dead for a few seconds. What a wuss.

KG had more contact with the ref in game 4 than Darius had with LeBron.

I just like the way the article was written, like something out of the Onion.

How the officiating and the NBA reviews are happening during these playoffs, even a punch to the NBA golden child will not end up in a suspension.

I did enjoy the highlights of this game on ESPN.
Every single time Songaila was in one of the clips, he was whinging to the refs.

I have been loving the Washington Cleveland series as an outsider.

...And the title is pure gold.

I really don't believe that was intentional. But unless you're KG, you're going to pay for it.

But unless you're KG, or Brendan Haywood, or Jason Kidd, or Paul Pierce, or Al Horford, or all the other players who've shown much more malice in altercations, you're going to pay for it.

fixed.

I didn't see the so called hit on LeBron, but by reading the posts here it is a load of crap that Songaila is suspended. Without seeing the hit on LeBron but having watched KG push an official it just goes to show that the league will do anything to make sure the stars move on while the teams that play with heart go home early.

I copied the link to the video underneath the article. His arm just got tangled and he tried to pull it out. If it was a real punch Lebron would have killed him or at least been pretty upset.

Thanks for the video update. I surely don't think that is worthy of a suspension but if it is then the league has to make it consistent and that will never happen.

According to the rules throwing a "punch" is an automatic one game suspension and possibly more.

According to the rules, throwing a deliberate "elbow above the shoulders that makes contact" is an automatic one game suspension and possibly more.

According to the rules making "contact with a ref" is an automatic one game suspension and possibly more.

KG SHOULD have been suspended for the late elbow AND what he did to the ref.

What total **** BS. I'm ok with them suspending Songailia if they thought he hit Lebron with a closed fist in the face. But how can they now suspend KG for what he did?!?!

Washington Wizards reserve forward Darius Songaila was suspended by the NBA for Game 6 of a playoff series against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday night for hitting LeBron James in the face.

Songaila, averaging 5.8 points and 2.6 rebounds in 15.4 minutes during the series, and Wizards coach Eddie Jordan say the contact was accidental as the player tried to pull his arm free after getting tangled with James in the first quarter of Game 5 on Wednesday."Songaila's contact was not made in the normal course of a basketball play, and he struck Lebron James in the face, and by rule receives an automatic suspension," NBA executive vice president Stu Jackson said in a conference call with reporters Friday.

But Jackson said that the Songaila-James play was viewed on its own - and that the NBA has not warned the Wizards."There's no subliminal message here," Jackson said. "We evaluate each of these plays on its own merit."

Why haven't more people throw a fuss about these obvious discrepancies in league policy enforcement?
