Lol, I HATED him when he was a Cowpoke, but the guy was damned good, one of the best OL's I've ever seen. He was probably better than Matthews, but it's close. BM's play when they went Run N' Shoot was something to see, as far as adapting, and the guy could do everything. But Allen...he was just a stud. He didn't just do everything well, he did many things as well as anyone ever.

Shields is not on quite the same level, imo. I'd probably put McDaniel ahead of him, too. Shields is just super consistent, bit doesn't max out like those other guys.

My 'I have seen' best ever OL goes like this:

OT: Munoz and probably Roaf, though if we are talking setting up LT/RT, and can narrow it to dominant years, Erik Williams is up there.

OG: Allen and Matthews.

C: D. Stephenson.

Yeah, the more I think about it, Shields is behind McDaniel to me, too. He's the guy it occcurs to consider putting ahead of Matthews. Matthews was just so damned versatile, though.

For those that might have missed it, Gene Hickerson just died recently. Two years ago when he went into the HOF his wheelchair was pushed by 3 HOF RBs that he blocked for, one of the coolest things I've ever seen.

anyone think will shields will go in 1st ballot? im pretty sure historically guards and C's have a hard time getting in but he and willie roaf were the best left side in football even when roaf decided to hang em up

Roaf is so unappreciated, even in New Orleans.

Recently there was a vote about the "greatest Saints player" of all time, and Willie Roaf was 3rd behind the overratedness that is Archie Manning, and number 1 on the list was Bobby **** Hebert.

BOBBY HEBERT. Come on, the Saints don't have a huge history of great players, but we have at least 3 linebackers that should be 2, 3 and 4 behind Willie Roaf at an EASY number 1. Archie Manning wouldn't make my top 5, and Bobby **** Hebert wouldn't be in my 5 best quarterbacks, he's a **** bum, and a total douchebag.
