Portis/Betts vs. Barber/Jones

I'm going with Portis/Betts. Portis and Jones are similar playmaking-type backs and Portis >>>>>>>> Jones because he is more explosive, powerful, and is the best blocking back in the league. Barber >>> Betts but not enough to make up for the difference between Portis and Jones

lol at Portis being the best blocking back in the league.

The difference between Barber and Betts might be bigger. He did lead the NFC in TDs last season..

Quality>Quantity
Portis is a good bit better than any of the other three, Betts is just lagniappe.

Then who is? Portis completely levels defenders, heck even big DT's.
Hes a monster when it comes to blocking.
Where as this thread, Barber has a nose for the end zone but hes not a better runner than Ladell Betts as of now. But who knows it took Betts four years to break out.
Julius Jones IMO is garbage and Clinton Portis is a top 10 back in ths league, maybe even top 5.

Blind siding a guy that's already stumbling with a launching helmet-to-helmet shot isn't that impressive. That said, Portis does lay the wood more than any other RB, but that doesn't make him the best blocker.
Of course, I don't really follow non-Falcon RBs and how good they are at blocking (Dunn is a very underrated blocker) so I can't make the call.
As far as the comparison, it's easily the Redskins duo. Jones is the worst of the four and I don't believe Barber is capable of being an every down back.

Lorenzo Neal and Mack Strong.
They're still "backs" are they not?

He has sprung numerous big plays for us because of his blocking. For example, in our Jacksonville win last year, on one of Moss's long TD's, CP got out there and leveled big John Henderson. Another example was MNF on Campbell's run. CP got out there and leveled a defender.
Although CP blew one assignment this week in pass blocking on the Juqua Thomas sack, the man is excellent at it and I've seen him layout guys like Shelton Quarles when they've come in on a blitz.

Fullbacks. When it comes to RB's Portis is definitely up there.

Hey, the OP said "Backs", so I stand by my answer.

Yeah he blew out Al Wilson two years ago on a blitz too. CP plays with a lot of heart. Many guys after getting a seperated shoulder wouldn't be launching themselves at others the way CP does.

i fail to see what exactly betts does that makes him better than barber. barber is runnig as good as anyone right now. he gets more YPC tds and is a great 3rd down back.
as for jones he is what he is, can look good some runs and then run into flozell's ass 2 straight runs, plus he goes down to easy. but i think the system we have going right now is perfect. the way barber runs i think he'll run himself into the ground in 3 years if he took 75% of the carries. but they'll start to split them more evenly now, and though jones may get the start barber will be the one finishing the game when the defense is worn out.

You are such an idiot. I'm lolling at you saying Ladell Betts is a better runner, no. Marion Barber is better at every aspect of the game than Ladell Betts. Second of all, Clinton Portis is an injury prone player. Third of all, Ladell Betts is by far the worst of the bunch. Fourth of all LOL @ Portis "maybe" top 5. No, he is "maybe" top 10. I can name ten that are arguably better.
LaDainian Tomlinson
Larry Johnson
Shaun Alexander
Frank Gore
Steven Jackson (theres your DEFINITE top 5)
Reggie Bush
Brian Westbrook
Joseph Addai
Laurence Maroney
Rudi Johnson
Willie Parker
Jamal Lewis
Willis McGahee
and that is just off of the top of my head, I'm probably missing a few more..

Portis is without a doubt better than Gore, Bush, Addai, Maroney, Parker, Lewis and McGahee. I'd say at this point he's better than Alexander. Westbrook and Johnson are the only questionable ones. Portis "maybe top 5" is a fair assessment.

Thats the top 5, you can't even come close to arguing that Portis is "maybe" top 5.
Here's a bunch of guys that are easily better:
Joseph Addai
Rudi Johnson
Willie Parker
Brian Westbrook
Here's a bunch of guys that are arguably better:
Laurence Maroney
Travis Henry
Willis McGahee
Edgerrin James
Jamal Lewis
Here's a bunch of guys that can change it in the near future:
Reggie Bush
Maruice Jones Drew
Adrian Peterson
Marshawn Lynch

So a guy that averages about 1300 yards and 10 TDs a season at 4.7 yards a carry (all including last year where he only played 8 games) is lucky to be in the top half of the league for running backs. BRILLIANT!

ROFL
Addai, MAroney, Johnson, Parker, JAMAL LEWIS, Willis McGahee LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Brian Westbrook LOL, REGGIE BUSH HAHAHAHA,
right buddy, totally unbiased over there. There all better than Clinton Portis and haven't even done **** in there career which puts them close to Clintons production.
Ladell Betts > Marion Barber
Ladell Betts > Julius Jones
Numbers speak the truth. Ladell out rushed Julius Jones in half the starts. I'd much rather have his consistent power running betwen the tackles than Barbers stat padded 2 yard touchdowns.
Not only that but on a stat analyzing website, the guy mentioned that Marion Barber is severely overrated. Tons of his runs came in blowouts and on 3rd and longs padding his stats. The funny thing is, hes doing it again this year ripping off a 40 yard TD when the game was already over.
Yeah hes totally better than
Ladell Betts who had 1500+ yards in 8 starts.
Get the **** out hater. Julius Jones is GARBAGE. Marion Barber is an overrated stat padder.

btw the only running backs I'd take over Clinton
Ladanian Tomlinson, Frank Gore and Adrian Peterson.
LT is obvious and Gore and Peterson are the only ones who I'm sure will end up having a better career than Clinton.
But yeah, a guy who rushed for 1300+ yards in each of his first four years in the league is not even a top 15 RB in the league. One injury plagued year and hes obviously not that good. Lets completely ignore the fact that hes come back strong this year and has put out two solid games already.
On his way to another 1500 yard and 15 TD seasonthis year. but yeah youd much rather have Willis McGahee and Jamal Lewis
Whatever you Cowboy idiots can keep hating on him. Its obvious anyways, he always poops on you guys.

Gore has had exactly one good season.
How many players(especially RB's) have we seen be one hit wonders?
Did he have a better year than Portis last year? absolutely. Does one good year from him, and a down year from Portis automatically make him better? not necessarily.
I think Deuce Mcallister is being forgotten in all those lists though.
This is the guy who had 1600+ yards, 69 catches, and 500+ receiving yards behind a horrid o-line, with Aaron Brooks as the QB.
He's not utilized particularly well, except for the power aspect of his game these days. He's still a 235 pound back, with break away speed, and terrific hands.(Joe Horn and many others said he had the best hands on the team by far)
BTW Willis Mcgahee is about the most overrated RB ever, he was overrated in college, and continued straight into the NFL. I don't know how a guy who has never had any really great seasons can be talked about as a top back so much.
