Antonio Cromartie

Post#1 » by FakeScreenName123 » Sun Dec 9, 2007 7:23 pm

From watching this dude on a few charger games this year, he seems to be really solid. Great size with really good speed and great hands. I dont know much about him, but i already really like him. Granted, im not a chargers fan(and never will be, chargers suck) but i'd like to know more about this kid.

Any chargers fans or anyone else(Icness) know anything bout him? What kind of potential does he have? Like a scouting report kinda deal thing.

all i know about him is he went to THE Ohio State and he creates alot of turnovers, and it seems like he does every week.

other than that dont think ive seen him play (or the chargers) this season

No, he went to Florida State. He missed most of his college career via injury. But Bowden said, when healthy is the best Corner he has ever coached. If he was healthy in college imo, he would of been a top 5 pick.

I'll post my actual pre-draft evaluation of him:

Antonio Cromartie, #13 Florida State
Junior, will turn 22 right before draft
Ht: 6', 2.75"
Wt: 206
40: 4.42
10S: 1.77 (that's 10-yard split time)

Pros:
Exceptional natural athlete, was state ranked in hurdles and long jump in HS and ran indoor track at FSU his frosh year. Very good size and he is comfortable in his frame. Outstanding break from backpedal, allows him to play with a smaller cushion on even the fastest WRs. Great natural ballhawker with outstanding hands, better hands than most WRs in this class. Has some ability to dictate routes in press coverage. Fluid hips and feet, very good balance when running full speed. Good at baiting the QB and closing quickly to make a play. Not afraid to come up in run support, though is not asked to do so very often. Plays better when using inside technique and keeping the WR outside with safety help over the top, a la Tampa 2. Very confident in his ability and is a guy who focuses on his positives and does not dwell on the negatives. Has the makings of an explosive PR, though has not seen much action in that regard. His coaches rave about his ability and genuinely like him.

Cons:
Coming off major knee injury (ACL, PCL) that caused him to miss entire 2005 season. Takes a lot of bad angles and relies too heavily on his closing speed to make up for it. Doesn't have a real good feel for what route the WR is running all the time. Will take false steps and get his feet crossed when moving towards the middle of the field. Not as physical as a guy his size should be. More of a banger than a tackler, drops his head and rarely wraps or drives through tackles. Vulnerable to double moves, moreso than average. Will lose his man and get confused when faced with multiple WR sets on the same side of the field. Does not go over the middle in coverage well, seems very uncomfortable inside the hashes. Not a very good student in the classroom. Talks too much and can be taken off his game by trash talk sent back his way.

Overall:
Bobby Bowden claims he's as good as Deoin Sanders in coverage at the same point in their careers. I don't see that but I'm not one to argue too loudly wth Bowden. As long as he comes back from his knee injury without loss of speed or fluidity, he's got loads of potential as a shutdown #1 CB. Has the highest upside of any CB in this draft but does have pretty sizeable bust potential. NFL Comparison: a faster Chris Gamble, Deangelo Hall but with better size.

He definitely would have been a top 10 pick without the injury problems.

Very skilled player who like mentioned many times was setback by the surgery. I believe they saw him as the answer to Randy Moss when they drafted him. He is one of my favorite corners really and im excited to see him doing good this year.
Jazz: Under reconstruction, we'll be back.
