Both?
Broncos wont take Dareus
Bills wont take Miller
Cards wont take Gabbert/Peterson
Browns wont take Quinn/Fairley
Cowboys wont take Tyron Smith

Redskins, Niners and Titans are all over the place with analyst predictions so i didnt even bother.

Belichick should have traded the pick. He took bad value with Dawling, somebody had to have a trade package for him better than that. Another Patriots gaffe.

Non-Football question for you. Why do so many people here refer to you as Iceness or Ice when your screenname is Icness? Enough people do it that it makes me wonder if that is the name you want people to call you and I'm the only one out of the loop.
Tom Gores' Securus faced a class action lawsuit in 2024. The company engaged in a "quid pro quo kickback scheme" with county jails in Michigan which banned in-person visits in order to maximize revenue from voice and video calls.

My name has nothing to do with ice. It's pronounced ICK-ness. It's so prevalent that I just let it go, but thanks for pointing it out.

they just constantly mispell his name, at this point it does seem like it's on purpose though

Hey Jeff, since most major network/publications have very little on the Jaguars' small-school guys, anything you can provide for guys like Shorts, Prosinski, and Isaac?

I know Mount Union pretty well, a lot of people from my HS conference wound up there and I've been to a handful of their games over the years. Shorts is not really a comparable receiver to Garcon, they are different styles. Shorts is more of a seam guy in the NFL, quicker but not as deep/fast. He's got phenomenal hands and great concentration. Not sure if you're old enough to remember him but he reminds me of Webster Slaughter, who was a pretty good Z receiver for the Browns. I suspect in JAX he'll be the #2 receiver by 2012.

I was shocked that Prosinski was drafted. He was only on my radar at all because I happened to see their games against Texas and TCU. What I recall: head-down hitter that reads the run well. He had a tackle behind the line against Texas that was nice. Sorry, that's about it.

Isaac was even further off my radar, so I asked some MTSU people about him. Here's what two former Raiders sent back:
"Smart kid. Built like a corner, tackles like a safety. Can press if asked. Fearless. Strong leader, coach on field."
and
"He can play in the slot for years. He's a real smart football player, helped the coaches a lot in practices and games. He thinks he is bigger than he is and tackles real well. The knock on him was that he can't catch anything."

I'll be honest, I never saw him play. I know several former MTSU players so I rely on them for that school and some other Sun Belt and regional guys.

Washington or Miami, whichever decides to pay more...which makes me think Washington.

Are you doing any draft grades?

Hopefully, I can't wait to find one grade that is really way off so I can hammer him on it. hehe

I'm working on a impressions piece. No grades but my opinions on each team will be clear.

Grades are asinine because nobody has played yet. I got toasted on that a few years back, when I gave the Panthers a D for taking Jon Stewart (already having D. Williams from the 1st the year before) and the massive price for Jeff Otah (worth it, for the first two years), plus I thought Charles Godfrey was two rounds too early (he's a good starter) and Dan Connor was too high too. They got four of their better starters out of that draft that I hated.

Thanks for the input Jeff. I've only seen a few of the highlights on youtube, but of the three small-school 3rd day picks, I thought Shorts looks the least impressive. Good to hear that your sources at Mt. Union speaks highly of him. I know the Jaguars don't have a killer WR core, but still, if you can get a #2 WR in the 4th round, that is darn good value.

Prosinski I actually really like. Seems like he has a nose for the football, good speed (4.4), good vert (40"), good size, and super intelligent (could have went to Harvard).

Isaac too, looks like he can run and tackle. Reminds me of a former Jaguar, Fernando Bryant. Good to hear positive feedback from those who actually know these guys.

From the way Gene Smith talks, it would seem he and JDR expects Shorts to be #3 WR, Prosinski to compete at either S spot, and for Isaac to take over the nickel spot.

With Rackley having the potential of a possible long-term fixture at G, this draft looks like it could really be good...providing Gabbert lives up to his top 10 billing.

Now that the 2011 draft is done, do you have an insanely premature 2012 mock?
Also was wondering if you had any information on Vontaze Burfict and Mark Barron.

I'll tell you the top 3 picks next year, with pretty solid confidence:
1. Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford.
2. Matt Barkley, QB, USC.
3. Ryan Kalil, T, USC.

Honestly I don't focus much on future drafts until after the last one. There are guys I like and have caught my eye, but I'm not breaking them down with a critical eye until it's their draft season. I've been decompressing from 2011 but I'm ready to get back and watching some ball; I'll have one up before I go to Vegas at the beginning of June.

Mark Barron--BIG hitter, well-built, plays with unhinged aggression. Has good hands but isn't great as a cover guy, his INTs and deflections were in no small part a function of Saban's system. Fantastic closing burst. Head is always up. Overruns far too many plays, doesn't stay balanced--he cost them the Auburn game almost by himself because of it.

Vontaze Burfict--Real talented, real head-case. Impact player but he lacks discipline, both during and after plays. I remember watching the USC game and he cost them the game headhunting after a whistle. Then there's the pointless shot on Owen Marecic that really hurt them in the Stanford game. He needs to learn to keep his feet on the ground for tackles, but man can he deliver a hit. Need to see more of him to get a bigger picture.

Walt has Zeitler and Wagner going in the 2nd round from Wisconsin, Ogelsby and Konz will most likely be drafted as well depending on injuries.

Will the Badgers be sending 2+ O-Lineman to the pros every year for the next decade?

Thanks for the info, both of these guys just scream Rex Ryan type players to me. Watching the highlights of these two they impress you easily, but like you said both are a bit of mental case. With Burfict he is finally stepping up as a team leader and he has me super excited for this year.
