but say tebow did agree to change positions and work hard on where ever what ever team wanted him to

a) how many teams would be then willing to give him a go ?

b) what position would suit him best

c) could he legitimately make an impact at said position

i hear the talk a fair bit that he should change positions but i just don't see it, but my knowledge is obviously alot less then others such as yourself

Hypothetically Tebow would probably best fit as a hybrid FB/TE and occasional wildcat QB. The Patriots would be the most obvious fit, and he even has chemistry throwing to Hernandez already. I do think Tebow could make a solid impact doing that, but he'll need time to work on blocking and footwork as a receiver.

Hey, any insight as to what the Bears like about Bostic over Arthur Brown?

Ice, you don't think Quinton Patton will make the team?

I think he'll make it, mis-worded that, sorry. I'll say this though--if he doesn't splash quickly he never will.

No clue at all. Horrible decision, and I say that as someone who actually liked Bostic more than most. Brown was a top 25 talent, Bostic a marginal top 75 player. Teams got too worried about his shoulder and his size. Brown is bigger than Lavonte David or Bobby Wagner and those two combined for almost 300 tackles as rookies last year. Bostic is probably more of a natural MLB than Brown, maybe that's why Emery chose him. Bostic isn't a terrible pick, it's just that they could have had Arthur Brown.

Is that because he's supposed to be NFL ready, or doesn't have elite size/speed, or some other reason? I really like the kid (I think he'll be ahead of AJ Jenkins on the depth chart come week one) so I'm trying to get a better handle on him as a prospect. I see a little bit of Stevie Johnson in him.

The reason Patton fell is something I highlighted in a piece here: he's not going to be comfortable not being The Man. People have run with that and taken it to make him out like Titus Young and that's not accurate, but he had that issue too. You know the time where Titus Young said he was just as good as Calvin Johnson? That is something Patton would say, but he's not going to deliberately sabotage plays or take plays off or start fights with teammates, not that much of a loose cannon.

Patton is an incredibly self-confident person with an exaggerated sense of his own ability. It can be very hard for those types of guys to handle going from being The Man to being one of many, or a second banana to Crabtree as the case is here. Santonio Holmes was like that and he wound up being a pretty darn good player, so it's not like a fatal flaw. But getting those kind of guys to taste success immediately is critical, or else they become Jon Baldwin or Arrellious Benn, two other guys that have that personality quirk. I know some teams had very serious concerns about his mindset.

He also fell a little because he's not real fast or real quick. It scares teams a little when a guy doesn't have a great strength in one or the other. Having said that, I watched a whole lot of Patton the last two years and he got open against anyone and everyone at all three levels of the defense.

Jeff,

Looking towards next year, who would you compare Teddy Bridgewater too? Also, Gus Bradley has said he wants a QB who can use his legs and I can imagine Gus will eventually will want to implement some pistol and read options with his QB. Do you think Teddy has the ability to execute this offense like a RG3 or Wilson?

I like Teddy a lot. Here's what I wrote about a month ago:
Teddy Bridgewater, QB, Louisville: I have notes from the Rutgers, Florida, and UConn games last year and thus far I’m intrigued but not as overwhelmed as so many seem to be. Lots of what I’ve seen and read makes him into some sort of can’t-miss supernova, but there is a lot to work on with Bridgewater’s game. Fortunately for Teddy, he has a whole lot of ability to work with. Two things really stand out: his improvisational ability and his touch on deeper throws. Both of them are absolutely top shelf. If he can iron out some ball placement issues while he’s in the pocket and gain a better feel for linebackers in coverage, he’s got a chance to be a special NFL quarterback. He gets bonus points for toughness, playing through a broken wrist in the UConn game and the following week at Rutgers, where he rotated in and out and played well against a defense with 5 players who got drafted last weekend.

from http://www.detroitlionsdraft.com/2013/0 ... prospects/

He's more of a conventional QB that can run, not as dynamic of a runner as RG3 or Kaepernick. I get more of a Steve Young kind of vibe in watching him, kinda like Andrew Luck too. He's certainly got the ability to run some read-option looks & he's worked out of the pistol too. Either him or Clowney will be the #1 pick barring freak injury or someone like Tajh Boyd or Marqise Lee get loads of buzz. And the Jaguars figure to be picking top 5 again.

Iceness,

Will next year's crop of Rbs be better than this years? Any particular names we should watch out for?

The underclassmen are decent. Lache Seastrunk from Baylor is my personal fave, explosive and quick but also powerful. Deanthony Thomas can flat out fly but I want to see more than just that. The incoming seniors don't seem very great. I like Dri Archer as a mini mite, Sproles kind of guy. Damien Williams is a small power back with iffy vision. Charles Sims could put up big numbers at West Virginia, liked him a lot at Houston.

At this point I would mock Seastrunk, Thomas, and maybe James Wilder Jr in the first round. Kadeem Carey on the fringe too. So much depends on health with RBs though.

I'd pay attention to the WI RB's - James White looks like Ronnie Hillman minus the fumbling problem, but Melvin Gordon is a red-shirt sophomore and could actually declare. If Gordon played for Alabama and was getting more than 10 carries / game, he'd be a first round pick. I'd imagine he'll test out well at the combine as well.

We've had so many good RB's over the last few years that in order to get him the ball last year, they had him lined up in the slot or even all the way wide and ran these goofy end arounds like 5 times / game last year specifically to get him the football.

This was my favorite run of his last year - not even a TD!:

I'm gonna watch the ASU game Monday or Tuesday. White has some wiggle. Haven't looked at Gordon in terms of pro capacity yet.

White does - wish they threw the ball more to their RB's, would think that would be a perfect scenario for him.

All of Gordons big plays have come from that "Jet" formation - same with his 80 yard TD run against AZ st. It seems to me that anytime he gets into space - he's just gone. Has that extra gear everyone's looking for in a RB, along with great size (6'1, 205). Averaged 10 yards / carry last year on 62 carries, currently averaging almost 13.......

Would love to hear what you think about Gordon and if I'm just a homer :)

Can anyone tell me why Johnny Manziel is not a first round talent? I want to know from a football stand point and nothing about his "immaturity".

Strictly talking football, which is the best way to approach:
--he's short. This is a cheesy way to go about it, but last year my son's school had a lifesize Johnny Manziel growth chart in the gym. It topped out at just under 6 feet. Obviously that's an unreliable measuring stick but I've been to aTm practices and there's no way he's any taller than 6 feet and a quarter inch. I have no doubt he's shorter than Rex Grossman. He's got a small frame too, like Vick.

--his field vision is still a work in development. I slammed him repeatedly on this last year. It has definitely improved, no question about it. It's still not reliable. Don't mistake his creativity for seeing the field well. In the NFL he is going to need to see the backside safety rolling too hard to the slot and hit the Y on the post from the pocket. Right now he still never sees that kind of play. Aside from being inefficient, that drives wide receivers insane.

--he needs to develop more patience. Again, it's improved, but again, it needs to improve a lot more.

The arm strength is great. The touch on the ball is outstanding. He is an anticipatory thrower, which I like, instead of a reactionary thrower. His mobility is obviously outstanding, though he needs to be smarter about picking his spots.

Thank you for your insight. I have only watched a couple of games and as a Vikings fan, just thinking about possible quarterbacks for next year. Could you do a Mariota vs Hundley comparison?

My guy Darren Page is working on a Hundley piece right now for DetroitLionsDraft. We've been kinda cautious with both those guys because they are underclassmen and nobody really knows their intentions. Not like with Manziel, who will declare for the draft the nanosecond he's eligible.

My early take on Mariota, and I have not seen them other than the Washington and Tennessee games this year plus almost every game last year:
-can really rip the ball even on the run
-locks onto his primary read 95% of the time
-looks uncomfortable being stationary
-runs like a gazelle being chased by lame lions
-needs to learn to progress thru his reads without getting happy feet
-struggles when he has to throw a guy open
-shows progress from game to game, doesn't get fooled by the same thing twice
I think he's got RG3-like skills but is not as polished as a passer, and he's not going to be for at least a couple of years. Exciting talent. I've heard he's quite bright like RG3 too, which helps ensure he'll improve quickly.

Hundley strikes me as a guy who is going to be as good as the talent around him. What i mean by that is, put him in Green Bay with all the weapons Aaron Rodgers has (when they're healthy) and I believe Hundley can be a Pro Bowler and win playoff games. But put him in New England with their abject crap at WR/TE outside of Gronk, and I'm not sure Hundley gets them to 6 wins. I need to see more of him. He's got that longer delivery and he's a long strider into his throws and that has to get ironed out.

Mariota has a lot of talent, and he could end up being a top QB. He needs a lot of work though, which is why I'm on the Bridgewater bandwagon (see sig).

Hundley scares me. He's got better instincts than Blaine Gabbert, but I see a lot of Blaine in him.

I have only seen one game of Hundley and it was against Stanford- he did not impress. The one thing I like about Manziel is that he always makes plays against the best defenses in college football.
