Jeff,

Another Dolphins question. Philbin and his staff are going to revamp our o-line and bring in some athletic lineman for their zone-blocking schemes of the WCO. Who are some guys that you think the Dolphins will be looking at in the mid-late rounds of the draft? or do you think they go after one early?

Thanks!

Pittsburgh's pick in the 1st. Doubt he falls beyond Chicago though.

Good question. Marcus Zucevics jumps out as a tackle in the 4th-5th. Donald Stephenson from Oklahoma is raw but moves real well. Maybe Matt McCants if he can prove he can squat more than 500 pounds, which he has not thus far. That's the tackles.

Inside is where I like the Dolphins to attack in the draft. Rishaw Johnson from Cal PA has got some serious character issues and looked terrible during Senior Bowl week but he has so much potential physically. Joe Looney from Wake fits nicely but he's coming off a foot injury. Ryan Miller from Colorado is a guy I liked a lot heading into last year but he played poorly in '11, he fits at RG. Bryce Harris from Fresno is a former hoopster that plays well in space, can play guard or RT. Jaymes Brooks from VT blanked Andre Branch at tackle but he's a 6th-7th round guard in the NFL.

I love David Molk at center with one of the 3rd round picks. Going deep, Grant Garner from Okie State is a try-hard zone guy that can also long snap.

That would be a dream scenario. I don't necessarily like any of the DE's projected to be their at 19 - I hate the OL even more - and I think we're probably best served waiting until the 2nd/3rd to grab a WR (even though I love K Wright). A DT would be nice - but I think I'd much rather grab the MLB that will eventually replace Urlacher and man the spot for the next decade.

Any concerns with Luke playing the SLB in the cover 2?

I love the idea of Kuechly playing SLB for a year or two and then sliding inside when 54 finally hangs 'em up. He absolutely can do it. Perfect for the Bears because the two biggest weaknesses in his game are blitzing and making tackles outside the numbers, and the Bears don't ask their backers to do either of those.

Jeff, I am seeing a ton of mocks in the past week and most have the Panthers selecting Fletcher Cox at #9 now. Like over 80% of them. Which makes me think someone in Charlotte has put out a word. I am curious as to your thoughts. Do you think this is something that "slipped" out, is just an intentional "smokescreen" put out by Carolina, or simply all these people doing mocks just coming to the conclusion that Cox fits the Panther's needs better than anyone else available?

I apologize if this was addressed several pages ago. I may have missed it. I was looking to see what my Panthers might do in the 2nd and looking for a steal. Someone who may fall to us at #42. Depending upon what happens at #9, I thought Chandler Jones, the DE out of Syracuse, might be someone we look at as an option. In most mocks, I see him going in the last 1/3 of the 1st round or very early 2nd. Unless I missed him, I did not see him anywhere in your 3 round Mock. Was this just an oversight, or is there something about his ability which just leads you to believe he does not have the right stuff to be a pick in the first 3 rounds.

There is fire to that smoke and I believe it. He might not even last that long however. I still believe they are in the market to move up and get Claiborne, just my personal thought though.

He is very underdeveloped considering all the praise he's getting. He got sacks in exactly 5 of his final 23 college games. Tremendous athlete, not so tremendous production. For as much crap as Dontari Poe takes for not producing to the level of his athleticism, he did more more often than Cox did.

Jaye Howard from Florida had almost identical stats to Cox, better if you look just at SEC games, and he's no athletic slouch. Howard ran the 40 faster with a better 10-yard split, had a better vertical leap and broad jump, quicker short shuttle. Howard will be lucky to go in the 3rd round, and Cox is somehow a top 10 pick. HUGE bust potential with Cox. If I'm Marty Hurney I look elsewhere in the 1st and hope that Howard falls to me in the 4th.

I have a 5th round grade on Chandler Jones and I honestly have no idea how anyone who has watched more than two Syracuse gamse can have any higher than that. Top-heavy long strider with average burst, no lateral quickness at all (his short shuttle was terrible), lacks functional power (he's weight room cut, not football strong). Considering his brother has underacheived in the NFL despite being pretty athletic for his position, I don't see any way you take Chandler Jones before the late 3rd. I'm not going to say he doesn't have potential to get a lot better and I do like his length and closing burst, but tall guys that play tall off the snap scare the hell out of me. See: Derrick Harvey, Jarvis Moss, Austen Lane, Michael Johnson, Manny Lawson.

Having said that, he'll be a top 45 pick next week and will be in the next mock.

Thank you for your insight and thoughts on Cox and Jones. Would love to see Carolina snag Claiborne, but it will be costly to get him. Hate giving up that 2nd.

What about next year's 1st? If you make the playoffs, and I think CAR will win the NFC South, pick is in the 20s and Claiborne is an instant #1 cover man, is that worth it? :dontknow:

I like that if that's all it takes. We've given up more for less in the past (Armanti, Otah, E-Brown).

Even though I think if Hurney makes a move, he'll trade up for another first-round pick. Unless he thinks someone will fall (and I can't see him taking Jenkins even though I'd like that risk), he's gutsy enough to overpay for what he wants. Then again, I wouldn't put it past him to trade up from #9 and trade for another first-round pick.

Here's a question for you. If there is a Matt Flynn-type player in this draft (late-round QB that will be a starter in the next five years), who do you think it will be?

Swapping 2012 1sts and then giving up 2013 1st rather than this year's 2nd. Would strongly consider it for Claiborne. Yes.

Two of 'em: GJ Kinne from Tulsa and Chandler Harnish from NIU. I think both can be quality #2 QBs that can start a game or two if pressed...which is all Flynn really is.

hey jeff what do you think about broncos RB situation?

they have mcgahee, and moreno is coming back from knee injury (can he be relied on?)

do you think they draft one or sign a stop gap type player like benson?

I'd be interested to know how NFL teams evaluate the standard pick value chart based upon years in the past versus now as the salary proportions have changed. I have always thought that every pick value chart that I have ever seen was severely logically flawed, but now that the numbers are unique in the present time versus any previous time my question is... Have you seen any team create a pick value chart or indicate anything similar to that in any regard? I'd like to see how they evaluate what picks are worth today compared to any other reference point in time. I'll take whatever info or perspective I can get from insiders in the business.

I think they'll draft one on Saturday, most likely a speed guy that can catch. They won't pay for anything other than a 3rd stringer veteran.

I'm kinda surprised Benson hasn't found work yet, but then again the RB market is so oersaturated and now teams will just wait til they see what they get in the draft.

Good question. I haven't seen a new value chart but I know some teams stick to the antiquated one a lot more rigidly than others do. Certain teams will be willing to sacrifice "points" if they think the player value is worth it, i.e. if the #7 player on their board is still there at #13, they'll give up what it cost to get to #7 instead of #13 if need be. They'll be more willing to pay more in a thin draft too, like when the Panthers went and got Jeff Otah.

I suspect many teams have their own new value charts with the top picks worth comparatively less and with more value given to picks 10-40. I'm sure someone will come out with a new universal chart, and I'm sure I will agree with you that it's flawed.

Husker's CB Dennard gets arrested for Assault on a Police Officer, less than a week before the NFL Draft. KInda thought he was at best a late 2nd but more likely a 3rd round pick. Wonder what this will do to his stock and draft status? Think the last play he had was where he and Alshon Jefferies go into it at the Bowl game and they both were ejected. Young man has been doing more fighting than playing the last few months.
