My weigh-in notes from http://www.detroitlionsdraft.com/?p=2508

Tennessee DT Dan McCullers was listed at 6’8” and 351 on the school’s official site. He measured in at 6’6.7” and 348, a good inch and a half shorter than expected. He’s still quite tall but not as imposing as advertised.

Oklahoma WR Jalen Saunders was known to be undersized coming here, but he measured in at 5’8” and 164 pounds. Worse, his arm length was a measly 28 7/8 inches and just 8 ¾ inch hands. Anything lower than 30 inches for arm length and 9 inches for hand size is a problem for wide receivers.

Arizona State DT Will Sutton, who played in 2012 at about 275, has added a great deal of weight. Sutton waddled in at 315 pounds at a hair over 6’, and it was not good weight. His arm length is also a problem at just 30 5/8 inches. By way of comparison, that’s the same length as Florida’s 5’9” wideout Jaylen Watkins.

Nebraska CB Stanley Jean-Baptiste is very long at 6’2”. His arms are long at 32 3/8”, very impressive for a corner. Then there are his hands: 8 ½”. It looks like someone cut his hands off and sewed on replacements taken from a dwarf. One of the odder things I’ve seen outside of a circus tent.

Florida State LB Telvin Smith looks real good, but he weighed just 218 pounds. His narrow frame appears maxed out too. Hard to invest in a linebacker that gives up 40+ pounds to most tight ends.

Washington State safety Deone Bucannon wins the best body competition. Wow. A little under 6’1”, 215 pounds and it’s rock-hard muscle all over. He plays like a freight train and it’s easy to see why.

Miami tackle Seantrel Henderson was an impressive 6’6.5” and 331 pounds. His 84” wingspan is outstanding for an offensive tackle. He’s one player who could really make himself a lot of money this week. At Miami he was wildly inconsistent; if he plays well all week he could really move up.

Saginaw Valley State WR Jeff Janis came in shorter than expected at 6’2”, which is an issue for someone most expected to be at least 6’3”. He is well-built and looks like a fully grown Ken doll. Not sure if that will help him get open, however…

Fresno State tight end Marcel Jensen was another winner in the underwear Olympics. Very physically impressive 6’5”, 264 pounder with 34 ¼” arms and a great 83” wingspan.

Louisiana Tech DT Justin Ellis weighted 352 last week at Shrine Game practices. He tipped the scales at 342 this morning. Good for him. He told me last week he hopes to be under 335 by the Combine and he’s well on his way.

Pittsburgh DT Aaron Donald and Princeton DT Caraun Reid are both a lot bulkier in person than their measurements might indicate. Donald is just 288 pounds but looks like he needs to turn sideways to get through doors, incredibly wide (but not fat) through the shoulders and chest. Reid is the same way at 301 pounds.

Florida State center Bryan Stork does not believe in manscaping. He sported ample chest hair that would make Tom Selleck proud. He looked a lot better than Utah State center Tyler Larsen, who was a sloppy 317 pounds with a short (74”) wingspan. We’ll see how that translates on the field.

how do they decide which coaching staffs coach in the senior bowl? i imagine there are scouts from each team monitoring practices and the game but is there an advantage to actually having the staff there in the action?

The two teams drafting highest with holdover coaching staffs get to choose if they want it or not. JAX and ATL both accepted this year.

Tajh Boyd sucks, completely undraftable. Thought that coming here, completely validated by his performance today.

Liked Kyle Van Noy a lot

Nevin Lawson standing out

Pierre Desir>>Stanley Jean-Baptiste

Bad week for Gabe Ikard but my man Weston Richburg playing like a 2nd round pick.

He was good. Very rangy, moves quite well. Looked very comfortable running down plays and anticipating in coverage. Good 4th-5th round talent, might have squeaked into the top 100.

Do you think Telvin Smith could possibly transition to safety?

That was a hot topic in Mobile. The problem is that he's at his best going forward, not sure you want to take away from that. He's only 219 though & moves well enough. Not sure any team would take the time to do the transition right too, make him sit a year and learn.

I think he could easily be a heavy nickel backer, put him on bigger slot guys or tight ends. He can blitz too.
