Mock Draft Challenge!

Post#1 » by gswhoops » Wed Apr 11, 2007 5:10 am

Alright, so here's how it works:

Post your mock draft here, first round only (picks 1-32). Each spot your draft is off from the real draft scores you one point (for example: say you had the Raiders drafting JaMarcus Russell #1 and he ends up being drafted by Cleveland #3, that would mean 2 points are added to your draft). The draft with the fewest # of points wins.

You can make changes to your mock UP TO ONE HOUR BEFORE the beginning of the draft. Any mocks that are edited after this time will be DQed.

If any Mod wants to help with this it would be greatly appreciated.

Okay here we go

1. Raiders- WR Calvin Johnson Georgia Tech

Much hype and talk about Jamarcus Russell here and I have fallen into that talk in many of my mock drafts. Doing some thinking. Moss is a problem. Moss doesnt want to play for the Raiders. Moss didnt arrive at camp. Kiffin calls Johnson "perfect". Moss can kill a new coach and Moss wants to be close to his family. Russell doesnt even fit the West Coast system of Kiffin. Johnson is my pick here for the Raider nation.

2. Detroit Lions- QB Jemarcus Russell LSU

I think Millen will grab Russell and have him learn from Kitna. Should be a nice fit for Russell who wont be thrown to the wolves right away.

3. Cleveland Browns- QB Brady Quinn Notre Dame

Crennell and Weiss are tight so I dont see any reason why this pick would be something else.

4. Tampa Bay Bucs- DE Gaines Adams Clemson

I think once Johnson is off the board they have to go with the next best defender left. Thomas is an option but they just signed Petitgout and have many young lineman already in the fold.

5. Arizona Cards- OT Joe Thomas Wisconsin

This pic is pretty much a no brainer.

6. Denver Broncos(trade with Skins)- DT Amobi Okoye Louisville

They hit a homer with Dumervil from Louisville last year so they decide to pull off a deal with the Skins who have no draft picks. Broncos deal there 21st, there 2nd round pick, one of there two 3rd round picks.

7. Minnesota Vikings- RB Adrian Peterson Oklahoma

They will not pass on this type of talent even with Taylor in the fold. Not really many needs to they can go with BPA.

8. Atlanta Falcons- FS Laron Landry LSU

Here is the player they so desperately need in there secondary.

9. Miami Dolphins- DT Alan Branch Michigan

They have forever young Keith Traylor currently playing the Nose but at 38 how much does he have left in the tank. They have a gapping hole at Left tackle but could address that problem later since I think they arent very high on Levi Brown. Branch is the big body they need to free all those linebackers up.

10. Houston Texans- OT Levi Brown Penn State

The need is so glaing for the Texans I cant imagine any other pick especially with no 2nd rounder.

11. San Francisco 49ers- MLB Patrick Willis Ole. Miss

Leader for there defense.

12. Buffalo Bills- CB Leon Hall Michigan

The loss of Clements leaves a wide open hole at corner that needs to be filled.

13. St. Louis Rams- DE Jammal Anderson Arkansas

Need some depth with the aging Little and loss of Hargrove.

14. Carolina Panthers- TE Greg Olsen UM

The best TE in this draft to open up the field for Steve Smith.

15. Pittsburgh Steelers- DE/OLB Jarvis Moss Florida

Could either play the 4-3 or play outside in the 3-4.

16. Green Bay Packers- RB Marshawn Lynch Cal

Would be a real nice fit here for the Packers since they have no RB's.

17. Jacksonville Jaguars- S Reggie Nelson Florida

Easy pick to fill the void left by Grant.

18. Cincy Bengals- CB Chris Houston Arkansas

Easy pick with the Bengals needing some serious secondary help.

19. Tennesse Titans- WR Dwayne Jarrett USC

The reason why I pick him here is because of the USC ties but not only that the team is lacking a big physical wideout. With burners in Jones,Roby, and Williams a pick of Meacham would be too repetetive. Jarret not only gives Young a big redzone target but also provides a solid blocker for when Young decides to take off.

20. New York Giants- OT Joe Staley Central Michigan

Giants last drafted Luke Petitgout in the 1st and now that he is gone they draft his replacement in the 1st.

21. Washington Redskins(via Broncos) DE Adam Carriker Nebraska

Skins trade down get some pics and still come out with a quality defensive lineman.

22. Dallas Cowboys- WR Ted Ginn Jr. Ohio State

Lighting in a bottle with Ginn. Glenn can also groom his fellow buckeye bretheran.

23. Kanas City Cheifs- WR Dwayne Bowe LSU

Worst set of wideout in the game finally get an upgrade.

24. New England Patriots- OLB Paul Posluzny Penn State

Heady player to possibly take the place of Bruschi or Vrabel sometime soon.

25. New York Jets- CB Darrelle Revis Pitt.

Big physical corner the team is seeking.

26. Philadelphia Eagles- S Michael Griffin Texas

Player to fill the void left by Lewis and possible one day replacement for Dawkins.

27. New Orleans Saints- WR Robert Meacham Tennessee

With the loss of Horn somebody needs to take his place along side Colston. Absolute steam and another weapon for Payton.

28. New England Patriots- S/CB Brandon Meriweather Miami

Versatile player can either play safety or corner.

29. Baltimore Ravens- OT Tony Ugoh Arkansas

Need to find a player to groom behind Ogden.

30. San Diego Chargers- WR Anthony Gonzalez Ohio State

With the ever aging Keenan and the rest of the pack mediore are best Tony G would be a decent fit here.

31. Chicago Bears- OLB Jon Beason Miami

If Briggs wants to leave well here goes his replacement.

32. Indianapolis Colts- OLB Lawrence Timmons FSU

Need to replace the loss of June.

33. Oakland Raiders- QB Drew Stanton Michigan State

Raiders missed out on the top QB's but Stanton is built for Kiffin's system.

34. Gotta run will finish soon.

I'll probably have to edit a few more times but here it is...

#1 - Raiders - JaMarcus Russell - As of right now i would say Russell... if Moss gets traded i would go Calvin.

#2 - Lions - Gaines Adams - They brought in Dewayne White to replace James Hall however they still need someone on the opposite side since Cory Redding will be moving inside to tackle fulltime.

#3 - Browns - Adrian Peterson - Granted Jamal Lewis was just brought in as a free agent but he only signed a one-year deal and is on the downside of his career so at minimum a top backup is needed.

#4 - Bucs - Calvin Johnson - Gotta take the best player avaliable here.

#5 - Cards - Joe Thomas - Oliver Ross has been a huge disappointment and Leonard Davis just signed with the Boys.

#6 - Skins - Adam Carriker - They just could not seem to get much of a pass rush last year so they need to bring in a speed guy who is able to apply some real pressure off the edge pretty soon.

#7 - Vikes - Brady Quinn - There has been alot of talk that they would take Brady Quinn if he was avaliable at this pick.

#8 - Falcons - Laron Landry - Lawyer Milloy is no spring chicken, Chris Crocker is more of a journeyman.

#9 - Dolphins - Amobi Okoye - Jason Taylor is still one of the very best in the business but he's not getting any younger, nor are Vonnie Holliday and Keith Traylor inside, while Matt Roth is unproven.

#10 - Texans - Levi Brown - Ever since they chose Tony Boselli with the first pick in the expansion draft they have been looking for a premier left tackle but to this point they still don't have one.

#11 - 49er's - Alan Branch - A big space eater in the middle is critical to any successful 3-4 defense and at this point the Niners just don't have anything closely resembling a premier nose tackle.

#12 - Bills - Pat Willis - Their group didn't play real well last year and that was before they jettisoned both London Fletcher and Takeo Spikes so calling this a need may be a understatement.

#13 - Rams - Darrelle Revis - Outside of last years #1 pick Tye Hill they do not have a true starter at cornerback and at safety there are a bunch of solid guys but certainly not any real standouts.

#14 - Panthers - Greg Olsen - The Panthers has not had a top pass catching option at the tight end position since the days of Wesley Walls in the 1990's.

#15 - Steelers - Leon Hall - Ike Taylor's play dropped off after he signed a new contract and he was eventually benched so they might potentially need to bring in some quality insurance at corner.

#16 - Packers - Marshawn Lynch - With the loss of Ahmad Green this is a no brainer.

#17 - Jags - Reggie Nelson - They lost Deon Grant as a free agent and Donovin Darius just can't seem to stay healthy the past couple years so it's imperative that they bring in another elite talent here.

#18 - Cinci - Jon Beason - Despite investing a number of draft picks here in recent years the position is still a problem after essentially losing Odell Thurman, Brian Simmons & maybe David Pollack.

#19 - Titans - Ted Ginn Jr. - Gotta pair up Vince and Ted, incredible arm vs. incredible speed.... could be a dynamic duo.

#20 - Giants - Lawrence Timmons - In a single day they cut both of their starters outside and while they do have some potential replacements in place it's still unknown how effective they will ultimately be.

#21 - Broncos - Jamaal Anderson - It is clear that this position is a priority for the team after targeting, aggressively pursuing and ultimately losing out on both John Abraham and Patrick Kerney recently.

#22 - Boys - Joe Staley - Even though Marc Colombo was able to exceed everyone's expectations last year and was retained Flozell Adams is getting old and will need to be replaced soon.

#23 - Chiefs - Robert Meachem - Even though they've always seemed to get by without a true #1 wideout those days are quickly nearing an end.

#24 - Pats - Chris Houston - With the apparent lost of Asante Samuel, picking a CB with this pick would make sense.

#25 - Jets - Aaron Ross - Andre Dyson is okay and he can handle one of the starting spots but Hank Poteat is not a guy that you want at the top of your depth chart and Justin Miller fell out of favor.

#26 - Eagles - Brandon Meriweather - Michael Lewis was a big disappointment who was allowed to leave as a free agent so safety is a major need.

#27 - Saints - Paul Posluszny - Despite investing numerous valuable draft picks on this position it's still a big problem area and needs to be addressed.

#28 - Pats - Michael Griffin - No one does a better job of finding lightly regarded corners than the Pats but they could still use a top talent and Rodney Harrison's about finished at safety as well.

#29 - Ravens - Tony Ugoh - There is a potential hole on one end of the o-line with Tony Pashos fleeing as a free agent and it sure looks as if Jon Ogden will be retiring if not this year then next.

#30 - Chargers - Dwayne Bowe - Vincent Jackson did show some signs of developing into a #1 target last year but Keenan McCardell was released and they need to add some depth and speed.

#31 - Bears - Ben Grubbs - Their starters are relatively solid but they are aging up front and will probably need to begin looking to the future.

#32 - Colts - Justin Harrell - The run defense was atrocious during the regular season and now Montae Reagor is gone, Corey Simon will soon follow and even Darrell Reid is in legal trouble.
