Broncos offer trade with Lions

According to a radio station in Denver and ProFootballTalk the Denver Broncos have offered their first-round, second-round, and third-round pick in the 2007 draft and their first-rounder in 2008 for the Lions first round pick (No. 2 overall).

The Broncos are obviously interested in Calvin Johnson and this trade won't happen if the Raiders select Johnson with the first pick in the draft or trade the pick to the Bucs who would select Johnson.

This would be huge on many fronts. It would shake up a lot of things.

I freaking pray the Lions accept if this is true. Oh god this is a dream. we need all the help we can get, especially since we dont have a player at our pick we desperatly need.

We move down, grab the best Corner or LB available, and keep going with the extra picks.

Please Matt, do this!

id do if im the lions, id probably like to squeeze out another pick from the 2008 draft like a 3rd or 4th, it might sound greedy but they're the ones with the #2 pick.

2nd overall (2600)

for

21st (800)
50th (340)
70th (240) or 86th (160)
1st rounder in 2008 (probably would count about 700)

2080 Total best case

I would think it would take the 2009 1st rounder of the Broncos to make the Lions bite.

The Lions could trade the pick to Denver and use the 21st Overall Pick and their own second round pick to trade up for Patrick Willis. They would still have a second round pick (Denver's), two third round picks (their own and Washington's via Denver), and two first round draft picks in 2008 .

Oh my God, would this EVER be fun to watch.

Lest we forget, this is the same Lions team with 5 5th-rounders and a need at every conceivable position except for MAYBE K and P.

I'm honestly a little surprised that the Lions would accept this because, as bigboy pointed out, even without face value this looks like a bargain for a 2nd overall pick.

I imagine Tampa and maybe Atlanta would come up with better offers to Detroit.

This is also completely contingent on the Raiders taking Russell, which who knows at this point.

But in this case, IMO, it's still the Lions coming out on top. I've realized the point system is heavily flawed in the early rounds, and that recent history shows the team that's trading down almost always wins, and that despite what people say, talent is well spread out in the first round, and it IS nearly a crapshoot to see whether the pick pans out.

vikings could be very interested, and have the 7th pick.

Lions would be stupid to accept that, you have to figure the Broncos first round pick next year with Calvin Johnson will be in the late 20's, and they aren't getting enough value as is.

Calvin Johnson is way too good to not have nearly every team knocking down doors to get him. The Broncos at #21 don't have enough to offer compared to Tampa, etc.

I've heard that rumor. I can also verify the rumor floating around that San Francisco has offered #11, #42, and #97, got that straight from a high-up at PFW. I've heard talk about ATL but I haven't heard anything concrete, just speculation about #8 and #44 plus something else.

Millen wants all the picks this draft, not in the future, so I really don't see him taking the Denver package unless he's desperate, and from what I hear he's not that desperate. Actually the Lions beatie from the GR paper told me he thinks Millen wouldn't mind keeping Johnson.

On a related subject, if Johnson goes #2 (he will) and it's not to TB, then Tampa is desperate to trade down, with the likely suitor being Houston so they can get Adrian Peterson.

Vernon and CJ together would be a force. Throw in Gore's rushing and Smith's passing/mobility, and that would be a great offense.

I'm sure if the Lions agree to do that trade with the Broncos and Al finds out before the Raiders pick,he'll take Johnson, just to screw the Broncos.

So are you insinuating that the Lions will take Johnson if no one will trade or that they are for sure trading the pick?

Houston is looking to trade down, not up. They won't give up any more draft picks, either.

The rumor floating down here is that the Broncos are offering the 21st and a second to move up to 10 to grab Willis.
