Limas Sweed done for the season

Post#1 » by Wizards2Lottery » Tue Oct 9, 2007 8:56 pm

Hes out for the year and his career at Texas is likely over. How much does this affect his draft status. I'd love the Skins to pick him up in the 2nd round if hes available. Going by todays record the Skins will be picking in the 20's of the first round.

If Sweed declares, does he stay available till late 2nd round?

No. Sweed is probably better than Dwayne Jarrett who went in the middle of the second round, and GMs love to reach for offensive players (see Henry, Chris).

That sucks for him, but I don't see him lasting beyond pick 40.

I think he always was a 2nd rounder, questionable speed. The injury may move him down in the second or even into the 3rd but probably wont drastically change his draft status. Wish him a full recovery.

He could be back by the time for workouts and the combine. Where he's drafted depends on who declares and how well he performs during his workouts.

If Earl Bennett, DeSean Jackson and Malcolm Kelly declare then he's looking at the 2nd round I think.

Surprisingly I haven't seen Sweed's stock falling much if at all. Everyone knows what he can do when he's healthy and his injury is not one that will linger. He's still in the top grouping of WRs with Bowman and Doucet. Some would have Jackson in that grouping if he declares but not me (IMO he's Ted Ginn Jr. Jr. with a poorer attitude), though I would put Malcolm Kelly in there. I think Sweed is still going in the 12-25 range, though its tough to anticipate how the glut of guys in the next group weighs down the ceiling for the top group WRs. There's as many as 23 potential 1st day WRs that I can rationalize, and usually when the market is so saturated and nobody really stands out, the stock for all of them falls--no need to reach or gamble on one guy when you know you can get a player of very close talent one round later.

BTW< Sweed is a senior. He was at the senior day in a sling, and there is some rumor that he might be available for a bowl game
