Trevor Laws

Post#1 » by GYBE » Sun Nov 11, 2007 4:10 pm

In the nightmare season that is 2007, only one player has played well. Trevor Laws is a 5th-year senior who can play either DE or DT. He played DT for his first few years before moving to a 3-4 end this season. He's a little small (6'1), but has an amazing motor and is averaging almost 10 tackles a game from the DE position. No other defensive lineman is even close in tackles.

10 games. 98 tackles, 6 TFL, 2 sacks, 2 fumbles recovered, 2 blocked kicks

Does he have much of a chance of being drafted?

What's his size and frame, and his general game?

From what you're saying, he sounds like a 3-4 OLB

He'd have to definitely lose some weight to play LB, and I don't think he has the quickness to rush the QB from that far back. He's almost 300 pounds.

Does his small height take away much chance of him being a lineman? I think he has linebacker-like instincts in terms of reading plays (reason for his absurdly high tackle rate for a DL), but his body is just too big.

6'1" is even a bit short to be a LB, nonetheless a D-Linemen.
He'd probably have to drop down around 270-280 pounds to even have a chance of playing LB.
And even then, he'd probably be a specialty LB, like a designated rushing LB.

Just my opinion though...
Can't get a good feel of where he'd play and what type of role he'd play without actually seeing him play.

Being a Trevor Laws watcher, I'm going to say this about his height: Trevor Laws has the amazing ability to jump. He blocks field goals and deflects passes at the line. With his lower center of gravity, he'd supply a good push into the pocket, getting his hands in the QB's face, and really bothering people. I don't think he needs to drop to go LB, because he's not too small to be a pass-rusher. His first step off the snap is really good and quick. Personally, he'd do just well in the Colts defense as either end. I'd draft him, for sure. Good backup for Freeney and Mathis. Any defense built for speed, actually.

He's not moving to LB, I'm not sure why anyone would think that. He's 296 lbs, he's a DT/DE.

What round do you think he'd go in?

3rd or 4th is my guess.

I think he'll be a DT in the NFL.
